Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : 23rd August, 2019 (Friday)-Arrival at Paro/Thimphu

As you board your flight from Kathmandu into Paro valley, you will get to see some of the most breath taking scenic views of the Himalayas and the highest glacial peaks. Since the Paro airport runway is situated in a narrow valley between the high mountain peaks, you will have an exciting feeling to watch the professional pilots being able to land effortlessly.
As you exit from the Paro airport, you will be met by our guide and chauffeured to your hotel in Thimphu. En-route visit to Tamchogg Lhakhang to visit the iron bridge reconstructed using original chain links from the famous Tibetan bridge builder Thangtong Gyelpo.
Drive onwards to your hotel. Check in and have a lunch.
Later in the afternoon, you will drive to visit the National Memorial Chorten. The stupa, built in 1974 to honor the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck (1928–1972), is a prominent landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. In 2008, it underwent extensive renovation. It is popularly known as "the most visible religious landmark in Bhutan".
Followed by that drive to visit Buddha Dordenma. Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over thousands smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold. This statue is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at 54 metres (177 ft) and contains 8-inch and 12-inch-tall gold gilded bronze Buddha.
Later in the evening, drive to visit Tashichhodzong. Tashichho Dzong has been the seat of the government since 1952 and presently houses the throne room and offices of the king, the secretariat and the ministries of home affairs and finance. Other government departments are housed in buildings nearby. The dzong is located close to Thimphu town, next to the banks of the Wang Chhu River. It is an impressively large structure, surrounded by well-kept lawns and beautiful gardens.
Spend one overnight at Hotel Dralha. Your accommodation will be in a Standard deluxe room on full board basis.

  • Day 2 : 24th August, 2019 (Saturday)-Thimphu

A short distance up the road to the BBS tower viewpoint is a trail leading to a large fenced enclosure that was originally established as a zoo. It's worthwhile taking the time to see these oddball mammals. The best time to see them is early morning, when they gather near the fence to feed. Takin is the national animal of Bhutan, and a visit to Motithang Takin Preserve is a must-do in Thimphu. This one-of-its-kind animal can be found only in Bhutan which has got face of a goat, and the body of a cow. Legends have it that the formation of Takin was created by the Buddhist yogi Drupa Kunley. Followed by that, drive straight to visit the BBS tower. Among Thimphu’s many tourist attraction is the BBS Tower, also known by the name Sangaygang. Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) runs the radio and television network of the country and has a telecommunication tower built on the hilltop. It is located at 2685m and offers the view of entire Thimphu valley.
Onwards drive onwards to visit the Zilukha Nunnery. Drubthob Goemba monastery also called Zilukha nunnery is located on the slopes, looking down at Golf course and Tashicho Dzong with around 70 or so resident nuns. Zilukha is among the few nunneries in Bhutan. This is the biggest nunnery in Bhutan and is a good place to photograph and interact with the nuns and learn about what it takes and feels like to be a Bhutanese Buddhist Nun. You’ll see many nuns chanting prayers and turning prayer wheels in Zhlukha nunnery. In Bhutan, girls and women are admitted to nunneries for short to long period of time. They are educated in Buddhism here and after their graduation they dedicate their lives in serving the community at large. Spend some time interacting with the nuns and get to know their beliefs and worldview.
Stop for a lunch at the local restaurant or at the hotel.
After the lunch, drive onwards to visit the 13 arts and crafts school. This institute, commonly known as 'the painting school', operates four- to six-year courses that provide instruction in Bhutan's 13 traditional arts. Students specialize in painting (furniture, thangkas – painted religious pictures, usually on canvas), woodcarving (masks, statues, bowls), embroidery (hangings, boots, clothes) or statue-making (clay). The craft demonstrations are a photographers' dream and it's hard not to be impressed with the skill and discipline of the young students. The showroom sells good-value pieces made by students.
Later in the afternoon, drive to visit the Jungshi paper making factory. The Jungshi handmade paper factory uses traditional methods to produce the authentic Bhutanese paper known as Deh-sho. The Jungshi paper factory continues to preserve and promote this age-old Bhutanese tradition. It also produces various other products, such as stationery and greeting cards. The factory uses the bark of two tree species, the Daphne tree and Dhekap tree in the manufacture of traditional paper. Visitors can observe the entire process of producing handmade paper using ancient traditional methods that have been practiced for generations. You can even try your hand at this ancient craft and make some paper of your very own as a souvenir. Deh-sho paper was originally used by monasteries for woodblock and manuscript books and also for writing prayer books.
After the visit, rest of the time is for leisure.

  • Day 3 : 25th August, 2019 (Sunday)-Thimphu/Punakha
