On this adventure we sleep under the stars in swags, we camp in the outback, the trip is all inclusive and is a hands on trip where everyone helps to prepare the meals, load the trailer and collect firewood for the campfire.
Although we welcome all types of travellers from all over the world, the trip is primarily aimed at backpackers and the young and young at heart. Our general passenger is 18-45, fit and adventurous and we normally have individual travellers or couples on board. If you love an adventure - you will love this trip between Adelaide and Alice Springs!
Day 1 : Clare Valley, Flinders Ranges, Hikes and More
Departing Adelaide at around 6:30am we head north to the beautiful Clare Valley Wine region. Soon after we are headed into the rugged outback, visiting the historic town of Melrose which is the gateway to the Flinders Ranges. We explore Alligator Gorge which at the right time is covered by wild flowers and then we spend our first night at a bush camp under a million stars in a swag.
Day 2 : Coober Pedy, Opal Mining and More
We head further north to Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world. You will be amazed by the changing landscapes and keep an eye out for kangaroos, eagles, emus and other wildlife as we pass the symbolic road trains of Australia. We enjoy a tour of Coober Pedy, we learn about the local indigenous people and also check out many of the underground opal shops. We noodle for opals and visit Josephine's kangaroo orphanage where you meet rescued kangaroos and joeys. We sleep like the locals, in an underground bunkhouse.
Day 3 : Coober Pedy, Kings Canyon and beyond
Today is our longest day of driving as we head across the border into the Northern Territory. We have one mission, that is to make it to Kings Canyon before the sunset. We'll then settle at the campground for the night
Day 4 : Uluru Sunrise, Uluru Base Walk and More
We spend at Uluru. We start the day with a guided base walk we learn about the indigenous culture and history at the cultural centre, we hike through the acacia woodlands and grassy clay pans and spot wildlife at waterholes at the base of Uluru. We finish off the day with a campfire, another Uluru sunset and time to share our stories and experiences.
Day 5 : The Olgas, Bushwalking and Beyond
We head to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). It is time to trek in the wilderness through the majestic Valley of the Winds with it's ancient rock formations and views. The hike is around 3.5 hours and can be challenging with steep sections, but it is well worth it. After lunch we head for Alice Springs, arriving at around 6:30pm. An awesome 6 day adventure. - Drop off at Uluru possible
Day 6 : Kings Canyon, Rim Walk and Uluru
Our adventure starts with a scrumptious breakfast before we head into Watarrka (Kings Canyon). We hike to the look outs, admire the sandstone walls and the views over the canyon floor. On the Canyon Rim walk (3-4 hours) we experience the amazing "Garden of Eden" and learn more about the Aboriginal culture of the region before hitting the road to arrive at Uluru before sunset.
