Papua province is the largest and easternmost province of Indonesia.The total area is about 319,000 square km with a population of about 3,5 million people. The motto of Papua is Karya Swadaya(Sanskrit)means; work with one’s own might. 83% of the Papuans identified themselves as Christian(65% Protestant and 18% Roman Catholic), 16% of the Papua populations is Muslim and 1% Buddhist or Hindu. The city of Jayapura is the capital, also the largest city of Papua built on a slope overlooking the bay. Central east-west mountain range dominates the geography of the island over 1,600 km in total length.The province contains the highest mountains between the Himalayas and the Andes rising up to 4,884 metres high and ensuring a steady supply of rain from the tropical atmosphere.
The southern and northern lowlands stretch for hundreds of kilometres and include lowland rainforests, extensive wetlands, savanna grasslands and expanses of mangrove forest.
The Lorentz National Park in the southern lowlands is a UNESCO world heritage site.
Papua has an estimated 16,300 species of plant, 124 genera of which are endemic.Papua’s knwon forest fauna includes; marsupials, other mammals, bird species such as parrots and cockatoos and the world largest butterflies.
The waterways and wetlands of Papua are also home to salt and freshwater crocodile, flying foxes, osprey, bats and other animals.
Day 1 :
Arrival Jayapura, meet service,then continue your flight depart to Wamena at Upon arrival at Wamena airport, meeting with your guide then transfer to Yetni River which has the direction to Southern Baliem Valley. You will begin your trekk with all the porters and cook to reach Kilise in approx. 3 hours up and down the little hills. Late afternoon arrive at Kilise village, stay at Dani Typical Guest house. (Walk approx.3-4hours).
Day 2 :
Hike down through the beautiful country side and Dani villages. The trail is steep and could be very sleeper if it is in rainy season. Then continue the last trekking day back to Kurima with regular path of local people, and view suspension hanging bridge over Baliem river. We walk at Baliem river bank until Kurima. You may stop at river for re-freshing of your body and take some breaks. Late afternoon arrive in Kurima and Yetni then catch the car for drive back to Wamena(Walk approx. 4-5 hours).
Day 3 :
Today you will visit other villages, first 40 minutes drive to Jiwika village, walk 20 minutes to the village of Sumpaima to view the 250 years old Mummy. Then walk to the nearby village of Anemoigi to enjoy A Mock war and the traditional dance by Dani Tribe. You will see and experience the local culture and have an opportunity to interact with local villagers. On the way back to Wamen, visit Waga-Waga village to explore Contilola cave which can be reach 15 minutes by car.
Day 4 :
Today is your last day, transfer to airport for Jayapura, then change flight to connect your next destination.
