Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Cape Town

  Explore the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town during the day and meet your group and your Tour Leader in the evening at 18.00 to get acquainted and review your trip details. Cape Town offers an unbelievable variety of experiences, tastes and sightseeing. Try a variety of exotic tastes, like some of the delicious Cape Malay curries, the famous local dish Bobotie, or the freshest seafood at one of exquisite seafood restaurants at the V&A Waterfront. Make sure to arrive a day early to go to the world-famous Robben Island where former President Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison, visit Cape Point or go with a cable car up Table Mountain to enjoy a panoramic view of Cape Town from the top.

• Day 2 : Cape Town

  After breakfast, we depart for the Cape of Good Hope at the tip of the Cape Peninsula. Rugged rocks and sheer cliffs tower more than 200m above sea level. The natural vegetation of the area, fynbos, comprises the smallest but richest of the world’s six floral kingdoms. After lunch, we visit the endangered Boulders African Penguin Colony in Simonstown.

• Day 3 : Cape Town to Strandfontein

  Today we head north to the West Coast of South Africa. Strandfontein, a popular tourist attraction with a picturesque shoreline, offers tranquillity and have a pleasant and carefree nature. Watch as Sandpipers, Gulls and Oystercatchers scavenge for food. Please do not collect any mussel or other sea creatures – special licenses are required. On the way to Strandfontein, you will stop to do a short walk to the Heerenlogement Cave close to the small town Graafwater. This shelter has earned itself the name of “Holiday Inn of the 17th century” due to all the people who took refuge there on a temporary basis.

• Day 4 : Strandfontein to Augrabies Falls National Park

  Our next stop is the Augrabies National Park. This place was named by the local Khoi residents “Aukoerebis” – meaning “Place of big noise” in Nama. The most spectacular feature of this National Park is the Augrabies Falls, after which the park was named. Here the Orange River, when in flood, thunders 56 meters down over rocks and then continue in a narrow gorge for another 18 kilometres before spreading out and continuing its journey to the coast. As this is a very arid environment, vegetation is hardy and includes succulents, aloes, acacias and the Namaqua fig. Augrabies is ideal for self-hikes, birdwatching and is also home to 46 mammal species. Animals and birds to look out for are Broadley’s flat lizard known as the Augrabies flat lizard, rock hyrax (dassie), klipspringer, Verreaux’s (Black) Eagle and the Hartmann's mountain zebra.

• Day 5 : Augrabies Falls National Park to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

  This unique park is an amalgamation of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana, bordering Namibia on the west. The park comprises an area of over 3.6 million hectares – one of very few conservation areas of this magnitude left in the world. Red sand dunes, sparse vegetation and the dry riverbeds show antelope and predators off to spectacular advantage and provide excellent photographic opportunities. Our accommodation is just outside the park.

• Day 6 : Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

  A day for photo opportunities, we visit the park for the day for a full day’s game drive with our Premium Overland Safari Vehicle. This is a land of contrast and unique beauty, red sand dunes with a backdrop of deep blue sky. Here you find straight-horned oryx wandering in the waving yellow-gold dune bushman grass. Majestic camel thorn trees on open plains give home and shade to many of the Kalahari's dwellers. The sparse vegetation and the dry riverbeds show antelope and predators off to spectacular advantage and provide excellent photographic opportunities. Keep cameras ready for the famous black-maned Kalahari lions.

• Day 7 : Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to Seeheim

  We cross the South African / Namibian border and travel to Seeheim. Early in the 20th century, the sole purpose of this small town was that of a junction station between Keetmanshoop, Lüderitz and Karasburg. This rustic oasis in the desert built from stone is where you will be spending your first night under the Namibian starlit sky.

• Day 8 : Seeheim to Sesriem

  Sesriem is a small settlement located in the Namib Desert. The name Sesriem means “six belts’ and was named by the Dorsland Trekkers, a group of Afrikaans-speaking settlers. It is said that they had to tie together 6 belts (made of oryx hide) to reach buckets down into the Sesriem Canyon to scoop up water. The Sesriem Canyon is a natural canyon carved in sedimentary rock.

• Day 9 : Sesriem

  An early departure will give you the opportunity to climb the majestic Dune 45 during the cooler time of the day. Dune 45 was named for its proximity to Sesriem gate before continuing to Sossusvlei / Deadvlei, a seemingly endless expanse of sand dunes. Sand that was carried to the west coast by the Orange River is blown back again inland by winds and formed the dunes of the Namib Desert. The Namib, a minimum of 55 million years old, is regarded as the oldest desert in the world. The sand here is coloured red due to the high levels of iron oxide. These dunes are known as star dunes, created by winds blowing from all directions and is also known as the highest sand dunes in the world. In the afternoon, you will visit the Sesriem Canyon, a miniature canyon by world standards but beautiful to walk around in and appreciate the distinctive sedimentary rocks and conglomerate that line the canyon walls.

• Day 10 : Sesriem to Windhoek

  Today you travel to Windhoek, Namibia's capital. Spend the last few hours of the day exploring Windhoek and its strong German influence. You'll have the option to celebrate tonight at one of Windhoek’s famous restaurants. This tiny capital town has loads of interesting things to offer. One of the most famous is the display of 33 meteorites, the Gibeon Meteorites in the Post Street Mall. Here you can take pictures of and touch these extra-terrestrial bodies that are corrosive resistant due to the high amount of nickel in them. Shopping opportunities abound and for the historically inclined there are many museums and historical buildings within walking distance around the town centre. One of the most widely photographed and a historical landmark is the Christ Church, a Lutheran church, built in the Gothic revival style.

• Day 11 : Windhoek to Ghanzi

  Today you depart Windhoek early for a long drive through the eastern part of Namibia, crossing the border into Botswana and travelling into the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Ghanzi is the area where San (Bushmen) live who still have the knowledge of an ancient lifestyle and who are eager to welcome visitors into their almost forgotten world. In the evening enjoy an optional ancient dance ritual performed around a campfire by the San and if the night is clear, enjoy the sparkling, starry skies for which Ghanzi is famous.

• Day 12 : Ghanzi to Okavango Delta

  Today you leave early morning for a long drive north-east across the Botswana interior towards Maun, Botswana's fifth largest town. Once you arrive in Maun you will have the option to go on a 2-night fly-in safari into the Okavango Delta. This camp is accessible by light aircraft only, a 20-minute flight from Maun. On arrival, you will be met by your personal guide and welcomed to the island. Your camp for the next 2 nights is situated on the edge of Chief’s Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango, bordering the Moremi Game Reserve.

• Day 13 : Okavango Delta

  Today you will rise early for a nature walk with your own professional guide (a maximum of two guests per guide), returning for a late breakfast. Relax at camp reading a book or cooling down from the midday heat in the fresh waters of the Delta (under the watchful eye of your guide). In the afternoon after the midday heat has dissipated you will venture out again into nature in search of birds and possibly some wildlife. Should you wish to explore for the whole day, we’ll be happy to pack you a picnic lunch. You will also get a chance to go to the nearby islands in a mokoro, the traditional dug-out canoe that seats two people. Your engine is a human being called a poler. Spend your last night in the heart of the Delta and African bush and fall asleep to the sound of hippos grunting. Early the next morning you will fly back to Maun

• Day 14 : Maun to Elephant Sands

  After an early breakfast, you will catch your flight back to Maun where you will meet up with the rest of the group. Set out for Elephant Sands, which is close to the Botswanan village of Nata. Elephant Sands is famous for its watering hole, voted as one of the top ten watering holes in Africa. At this watering hole, you can expect to see animals such as wild dogs, different antelope species and of course elephants that walk through the campsite searching for fresh water. This will probably be the closest you will get to these wild animals on foot. With luck on your side, you may have the wonderful and unique experience of sitting in front of your tented room, watching elephants and other animals come and go to quench their thirst at the watering hole while you sip on a sundowner yourself.

• Day 15 : Elephant Sands to Chobe River, Kasane

  Today you continue to the small town of Kasane, which is adjacent to the Chobe National Park & Chobe River. Relish the views during your included afternoon sunset boat cruise. Take your own sundowner with you as you look for wildlife on the banks of the Chobe River. Game such as elephant, buffalo, kudu, bushbuck, hippo, giraffe and sable are commonly seen along the river edge, and it's a birdwatcher’s paradise during the summer months. (You have an opportunity to go on an optional photo safari at your own expense, however, you would forfeit the included afternoon sunset boat cruise).

• Day 16 : Chobe River ( Kasane) to Livingstone for Victoria Falls

  You can’t ask for a better way to start your day in search of wild animals on your included game drive in Chobe National Park. Afterwards, cross into Zambia and enjoy a short drive to the magnificent Victoria Falls and its charming little town, Livingstone. This is your home base for the next two nights. The Victoria Falls is not the widest or highest falls but is regarded as the world's biggest. It produces a breath-taking curtain of falling water as it drops into the gorge below. You can see why it's considered among one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

• Day 17 : Livingstone

  Today you will have time to do some of the action-filled activities that the area offers. Bungee jump or gorge swing off the Victoria Falls Bridge that links Zambia and Zimbabwe and have a different view of the Victoria Falls at the same time. This bridge is constructed to carry railway, road and foot traffic. For an adrenaline activity, closer to the Zambezi River, choose a half day or full day white water rafting adventure. Many of our groups opt to book this evening together aboard a sunset cruise along the Zambezi River with game-viewing, beautiful scenery and an open bar.

• Day 18 : Livingstone (Victoria Falls) to Gwango

  After breakfast, you will cross the border into Zimbabwe and stop at our Africa4us Kids Project to either help with construction or deliver books and toys. Afterwards you will continue to Gwango Elephant Lodge which is situated just outside Hwange National Park, named after a local chief. This park is the largest park in Zimbabwe occupying roughly 14,650 square kilometres. Look forward to an included afternoon open vehicle game drive on the Gwango estate. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to go on an optional night game drive in this estate which will give you the opportunity to discover nocturnal animals such as porcupines, civet cats, genet and leopard.

• Day 19 : Gwango to Bulawayo

  This morning you will head south towards Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second, largest city, and Matobo National Park, which is at the Matobo or Matopos Hills, a scenic area of granite kopjes and wooded valleys. On your way, you visit the Painted Dog Conservation Project. Painted Dogs, also known as African Wild Dogs, are amongst Africa’s most endangered species. This project is involved in various conservation programs such as anti-poaching, rehabilitation, reintroduction and pack monitoring. After the project visit, you continue to Big Cave Camp, also known as” the safari lodge on the rocks” which will be your home for the next two nights. High up on the granite outcrop on which the lodge is built, you will have a magnificent view of Matobo National Park below.

• Day 20 : Bulawayo & Matobo National Park

  Enjoy a day filled with the best that Matobo National Park offers, from a game drive to looking for rhino on foot, bringing you as close as possible with these ancient looking giants. Visitors to Matobo National Park regularly spot white and black rhino, sable antelope and impala, among other wildlife. Return to Big Cave Camp after your exciting day and enjoy a sundowner while watching another spectacular African sunset.

• Day 21 : Bulawayo to Tshipise

  Today you cross the Zimbabwe / South African Border. You will overnight at the Tshipise Forever Resort, “Tshipise” means “something warm”, and the famous Tshipise koppie towers protectively over the resort. Giant Baobab trees dot the landscape and the resort’s camping grounds are barely visible among the mopane, red bushwillow and jakkalsbessie trees. This lush Bushveld retreat enchants jaded city dwellers. Soak your cares away in the healing waters of the mineral pools.

• Day 22 : Tshipise to Kruger National Park

  Today you travel to the famous Kruger National Park, now part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park which forms with parks in Mozambique and Zimbabwe a natural sanctuary for a huge variety of animals. Here they live a natural life where they must fend for food and territory the same way they did for thousands of years. Here they can start following ancient migratory routes again because fences are coming down between the parks. Enroute to your campsite, enjoy a game drive in your Premium Overland Safari Vehicle and get ready to spot hippos, giraffes, elephants, zebras, lions, and many other species in one of Africa's greatest wildlife areas. You'll have the option to book an open vehicle night game drive if available.

• Day 23 : Kruger National Park

  Enjoy another full day game drive in Kruger National Park with approximately 2000 plant, 53 fish, 34 amphibian, 118 reptile, 517 bird and 147 mammal species ready for you to discover. You will experience first-hand why Kruger National Park is known as the flagship of South African national parks. Enjoy a game drive enroute to the campsite. Sit around a campfire with your sundowner and enjoy the African night sounds drifting into the camping area.

• Day 24 : Kruger National Park to Johannesburg

  Drive to Johannesburg for your last night of the trip. Johannesburg is South Africa’s largest city, and also known as Egoli, or The City of Gold, referring to the gold mining history of this fast-paced city. Book a day or two post tour to explore this fast-paced city. A visit to Gold Reef City, the amusement park and museum built on an old mine shaft will give you the opportunity for a ride on the Shaft of Terror, a vertical-drop roller coaster that is known as the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Africa due to its sheer 47-metre drop. For the historically inclined there is the ever-popular Soweto tour or just jump on a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus to discover Johannesburg at your own pace. Tonight, you will have the opportunity to have dinner in one of the many excellent restaurants the city has to offer.

• Day 25 : Johannesburg

  Today is the final day with the group, and you will get the opportunities to say your goodbyes. Following completion of the tour. We will arrange for you to be transported to a hotel in JoBurg for a final night stay.

• Day 26 : Johannesburg

  Today at an agreed time you will be picked up and transferred to Johannesburg airport, for your onward journey/journey home.
