Just north of Port Douglas is the beautiful Cooya Beach (Kuyu Kuyu). This special place is a traditional fishing ground of the Kuku Yalanji people. Join one of the Kubirri Warra brothers (Linc or Brandon) on one of their beach, mudflat and mangrove walks.
You will be introduced to traditional fishing and gathering techniques with the aim of finding your own tucker (food). Your catch may include crabs, mussels and fish, which are cooked up for everyone to share with homemade damper on the balcony of the family’s home.A delicious lunch infused with local flavours is served in the Mossman Gorge Centre at the edge of the rainforest. There is also time to explore the gallery, which is filled with artworks from prominent and emerging local artists of the area
Journey into the lush rainforest of Mossman Gorge and experience the wonders of the World Heritage Rainforest. Get lost in its enchanting stories and rich Indigenous heritage. You will be greeted with a traditional smoking ceremony. This ceremony is conducted by Aboriginal people with specialised cultural knowledge to welcome people to their land. It’s a ceremony of spiritual cleansing, to ward of evil spirits and to ensure that, while you are on the traditional land of Kuku Yalanji people, you are accepted and honoured.
Experience one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful rainforests with your Adventure North guide. Take an easy walk across boardwalks, tracks and bridges that protect the delicate ecosystem, which adorns spectacular waterfalls and mountain ranges. Your guide will explain the rich flora, fauna and diverse ecosystem of this amazing rainforest.Continuing north, you will cross the Daintree River by cable ferry as you journey deep into the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation. Experience a night in Cape Tribulation, where the Reef meets the Rainforest, at your chosen accommodation.
Have breakfast and the morning to enjoy the Daintree at your leisure. There’s an opportunity to go Jungle Surfing, Kayaking or Horse riding before venturing to Cape Tribulation Beach. Enjoy lunch before a one hour cruise on the mighty Daintree River, where you will have the opportunity to spot wildlife and crocodiles.
On our return journey home, you will visit with local Aboriginal Artist “Binna” from Janbal Gallery. Learn how to understand stories told through Aboriginal paintings and create your own souvenir of Australian art. Your two day journey of discovery comes to a close as you are returned to your accommodation in Port Douglas or Cairns.
Day 1 : Kuku Yalanji
) Today, you will be collected from your accommodation to travel north of Port
Douglas to beautiful Cooya Beach (Kuyu Kuyu), the traditional fishing grounds of the Kuku
Yalanji people. You will be welcomed by a member of the Kubirri Warra clan who will
introduce you to their traditional fishing and gathering techniques with the aim of finding
your own tucker (food). Join them on a walk along the beach and mudflats into the
shallows and mangroves. Learn about the three diverse ecosystems - beach, mangrove
and coastal reef - that are interconnected by the ever-changing mudflats and tidal
lagoons. After the walk, any catch of crabs, mussels and fish is cooked up to share with
homemade damper on the balcony of the family home.
Our next stop is Mossman Gorge where you are greeted with a traditional smoking
ceremony of spiritual cleansing. Learn about the history of the smoking ceremony before
experiencing it for yourself. The ceremony was traditionally conducted to ward off evil
spirits and ensures that, while you are on the land of the Kuku Yalanji, you are accepted
and honoured.After a delicious lunch infused with local flavours, there’s time visit the Mossman Gorge
gallery which is filled with artworks from prominent and emerging local artists, before
continuing on to the rainforest walk.

ecosystem of the Daintree and lead you to the river where you have the option to swim
(weather dependent and time permitting). Enjoy the clear cool waters, surrounded by
pristine rainforest before we continue on our journey.
Travelling north through the rainforest, we cross the Daintree River by cable ferry as we
journey deep into the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation.
Overnight: Cape Tribulation Beach House
Day 2 : Morning Walk
After a light breakfast, rejoin the group for an early morning walk along Cape
Tribulation Beach. Nowhere else in the world do two World Heritage-listed sites meet.
Experience the amazement of both as you walk over the beach to the lookout to view
where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef.
Next, the tour continues on to the Daintree River and it’s all aboard for a one-hour cruise.
You will be travelling along one of the most densely populated mangrove estuaries in the
world, so keep a look out for wildlife including crocodiles, birds, snakes, butterflies,
goannas and insects as you cruise through spectacular scenery.
After the cruise, we travel on to lunch at a cafe in the sugar township of Mossman before
visiting Janbal Gallery on our return journey. Meet local Aboriginal artist, “Binna”, and learn
how to understand stories told through Aboriginal paintings. Share in Aboriginal culture
through storytelling experiences and create your own souvenir of Australian art to take
home.
Your journey of discovery comes to a close as you are returned to your chosen
accommodation in Port Douglas or Cairns.
