Stop by Echuya Forest continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the best birding spot is Africa home to 23 of Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemics. Mt Rwenzori with snowcapped peaks has a record of 19 of the Albertine Rift endemics. Semuliki National Park with Central African species not found anywhere else in East Africa.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    On arrival Alpha Adventure Safaris representative will receive you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy the fresh breeze from Lake Victoria, which surrounds the airport. Retire to your lodge and prepare to start your birding tour first to Mabamba in search of the elusive shoebill.

  • Day 2 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Birding to Mgahinga Gorilla national park Today, we depart as we bird watching on our way to Mgahinga gorilla national park arriving in the evening. The drive there takes you through the rolling hills of Kigezi before you catch glimpses of the Virunga mountains that make up Mgahinga gorilla national park.

  • Day 3 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Birding tour in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for Albertine Rift Endemics-After an early breakfast, we start bird watching on our way to the beautiful Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which is also the country’s most scenic and smallest park. With stopovers enroute, of birding and meals we arrive at our lodge in the evening. Mgahinga has 180 recorded bird species; we shall bird watch through various montane habitats along the Gorge trail. The species to search for include; Cape and Archer’s Robin-chat, Brown-crowned Tchagra, Black-headed Waxbill, Streaky Seedeater, Handsome Francolin, Kivu Ground Thrush, Cinnamon Bracken Warbler, Greater Double collard Sunbird, Rwenzori Turcaco, Dusky Turtle Dove, Rwenzori Batis, Shelly’s Dusky Crimsonwing, Olive Pigeon, Black headed waxbill, Western Green Tinkerbird, White-starred Robin, Brown Woodland Warbler, Striped breasted Tit, Bronze, Malachite and Scarlet-tufted Sunbirds.

  • Day 4 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Bird watching tour to Ruhija in Bwindi Impenetrable national park Bwindi Impenetrable forest is famously known for being home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population but the forest boasts of being Africa’s best birding spot with over 347 confirmed bird species and 24 of 25 Uganda’s Albertine Rift endemics. The birds species we are likely to see in Ruhija sector include the White-starred Robin, African Green Broad bill, Shelley’s Crimson-wing, White- browed Crombec, Rwenzori Batis, Collared Apalis, Banded Prinia, Mountain and Yellow-streaked Greenbul. More birds include the Mountain Illadopsis, Archer’s Robin-chat, Montane Sooty Boubou, Strange Weaver, Regal Sunbirds, Northern Olive Thrush, Abyssinian Crimson-wing, Black headed Waxbill, Dusky Crimsonwing, Brown-capped weaver, Sharpe’s Starling and many others.

  • Day 5 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Whole day birding in Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable forest Mubwindi Swamp is one of the famous birding spots in Bwindi impenetrable forest. Some of the birds to lookout for are; Grauer’s Rush Warble, Yellow-billed Barbet, Great Blue and Black-billed Turaco, Bar-tailed Trogon, White-headed Hoopoe, Montane Oriole, Pink-footed Puffback, Lagden’s Bush-Shrike, Dusky Twin spot, Waller’s Starling, Dwarf Honey-Guide, Rufous-breasted Sparrow hawk, Oriole Finch, Doherty’s Bush-Shrike, Red-headed Malimbe, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Grey-headed Sparrow, Streaky Seedeaters, and Rwenzori Nightjar etc.

  • Day 6 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Transfer to Buhoma sector for another bird watching tour of Bwindi impenetrable national park We leave for Buhoma sector in Bwindi impenetrable forest with a stopover at the “The Neck” – a stretch of forest connecting Ruhija section to Buhoma section. Here we look out for Cassin’s grey flycatcher, Cassin’s Hawk Eagle, Black Bee-eaters, Toro-Olive Greenbul, Bronze-napped Pigeon, Chapin’s Flycatcher, pink footed puff back, Mountain wagtail and others.

  • Day 7 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Birding in Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable forest Via the ‘the Neck” Today you have an option of gorilla tracking. Otherwise we continue birding following different trails. The bird species on the trails include; White-bellied Robin-chat, Brown, Blue-headed, Thick-billed Seedeater, Northern Double-collared and Grey headed Sunbirds, Black Bee-Eater, Common Stonechat, Black throated Robin chat, Barred Long tailed Cuckoo, Black throated Apalis, Mountain Masked Apalis, Rwenzori Batis, African broadbill, Montane Oriole, African Golden Oriole, Streaky Seedeater, Handsome Francolin and, Cape wagtail, White-chinned Prinia, Olive Green etc.

  • Day 8 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Birding in Kibale National Park –This park protects a rain forest that offers excellent birding opportunities. Today morning we will have stopovers of birding as we drive from Bwindi impenetrable forest through Queen Elizabeth NP to Kibale forest. This will be a whole days drive because of the birding stops.

    Birding in Kibale Forest for the Green breasted Pitta With our packed lunch after an early breakfast, we start birding Kibale forest. The species to look out for include; White-naped Pigeon, African Pitta, Green-breasted Pitta, Red-winged Francolin, Joyful Greenbul, Grey-winged Robin, Dark-backed and Yellow-mantled Weavers, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher, Masked and Black-capped Apalises, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Orange-tufted, Green-throated, Green-headed and Tiny sunbirds, Dusky and Olive Long-tailed Cuckoos, Black bee-eater, Think-billed and Willcock’s Honeyguide etc.

  • Day 10 : Birding Tour/Safari in Uganda

    Transfer to Semuliki Valley National Park After an early breakfast, we start journey to Semuliki Valley National Park birding along the way arriving in the evening because of the birding stops en route to Semuliki national park. You will have views of Rwenzori mountains in the back ground as you drive to your accommodation.

    Birding in the beautiful Semliki national park and game reserve ,looking out for a number of predominantly Central African species which are the continent’s most spectacular and sought after birds but cannot be found anywhere else in East Africa such as; Long-tailed Hawk, Congo Serpent Eagle, Lyre-tailed Honeyguide, the Black-Casqued Wattled, Piping, Red-billed Dwarf and White-crested Hornbills. We also look out for Blue Swallow, White-throated Blue Swallow, Swamp Palm Bulbul, Spotted Greenbul, White-starred Robin, Lowland Akalat, Red-throated Alethe, Fire-crested Alethe, Blue-shouldered Robin-Chat, Red-eyed Puffback, White-tailed Robin-Chat, Northern Bearded Scrub-Robin, Capped Wheatear, Abyssinian Ground-Thrush, Oberlaender’s Ground-Thrush, Grey Ground-Thrush, Little Grey Greenbul, Mountain Greenbul, Yellow-throated Nicator, Western Nicator etc.

    Birding as we transfer to Entebbe We bird watch our way back to Entebbe via Fortportal with numerous stopovers for other sightseeing and birding. Lunch will be enroute to our lodge. We arrive in Entebbe for the evening sunset cruise after which we later retire for the night/ prepare for departure.
