Located in North-east India, Meghalaya, also known as the Abode of Clouds, falls in one of the richest biodiversity areas in the world. The famed monsoons, the rich traditional festivals, and the dramatic terrain are just some of the many things this state is famous for. Whether you are looking for an adventure to give you an adrenaline high or a tranquil spot to recharge yourself, Meghalaya has plenty to offer.
Day 1 : Arrival Guwahati - to Shillong (120 km / approx. 3 hours drive)
You are picked up from the Airport and after breakfast, you proceed to Shillong. Shillong became the first capital of the State of Meghalaya. Located in undulating pine-covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. The city centre is 1496 m above sea level and currently has a population of around 270,000. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as the Scotland of the East. We stop to visit the Umiam Lake also known as 'Bara Pani' which is a vast and scenic reservoir surrounded by lush green hills. It is also a popular destination for water sports. On arrival, check in to the hotel in Shillong. Visit Police Bazar and stroll in the heart of the City. Overnight stay in Shillong.
Day 2 : Shillong - Cherrapunjee (60 km /approx. 2 hours drive )
After a hearty breakfast, drive to Cherrapunjee (4,400 ft.) the wettest place in the world. Later in the afternoon, proceed on a city tour of Cherrapunjee. We visit the beautiful and the tallest plunge waterfall in India known as Nohkalikai Falls. Enjoy the sight of water rushing down from 1,100 feet through the green forest into a deep waterhole that has unusually blue water like a lagoon. A short trek through some of the amazing terrain and watching a great variety of birds as we reach the entrance of Mawsmai Caves. These limestone caves have the distinction of being the only cave in Meghalaya that is lit enough to enable visitors to explore the natural formations in awe. Then, visit the Seven Sister Falls also known as 'Nohsngithiang Falls' is a seven segmented waterfall that plunges over the top of a limestone cliff. The view is spectacular which leaves one spellbound. Lastly, visit Elephant Falls for some breathtaking views. A British officer named this falls owing to the presence of an elephant-shaped rock on one side of the falls. This rock was later destroyed due to an earthquake. At Elephanta Falls, one can get very close and enjoy its serenity. Sight Seeing options in Cherrapunjee are-1. Mawsmai Cave & Eco-park. 2. Seven sister falls 3. NohKaLikai Falls 4. Daiathlen Falls, 5. Awrah cave 6. Wakaba Falls, 7. Garden of caves. You have the option of caving in Mawmluh Cave with an experienced guide (Rs.8000.00 for 3 PAX-4 to 5 Hours). Overnight stay in Cherrapunjee.
Day 3 : Option 1-Cherrapunjee- Mawlynnong -Dawki OR Option 2 - Double Root Bridge trek
Option 1- After breakfast, you start early and visit the single-decker root bridge on the way to Dawki. Then we proceed to Shonongpdeng in Dwaki (Umangot) the crystal clear river and see the border of Bangladesh. Check-in at the Resort for an overnight stay in Shonongpdeng. OR Option
2- Arrive at Tyrna village (in Cherrapunjee), the base point for the Living Root Bridge trek to the double-decker bridge early. Go down the 3.5 km path with your team guide through the jungle. Drink water and try some local lime juice on the way. Proceed for the Living Root Bridge trek in the
jungle. Cross many more living root bridges and a few hanging bridges to reach rainbow falls. You will be trekking for approximately 2 hours one way. Start climbing back up around. The steep climb to reach the parking spot on the well is time taking. Reach the top of the stairs and depart. Stay at Cherrapunjee.
Day 4 : Option 1 - Fun day in Dawki OR Option 2 _Cherrapunjee- Mawlynnong -Dawki
Option 1 - After breakfast, you can enjoy the boat ride or Kayaking 5 Kms away from the river in the crystal clear water of the Dawki river and enjoy the beauty of nature. On the way, you also visit the single-decker root bridge. Water Activities: Boating @500 per boat(Capacity 5people),
Kayaking @300 per head, Cliff jumping @300 per head, Zip lining @300 per head, Snorkelling @500 per head. Overnight stay in Dawki. OR Option 2 - After breakfast, you start early and visit the single-decker root bridge on the way to Dawki. Then we proceed to Shonongpdeng in Dawki
(Umangot) the crystal clear river and see the border of Bangladesh. Check-in at the Resort for an overnight stay in Shonongpdeng.
Day 5 : Dawki to Jowai & Laitlum Canyon ( 55 Km to & fro/ 1.50 hrs approx)
Today after breakfast you visit a very uncommon trail in Jowai and visit one of the most beautiful parts of Meghalaya, especially the Karngsuri waterfall. Places to visit in Jowai are 1. Laitlum canyon 2. Elephant Falls 3. Shilong Peak 4. Mawphlang Sacred Grove 5. Jowai, Karngsuri waterfall (swimming is possible in the waterfall pool). After the tour return back to Shillong for an overnight stay.
Day 6 : Shillong Sight & Guwahati (120 km / approx. 3 hours drive)
After breakfast check out from Hotel and enjoy a local sightseeing tour of Shillong, ‘Scotland of the East. We will be visiting Cathedral Church, Lady Hydari Park, the Orchidarium, Elephant Falls 7 the Golf course. Thereafter, we will drive to the Shillong peak to enjoy a splendid view of Shillong. In the evening you proceed back to Guwahati for an overnight stay. On reaching check-in at the guest house and rest for the day.
Day 7 : Guwahati Sightseeing and Departure
Today after breakfast you visit the famous Maa Kamakhya Temple and offer Puja. After puja, you visit either Bashishta Ashram or Maa Umananda Temple in the middle of Brahmaputra. You have to board a ferry for the Umananda Temple visit and ferry charges are not included in the package. After the tour, you are dropped at the railway station for your forward journey End Of the Tour.
