Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake famous for its flamingo population estimated to be more than a million hence it is referred to as the “Birds Paradise” or “The Pink Lake” by bird watchers.
The Lake is a home to a wide variety of other bird life as well as many animals including buffalo, lion, giraffe, leopard, waterbuck, impala, warthog, white rhino and the endangered “shy” black rhino.
Listed by Kenya as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, Lake Naivasha lies on the floor of the Rift Valley about 80 km north-west of the of Nairobi Kenya. Its banks consists of a shallow freshwater and fringing Acacia woodland. Lake Naivasha waters is supplied by the Aberdare Mountains and other sources along with substantial ground-water seepage. This Lake has got no outlet but reserves fresh water.
Due to its healthy fish population Lake Naivasha attracts an astonishing number of water depending birds. Up to 30,600 waterfowl have been recorded at this site, the lake is known for its high density of African Fish Eagles which nest in the surrounding Acacia woodland. It supports a diverse waterbird community, with more than 80 species regularly recorded.
Regionally threatened species include Oxyura maccoa, Anhinga rufa, Casmerodius albus, Podiceps cristatus, Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis, Thalassornis leuconotus, Porzana pusilla, Rynchops flavirostris,and the Phalacrocorax carbo. Globally threatened species include, Grey-crested Helmeted-shrike, Little Grebe, Lesser Flamingo, along with large congregations of Red-knobbed Coot, African Spoonbill and Basra Reed Warbler.Tips

Day 1 : Nairobi - Lake Nakuru National Park
You will be met and picked from your Nairobi city hotel for your 2 days safari bird watching safari Lake Nakuru National park and Lake Naivasha. Enter the park through Lanet gate and proceed with birdwatching en-route to Lodge/camp for lunch. Afternoon birding tour within Lake Nakuru National Park which is known as a Ramsar bird site specifically founded for the protection of the black and white rhino. It is also a home for more than 450 species of birds including the lesser and greater flamingos, pelicans, African fish eagles and many others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 2 : Lake Nakuru - Lake Naivasha
0600 Hours: Pre-breakfast- Early morning birding tour in search for birds within Lake Nakuru National Park followed by breakfast. Thereafter drive to Lake Naivasha for lunch. Afternoon boat ride on Lake Naivasha – freshwater lake with a picturesque view of Mount Longonot, hippos, over 400 species of birds alongside the lake including pelicans, African fish eagles, African darter, cormorants and the lesser flamingos which are migratory). Alternative visit crescent Island via Boat ride for a nature walk where you reach wildebeest, giraffe, zebra and antelopes from close range. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3 : Lake Naivasha - Hells Gate National Park - Drive to Nairobi
Breakfast driving back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch.
