Zanzibar lies between 4 degrees south and 6 degrees south of equator. The word ‘Zanzibar “is derived from the old form "Zenjbar" which meant the Eastern Coast of Africa. It is probably a Persian word "Zenj or Zanj "means black and "Bar "means the land. These Persian settlers also left their mark upon the natives of the region, for these was certain amount of intermarrying.
Zanzibar is the Archipelago in Indian Ocean and was the political and economic key to East Africa, which comprises two main islands, Unguja and Pemba with small habitable ones. Unguja is the main one with the Head of the State and named as Zanzibar is about 85 Kilometres long and 39 Kilometres wide.
Pemba is 72 Kilometres long and 25 Kilometres wide. The highest point of Zanzibar is 120 metres above the sea level.
The capital of Zanzibar, located on island of Unguja as Zanzibar Town and it is cultural and historic Swahili City State and it is also located about 36 kms off the coast of mainland Tanzania.
Until 2002 Zanzibar had population of about 981, 754. Since the population growth is running about 3 % every year, it is now probably 1.2 million habitats in Zanzibar. Most of these habitats are practicing Islam of about 90 %, the rest are Christians and some Hindus.
Zanzibar is one of the cosmopolitan islands with ethnic background to Indian Ocean. Majorities are Africans and some coloured, Indians, and few Chinese. Kiswahili is widely spoken to whole Zanzibar’s and English is the second one but not spoken to every body

Day 1 : Stone Town
You will be transferred from Zanzibar International Airport to the Zanzibar Serena Inn, a scenic drive of approximately 45 minutes, giving you the opportunity to get a feel for this enchanting island. After check in you have the option of enjoying a fabulous seafood lunch before spending the afternoon soaking up the sun and adjusting to the relaxed pace of life on the coast.
You may want to explore the fascinating network of cobbled streets which make up Stone Town and get a feel for local life on the island.
Day 2 : Prison Isanland & Spice Tour
Whilst it would be tempting to spend one’s days relaxing around the swimming pool at Zanzibar Serena Inn, listening to the calming sounds of the ocean, Stone Town has so much else to offer! Today why not go out on an Island Spice tour before returning to the hotel for lunch, and an afternoon of relaxing on the beach or snorkeling in the crystal blue waters.
Zanzibar is famous for its trade in spices. For centuries the Arabs sailed with the Monsoon winds from Oman. The two main islands, Unguja (normally known as Zanzibar Island) and Pemba, provided an ideal base for the Omani Arabs, being relatively small, and therefore fairly easy to defend. Your guides on the tour are experts on the subject so be sure to ask questions.
Day 3 : Dolphin Tour
The waters around Zanzibar are teaming with marine life and today you can hop on a boat and go on the lookout for dolphins. If you’re lucky you maybe even have the chance to swim with them.
