Rising an impressive 3 miles above the plains, Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) on Mount Kilimanjaro offers a unique trekking experience. This iconic mountain, comprised of three extinct volcanic cones—Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira—boasts a wide range of ecosystems. As you ascend, you will journey from lush tropical rainforests through savannah grasslands, alpine woodlands, and moorlands, before reaching the summit’s snowfields and glaciers.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Here, you’ll meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check to ensure you have all necessary gear. Any missing items can be rented.

Day 1 - Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Elevation: 1,860m (6,100ft) to 2,700m (8,875ft)

Begin the trek with a drive to the Marangu Gate, where you will register and start your ascent through the lush rainforest. You may spot towering eucalyptus trees, unique birdlife, and Colobus monkeys along the way. After reaching Mandara Hut, you can opt for a short side trip to Maundi Crater for views of Northern Tanzania and Kenya.

Leaving the rainforest behind, you will enter the moorlands where stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks dominate the landscape. Giant lobelias and groundsels are common in this area, and you may start to feel the effects of altitude.

Today's climb takes you past the last water point, across the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi. The landscape turns into an alpine desert, where vegetation becomes sparse. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, you'll rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Distance: 6km (4 miles) ascent / 15km (9 miles) descent

You’ll begin your summit push around midnight, ascending to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim and continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After taking in the breathtaking views and capturing photos at the summit, you will descend back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut.

After breakfast, you’ll descend through the moorland and rainforest, arriving at the Marangu Gate. Here, you will receive your summit certificate before returning to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
