Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival

  You will be collected from your accommodation by our air-conditioned, purpose built 4WD vehicle and travel north to Cape Tribulation along a spectacular coastline hugging two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest. This route is now known as The Great Barrier Reef Drive and it will allow you to experience the world’s oldest continuously growing rainforest, which is renowned for its amazing diversity of plant and animal life.
  
  Cross the Daintree River on the cable ferry for a leisurely drive through ancient rainforest. Indulge on tasty homemade scones and sip on the fresh local Daintree Tea or coffee at the Heritage Lodge. Continue north as you cross rivers and climb mountain ranges on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track. Your experienced guide will enlighten you with incredible stories and history as your journey takes you through some of the most incredible scenery in the country.
  
  Your next stop will be the Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal, via the Bobby and Jacky Ball Bloomfield River Bridge, which was completed in late 2014. You will have the opportunity to visit the Bana Yirriji Art and Cultural Centre.
  
  Continuing north, we stop for a tasty lunch at Bloom’s Cafe before a visit to one of Queensland’s landmark pubs. Built in 1875 of timber and iron, the infamous Lion’s Den Hotel includes a museum, where they have on display a collection of unique prospector artefacts. Just a short distance further, you will see the unique geological oddity known as Black Mountain. Surrounded in mystery and spoken of by ancient Aboriginal legend, stop to observe this facsinating site before arriving in Cooktown.
  
  Ascend Grassy Hill for the spectacular panoramic views of the Endeavour River, Coral Sea and Cooktown. Have your camera ready! Transfer to your chosen accommodation for your overnight stay in Cooktown. Enjoy the spectacular sunset over the Endeavour River from your own vantage point or take the optional 2 hour sunset Cruise on the Endeavour River.

  Experience the Endeavor River at the most beautiful time of day with River Bend Tours. Explore the harbour in the long afternoon light before heading upstream to watch the sunset over the distant ranges. While navigating the maze way of smaller creeks, we will serve a complimentary gourmet cheese platter. After dark, spotlights add a whole new perspective to the impenetrable walls of mangrove trees that line the river. Hear stories about the glory days of the gold rush when Cooktown was the gateway to the frontier. This sunset cruise is a wonderful way to end your day of exploring.

• Day 2 : Cooktown

  Enjoy a free day to explore the many wonders of historical Cooktown. Take this time to visit the World Class James Cook Museum and admire the self guided landmarks as you stroll along the shores of the Endeavour River.   The unique charm and historic atmosphere of the main street still prevails. Late afternoon we depart Cooktown along the inland road, the Mulligan Highway. Travel through diverse landscapes of cattle stations and the Palmer River gold mine region, which is the outback of Far North Queensland. Stop for a meal break (at your own expense) before your 2 day tour of discovery concludes and you are returned to your chosen accommodation in Port Douglas or Cairns early evening.
