Brahmatal is a high altitude lake nestling in the depths of Himalayas. Winter sweeps alluringly on the slopes here, making Brahmatal one of the rare Himalayan destinations available for trekking in winters. Brahmatal is located on the opposite side of the famous Roopkund. Trek through deep and shadowy forests of oaks and rhododendrons to snow-covered meadows, lakeside camping at Bekaltal, the alpine Brahmatal lake vicinity, and a climactic vision of fabulous high peaks! Peaks like Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Chowkhamba, Nilkanth, Kamet, Hathi, and Ghoda can be witnessed which are all 7000+ peaks. The Brahmatal is where Lord Brahma meditated as per Hindu mythology and is of great religious significance. The Brahmatal trek is ideal for both beginners and experienced trekkers.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Rishikesh to Lohajung (2300 m) (Drive 8-10 hours)

  Lohajung is a beautiful village located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It serves as a base camp for many treks in Uttarakhand, including Bendni Bugyal and Roopkund treks, amongst others. The drive from Rishikesh to Lohajung will be long and tiring. Still, all that fatigue will be put to rest the moment you step into the Lohajung village and witness the sun setting beautifully behind the massive mountains. We rest here for the night to prepare for the several days of trekking and camping ahead!

• Day 2 : Lohajung to Bekaltal (2750 m) (4-5 hrs trek, 6 km)

  One of the many impressive things about the Brahmatal Lake trek is that you get to visit not one – but two lakes during the trek's duration! Bekaltal is the first lake on this trek and also the first campsite after Lohajung. The hike to Bekaltal has a gradual ascent through beautiful oak and rhododendron forests. On this day, you also get to see the first sighting of the majestic Mt Trishul!

• Day 3 : Bekatal to Brahmatal (3400 m) (6-7 hrs trek, 6 km)

  On this day, we begin our trek towards the Brahmatal campsite. The initial trail of this day's hike is steep, going through oak and rhododendron forests until the forests open up to a vast clearing, where the path then becomes gradual and easy to walk. These meadows are dominated by the imposing views of Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti that remain with you throughout the trek thereon. From these meadows, you can also spot the fields of the Roopkund trail on the mountain opposite to you! After the ascent to Jhandi Top – which is a beautiful place that is sure to leave a mark on you – trekkers make a descent towards the Brahmatal campsite and halt for the night.

• Day 4 : Brahmatal to Brahmatal Top (3800 m) and back to the campsite (13 km, 6-8 hours)

  This day's trek is a moderate walk with a moderate ascent, which opens into a beautiful flat walk. The Brahmatal lake sits in the middle of a massive meadow, in a crater. Each angle of the lake provides you with a different view, and the mountains flaking on the side are plain gorgeous. This is one of the most visually pleasing days in the trek.

• Day 5 : Brahmatal to Lohajung (11 km, 6-7 hours)

  We hike back to Lohajung from Brahmatal itself, following the same route via Bekaltal. This is the last day of trekking, and the journey of the beautiful trek ends here. Though the distance is long on this day, it will not take too much time to reach Lohajung as it is mostly a steady descent.

• Day 6 : Lohajung to Rishikesh (Drive 8-10 hrs)

  From Lohajung, we drive back to Rishikesh the next morning, only to carry a full heart with happy memories that are sure to last you a lifetime!
