The moorland is dotted with lobelia and ericas as the forest thins out. Go past Shira Ridge and reach Shira Camp 1 after four to five hours. While you enjoy the view of Mount Meru and the Rift Valley during your Kilimanjaro adventure, take a lunch break. Climb 250 meters higher over the course of the next three hours. Day 3 : Shira Camp 2 Campsite to Barranco
The third day of the six-day Kilimanjaro climb will likely involve a hike of about eight hundred meters. This gets you ready for the 4,500-meter climb that takes place over the next two days. Get ready for a challenging climb up the Lava Tower towards the Shira Plateau. We'll follow a ridge that heads southeast, passing through an afro-alpine desert with limited vegetation before arriving at the "Shark's Tooth" lava tower.
We'll come to another crossroads after the tower that leads to 16,000-foot Arrow Glacier. From there, we'll descend into the vast Barranco Valley, which is dotted with imposing lobelia and senecio plants. You will arrive at the scenic Barranco Camp, which is known as the mountain's most exquisite campsite, after a 6- to 7-hour hike.
