Day 1 : Arusha, Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative. He will introduce you to the group's safari guides as well as our vehicles. Once everyone arrives the group will embark on a drive to Arusha and check in into our rooms.
Day 2 : Arusha - Lake Manyara
Enjoy an early breakfast at the lodge before our pre - safari briefing. Then collect your picnic lunch box as we are on our way to Lake Manyara National Park for our first game viewing. Lake Manyara National Park spreads out across the Great East African Rift Valley, dominating a vast landscape. Often called Tanzania's water due to the large number of birds and animals the lake supports, Lake Manyara NP is also famous for its' tree-climbing lions. Following our wonderful safari we drive to Tented Campsite for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 : Lake Manyara - Serengeti
After a leisurely breakfast we check-out and drive to Serengeti National Park. Arriving by the Naabi gate about noon, we complete our check in procedures and enjoy our picnic lunch boxes. Our game safari begins as we drive towards Tented Camp, set in the midst of an incredible vista of savannah and skies and sheltered in a grove of acacia trees. Ideally situated along the path of the migrating wildebeest between Kenya and Tanzania, the camp is situated at the border of the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. We will find ourselves on one of the best game drives in the area - along the western corridor of the park, taking in Kirawira and the Grumeti River - home to the infamous wildebeest-eating giant crocodiles. There is no better place to take in one of the world's greatest wildlife spectacles.
Day 4 : Serengeti
Today we get to explore the vast Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park with both a morning and afternoon game viewing safari. The Serengeti, a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th world wide wonder, is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest's trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant's gazelle. The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates Tanzania's greatest park. Golden-maned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers. Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River, while a high density of cheetahs prowls the southeastern plains. Almost uniquely, all three African jackal species occur here, alongside the spotted hyena and a host of more elusive small predators, ranging from the insectivorous aardwolf to the beautiful serval cat. Meals and Overnight at Campsite.
Day 5 : Serengeti - Ngorongoro
A leisurely breakfast at the Camp before we depart the Serengeti and drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We stop at Oldupai Gorge for a short but informative lecture, and at the same time we shall have a moment to enjoy our delicious picnic lunch boxes. Then we continue on to Crater Forest Lodge, for our overnight stay arriving before dusk. We will have twilight dinners on the verandas while enjoying astonishing landscape views of the dense forest. Watch wildlife, like elephants, roaming through the forest, hear the lions roar and listen to the magical sounds of the tropical night. It will be an experience you will never forget. The lodge, established on a highland coffee plantation called Kirin Coffee Estate, directly borders Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.
Day 6 : Ngorongoro
After breakfast we collect our picnic lunch boxes and descend into the crater floor for our full day safari, The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (809,440 ha) spans vast expanses of highland plains, savanna, savanna woodlands and forests, from the plains of the Serengeti National Park in the north-west, to the eastern arm of the Great Rift Valley. The area was established in 1959 as a multiple land use area, with wildlife coexisting with semi-nomadic Maasai pastoralists practicing traditional livestock grazing.
It includes the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the world largest caldera, and Olduvai Gorge, a 14km long deep ravine. The property has global importance for biodiversity conservation in view of the presence of globally threatened species such as the black Rhino, the density of wildlife inhabiting the Ngorongoro Crater and surrounding areas throughout the year, and the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra, Thompson and Grants gazelles and other ungulates into the northern plains. In the evening after our full day crater experience, ascend out and return to Lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7 : Ngorongoro - Arusha - Zanzibar
Stone Town : A leisurely breakfast at the Camp dining facilities, soon after drive to Arusha for lunch at a restaurant in town. We then transfer to Arusha airport for our scheduled 1 1/2 hour flight to Zanzibar at 3:00pm. Upon arrival at Zanzibar airport, we will be met and transferred to our hotel in Stone Town, recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the most unique cities in the world, blending Moorish, Middle Eastern, Indian, and African traditions and architectures, it is possible to spend days winding through Stone Town's labyrinthine alleys; shopping; drinking tea; and visiting the city's historic sites. Time to do some exploring before an optional dinner.
Day 8 : Zanzibar
Stone Town Today we discover the history and small shops of Stone Town. Made from Zanzibar's coral stone, this ancient city with its narrow alleys and twisting streets is a trip into the past. Once, the center of the slave trade, Stone Town no longer smells of human flesh but of fragrant spices that have been the island's main export since the slave trade was abolished. There are a number of historically important buildings and beautiful doors in Stone Town. The House of Wonders and The Arab Fort are worth a visit. The market in Stone Town is one of the largest, most vibrant open-air markets anywhere. Here, you can find several varieties of bananas, "elephant garlic" unique to the island, the largest avocados you'll probably ever see. Even if you have no intentions of purchasing food, the spectacle alone is worth a stop.
Day 9 : Zanzibar : Spice Tour
An essential ingredient in a Zanzibari's everyday life is the island's connection to spices and herbs that date back to the 16th century. Apart from being an important commodity on the trade routes, spices are used in traditional dishes, as cures for ailments and even for dyeing traditional ceremonial outfits for weddings and festivals. A spice tour just outside Stone Town is a fantastic way to see the countryside, take in rural Zanzibar and connect with its people. Our spice tour is a sensory experience as we will be introduced to cinnamon, ylang-ylang, nutmeg and vanilla in their raw forms. Enjoy some free time before our Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 10 : Zanzibar
Have breakfast at our hotel before being transferred, according to your flight schedule) to the Zanzibar Airport, where our singles safari and Zanzibar tour ends.
