This is a 4 days culture and game drive tour! First stop is the escarpment outside Nairobi where you can enjoy the views of Mount Suswa and longonot rising from the Rift valley floor (particularly stunning on clear days). We then head to the Maasai Mara regarded as the ‘Jewel’ of Kenya’s wildlife viewing area where over a couple of days, you will enjoy fabulous game drives in the game reserve. We depart thereafter for the Loita Hills, to spend time with the local Maasai and learn a little more about their culture.
Day 1 : Nairobi to Loita Hills
Early pick up from your Nairobi hotel stopping briefly at the escarpment to enjoy views of Mount Suswa and Longonot rising from the Rift valley floor. We arrive Maasai Mara in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park in search of the Big five. The term “Big Five” refers to the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The area nearby is dotted with villages of Maasai people.
Day 2 : masai mara
Full day game drive with packed lunch exploring the Maasai Mara. Game drives in the Mara are rewarding all year round and you are likely to come across a pride of Lions, Cheetahs, Elephants, Zebras and Hippos. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration in between July and August. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers where Wildebeest migrate through.
Day 3 : Masai Mara to Loita Hills
Early breakfast before breaking up camp driving through the park viewing game towards the Loita hills to enjoy a truly authentic cultural experience with the Maasai. Arrive the ecocamp in time for lunch.
Main activity spent in camp orientation, guided Nature Walk and Maasai Cultural briefing with fire making presentation "Maasai style" followed by winding down the day with camp fire stories. After dinner and depending on your preference you can enjoy a relaxing dip in the nearby springs.
The name ‘Maji Moto” means “Hot Water”, and this refers to the natural hot spring near the village. Surrounded by trees, a dip in the spring in the evening is a refreshing way to soak away the day’s exertions.
Tonight; we spend the night in Igloo type tents which are furnished with mattresses, pillows, beddings and towels. All tents are secluded with private relaxing spot and a view. Bathroom facilities are shared.
Day 4 : Loita hills to Nairobi
Early morning breakfast followed by Maasai Warrior training; measuring skills in Sasol stick fighting, spear throwing and archery will be organized. Time permitting (and when school is in session) we make a visit to one of the nearby schools. The camp has established a relationship with several local schools, and often visitors decide they wish to help the school and children, sometimes by sponsoring a student, sometimes by providing the school with needed supplies... a box of pencils... a ream of paper. Small things that mean a lot.
Depart camp thereafter; driving back towards Nairobi to arrive in the late afternoon. Drop off at your hotel
