Day 1 : Arrive Paro & Sightseeing | Altitude: 2280 m.
Meet and Greet at the airport and drive to the Hotel. In the afternoon, visit to:
Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower which now houses the National Museum of Bhutan. Rinpung Dzong built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. This fort serves as the center of civil and religious authority in Paro valley. In the evening, visit a typical Bhutanese farm house. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 2 : Paro – Hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery | 7 Km | Hike: 4 hours.
Morning – Hike to the spectacular Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang). Afternoon, visit to:
Drugyel Dzong, the defense fortress built in 1647 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Kyichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in Bhutan built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan King Srongtsen Gampo. In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 3 : Paro – Jele Dzong (Start of Druk Path Trek in Bhutan)
Morning – Drive to Damchena and start the Druk Path trek in Bhutan. We start the walk from Damchena to Jele Dzong. It is an uphill walk for 3-4 hours. You can see the great view of Paro valley below. Just above the camp are the Jele La Pass (3400 m) and Jele Dzong. Trek distance 8 km, 3 hours. 1090 m ascent. Dinner and overnight in camp. (Campsite Altitude: 3480 m).
Day 4 : Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha – Druk Path Trek Itinerary | Alt. 3770 m | 10 Km | Hike: 3 – 4 hours.
Start of Druk Path Trek Itinerary – A short climb through the Rhododendron forest with great views of Mt. Jomolhari and other peaks. Walking distance: 10 km, 3 – 4 hours, 310 m ascent, 50 m descent): Dinner and overnight in camp. Campsite Altitude: 3770 m.
Day 5 : Jangchulakha – Jimilangtsho (Druk Path trek Bhutan) | Altitude: 3700 m | 11 Km | Hike: 4 hours.
Today, half of your trek will be up hill and another half will be downhill. After a short descent, we arrive at Jimilangtsho Lake (3,700 m). Distance 11 Km; walking time 4 hours, (330 m ascent, 230 m descent). Dinner and overnight in camp. Campsite at Altitude: 3700 m.
Day 6 : Jimilangtso – Simkota (Druk Path Trek Bhutan) | Altitude: 4110 m | 11 Km | Hike: 4 hours.
The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees past the lake of Janetso. Camp Altitude: 4110 m, 11 km, walking time: 4 hours, (820 m ascent, 400 m descent). Dinner and overnight camp.
Day 7 : Simkota – Phajoding – Thimphu (End of Druk Path Trek Itinerary)
Descend down to Phajoding Monastery from where you can see Thimphu valley below. (End of Bhutan Druk Path Trek Itinerary).
Distance: 15 km, walking time: 6 – 7 hours, (130 m ascent, and 1820 m descent). After lunch, rest in the Hotel. In the evening, explore Thimphu town. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 8 : Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.
Morning sightseeing includes:
National Memorial Chorten (1974) built in honor of the Late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Dupthop Lhakhang, the oldest nunnery in Thimphu valley and one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan. National Library stocked with ancient Buddhist manuscripts. Painting School where traditional art is still kept alive through instructions in the art of painting Thangkas.Afternoon, visit to:
Tallest Statue of Buddha in the world (51.5 m) at Kuensel Phodrang. Witness Archery Match at Changlimithang. In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body. The annual grand Thimphu festival is held here in early Spring. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 9 : Thimphu – Punakha – Thimphu | 76 Km | Drive: 2 hours.
Morning – Drive to Punakha via Dochu La pass (3140 m). A short stop at the pass to view Higher Himalayas. The famous annual Druk Wangyel festival is held here on the 13th December performed by Royal Bhutanese Army. Drive further to Punakha valley. On the way, visit to:
Chimi Lhakhang built in 1499 to honor Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The Divine Madman”. The Temple is also called “the Temple of Fertility”. It is the main highlight for honeymoon in Bhutan. Afternoon -Visit to the magnificent Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The grand Punakha Tshechu festival is held here in the early Spring. In the evening, drive back to Thimphu. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.
Day 10 : Thimphu – Paro (Departure)
After breakfast, drive to the Paro airport and farewell.
