Today you will be collected from your accommodation by our air-conditioned, purpose built 4WD vehicle. Travel north along The Great Barrier Reef Drive from Cairns to Cape Tribulation along spectacular coastline hugging two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest. This spectacular wet tropical rainforest is the oldest continuously growing rainforest in the world and renowned for its amazing diversity of plant and animal life.
Enjoy the rainforest’s magic of at the Heritage Lodge, where you will indulge on tasty homemade scones with jam and cream and sip on the fresh local Daintree Tea or coffee. Continue on crossing rivers and climbing mountain ranges on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track. Your experienced guide will enlighten you with incredible stories and history as your journey takes you through some of the most incredible scenery in the country.
Your next stop will be the Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal, via the Bobby and Jacky Ball Bloomfield River Bridge, which was completed in late 2014. You will have the opportunity to visit the Bana Yirriji Art and Cultural Centre.
Continuing north, we stop for lunch at Bloom’s Cafe before a visit to one of Queensland’s landmark pubs. Built in 1875 of timber and iron, The infamous Lion’s Den Hotel includes a museum, where they have on display a collection of unique prospector artefacts. See the unique geological oddity known as Black Mountain. Surrounded in mystery and spoken of by ancient Aboriginal legends, stop to observe this facsinating site before arriving in Cooktown.
Visit the top of Grassy Hill, where you will enjoy a panoramic vista of the Endeavour River, surrounding Coral Sea and Cooktown. Have your camera ready because the views are spectacular! Take a stroll down the main street or visit the world class James Cook Museum. (Museum closed during off season Dec-Apr)
Your return journey along the Mulligan Highway offers diverse landscapes through cattle stations and the Palmer River goldfields region, rich in history of the gold rush era. An evening meal break will be taken along the way (not included). At the completion of your one day 4WD Cooktown tour and adventure you will be transferred to your accommodation in Port Douglas, Northern Beaches or Cairns.
