It is located north of Arusha and is best climbed via the Momella Route, which starts at the Momella gate on the mountain's eastern side. On a clear day, climbers of Mount Kilimanjaro can see Mount Meru in the distance. Meru is also the fifth-highest peak in Africa.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival in Tanzania

  Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. There, you’ll meet your guide, who will brief you on the trek and check your gear. Any missing equipment can be rented.
  Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  
  Day 1: Momella Gate (1,500 m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m)
  
  You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha, and after a scenic drive through Arusha National Park, you’ll arrive at Momella gate. An armed park ranger will accompany you as you begin the trek through open grasslands, where you may spot giraffes and buffalo. After passing Maio Falls and the famous fig tree arch, you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut for the night.

  Distance: 10 km
  Elevation gain: 1,000 m

• Day 2 : Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m) – Saddle Hut (3,550 m)

  The trek continues through rainforest and moorland to Saddle Hut, which you will reach around midday. You have the option to hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) in the afternoon for breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park.

  Distance: 8 km
  Elevation gain: 1,050 m

• Day 3 : Saddle Hut (3,550 m) – Socialist Peak (4,566 m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m)

  The ascent to the summit starts at midnight. After passing Rhino Point, the trail becomes more challenging. The final stretch is along the crater rim, with magnificent views of Mount Meru’s ash cone. After summiting Socialist Peak, you’ll descend to Saddle Hut for a break before continuing to Miriakamba Hut.
  Hiking time: 12–14 hours
  Distance: 5 km up, 13 km down
  Elevation gain: 1,016 m, descent: 2,066 m

• Day 4 : Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m) – Momella Gate (1,500 m)

  Arusha After breakfast, the descent follows a shorter route to Momella gate, where you’ll have another chance to spot wildlife. At the gate, you’ll say goodbye to your crew, and your driver will take you back to your hotel or to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
  Hiking time: 2–3 hours
  Distance: Shorter descent
