You’ll have 11 magnificent days to explore, starting off in Windhoek, Namibia one of the smallest and cleanest capital cities in the world where you can treat yourself to the famous locally brewed beer, the Windhoek Lager. Journey over the Namib desert with its splendid red dunes and go on safari in Etosha National Park. Meet one of the last semi-nomadic and capture that perfect moment where you feel a true connection with Africa.
Day 1 : Windhoek
Explore Windhoek during the day and meet your group and your Tour Leader in the evening at 18:00 to get acquainted and review your trip details. Windhoek is a tiny capital town but with loads of interesting things to offer. One of the most famous is the display of 33 meteorites, the Gibeon Meteorites in the Post Street Mall. Here you can take pictures of and touch these extra-terrestrial bodies that are corrosive resistant due to the high amount of nickel in them. Shopping opportunities abound and for the historically inclined there are many museums and historical buildings within walking distance around the town centre. One of the most widely photographed and a historical landmark is the Christ Church, a Lutheran church, built in the Gothic revival style.
Day 2 : Windhoek to Etosha
Depart after breakfast for Etosha National Park, one of Southern Africa’s best-loved wildlife sanctuaries. Head out for an afternoon game drive to search for elephant, the unique black-faced impala, zebra, endangered black rhino or any of the more than 100 mammal species the park is home to. In the rainy season, the salt pans turn into shallow lakes, with pelicans, flamingos and other bird species flocking to this temporary water haven. Animals often cluster around the watering holes close to the campsites and this offers you the unique opportunity to sit and wait for the animals to come to you. These fenced watering holes have seating areas and are perfectly safe. Floodlights give you the opportunity to sit at the waterhole right through the night and enjoy the interaction all the different species have with each other around the water.
Day 3 : Etosha National Park
Enjoy a full day’s game drive in our Premium Overland Safari Vehicle. Gather memories of unique sights that you will not likely experience again. Watch how ghostly grey-white elephants bathe themselves in the white dust of the area or zoom in on the magnificent sight of giraffes etched against a wide and open horizon. Overnight at another beautiful camp inside Etosha National Park and maybe you are just lucky enough to fall asleep with the haunting call of a hyena or a lion roaring in the distance.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 4 : Etosha National Park to Kamanjab
We overnight about 20 km outside Kamanjab on a family farm. This extraordinary place offers guided tours around an authentic Himba village. Experience in depth the life and ways of living of the last traditional tribe in Namibia. Ever heard of the milking ceremony and a smoke bath? Learn about their beliefs in their ancestors and herbal medicine, their hairstyles and jewellery imitating the status of each tribe member as well as their close relationship with nature, their cattle and children.
Day 5 : Kamanjab to Brandberg
We travel south to Brandberg which is home to Königstein, at 2,573m above sea level the highest peak in Namibia. We visit the famous White Lady Bushmen painting in the Brandberg on a guided self-drive tour with our Polaris Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV). The walk to the painting is not strenuous and takes about 2 hours in a very hot environment so be sure to be armed with a hat, sunglasses, comfortable closed shoes and plenty water and sunscreen. Enjoy the breath-taking scenery along the riverbed on the way to the famous “lady”, with multicoloured rocks that take on various shades of flaming orange in the late afternoon, giving the mountain its name. Around the lodge area, there is a good chance to see the famous desert elephant, sometimes casually wandering into the lodge premises.
Our UTV’s enable clients to enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife of the Brandberg area as well as experience the thrill of driving one of these customised fitted Polaris all-terrain-vehicles. Tours are led by professional local guides and backup includes satellite phone communications and vehicle tracking. A few other self-drives are also offered, which you can book as optional activities. See details under the activity summary.
Day 6 : Brandberg to Swakopmund
Continue to Swakopmund with its cooler Atlantic sea air, cultural experiences and options for some extreme adventures like quad biking, sand boarding, 4×4 safaris, skydiving (weather permitting) and more. Swakopmund offers a variety of bakeries and cafes with a selection of reasonably priced meals (budget approximately $5-12 USD per meal).
