Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 :

We shall collect you from Kampala (or Entebbe) and head to Fort Portal town nestled in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains where you’ll stopover for a meal. We shall then drive to Kibale Forest National Park where you will be met by our friendly guide; who will take you on your walk through Bigodi Swamp, a RAMSAR site. Your guide will be able to identify the local flora and fauna as well as the eight species of monkey including red colobus monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey’s, L’Hoest monkeys, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, and perhaps the occasional chimpanzee.
The driver guide will then take you to your accommodation on the edge of the forest overlooking a tea plantation.Accommodation: Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse

Meal Plan: (Lunch) Café in Fort Portal (Dinner) Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse

  • Day 2 :

Spend a full day with man’s closest living relative in Kibale Forest National Park. You’ll need to beat the chimps out of bed to get there in time to watch them descend from their night time nests between 6am and 6:30am. Watch their natural behaviour the wild as they feed, hunt, nurse their young, relax, patrol and display their prowess. Before watching them weave their nests before they fall asleep at around 7pm.
When you meet our knowledgeable and experienced guides you’ll be given an orientation on chimpanzees and be accompanied at all times. We’ll also make sure that you have a tasty packed lunch with you to keep your energy up. After the trekking you’ll be taken back to your accommodation so you can relax and watch the sunset as you’re served up a hearty meal.

    Accommodation: Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse

  • Day 3 :

You’ll leave Kibale Forest National Park at 9am and drive through the Ndali – Kasenda crater lake fields en route to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The crater lakes were formed by the volcanic explosions from the creation of the Rwenzori Mountain range, which you’ll follow across the equator and into Queen Elizabeth National Park.
In the afternoon you’ll enter Kyambura Gorge, which contains its own rainforest ecosystem to track the local population of chimpanzees, featured in the 2010 BBC documentary, ‘Chimps of the Lost Gorge’. Your knowledgeable guide will take you through the forest paths to find these noisy and elusive creatures as well as be able to identify other notable species such as a variety of monkeys, bird-life and fauna.
Alternatively, you can take a game drive on the Kasenyi plains to try and seek out lions, leopards and elephants along with other big game.
You’ll then be taken to your lodge on the banks of the Kazinga Channel in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Don’t be surprised if you hear the lions roaring or some ‘visitors’ wander into camp in the night! Don’t worry you’re perfectly safe.

  • Day 4 :

You’ll meet a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide to maximize your chances of finding them relaxing in the cool shade away from the heat of the day. You’ll also get the chance to see elephants, game herds and if you’re lucky, an elusive leopard.
In the early afternoon you’ll exit the park and start the winding drive south into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park with views over the plains, rainforests and mountains ready for your gorilla trekking experience the next day.

    Accommodation: Mahogany Springs Lodge

Meal Plan: (Breakfast) Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge (Picnic Lunch) Queen Elizabeth Bush Lodge (Dinner) Mahogany Springs Lodge

  • Day 5 :

On this day, you’ll meet your Uganda Wildlife Authority Guide bright and early, who will guide you through the impenetrable forest to be given an orientation on trekking the gorillas. The guides will be able to identify and explain the local plants, birds and wildlife as well the general ecosystem of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The length of the trek to find the gorillas can vary depending on where they have spent the night and can range from thirty minutes to six hours.
Once you find these incredible creatures you will spend one hour with the family. This limit is for the gorilla’s protection as they can contract many of the same simple infections such as the common cold that we carry, but can prove very problematic for them, as they have no natural immunity. You’ll then make the return trek to your lodge where you’ll spend the rest of the day relaxing with views over the rainforest.

    Accommodation: Mahogany Springs Lodge

Meal Plan: (Breakfast) Mahogany Springs Lodge (Picnic Lunch) Mahogany Springs Lodge (Dinner) Mahogany Springs Lodge

  • Day 6 :

Today you’ll drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, deep down in Uganda by the Rwanda border to Mt. Sabyinyo, Mt. Gahinga and Mt. Muhavura. The regions most striking features are its three conical, extinct volcanoes, which tower over the landscape. Here you will track the illusive golden monkey. You will hike through a bamboo forest and former farmland, which is now, a reclaimed national parkland. If the weather is clear and the golden monkeys are well positioned (we can not promise this!), you might glimpse a spectacular view over the Virunga volcano range on the horizon. You will spend an hour viewing the monkeys, watching these unique primates play and swing from the trees. Please note that this activity can sometimes, although not often be cancelled due to weather conditions at short notice.
For your final night on tour, spoil yourself with a night at the luxurious Mt. Gahinga Lodge, camouflaged in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains with a panoramic backdrop of the Virunga volcanoes.

    Accommodation: Mount Gahinga Lodge

Meal Plan: (Breakfast) Mahogany Springs Lodge (Picnic Lunch) Mahogany Springs Lodge (Dinner) Mahogany Springs Lodge

  • Day 7 :

You’ll be setting off early from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to make the 9-hour drive back to Kampala. So settle back and enjoy the ride as you descend from the highlands of Uganda back down to the plains and plantations by Lake Victoria. You’ll stop off for your picnic lunch and at the equator as well as any roadside markets you might like to explore along the way. Look out for zebra’s as you pass Lake Mburo National Park. You’ll arrive back at your drop off point in Kampala (or Entebbe) by early evening.

Meal Plan: Day 8 – (Breakfast) Mount Gahinga Lodge (Picnic Lunch) Mount Gahinga Lodge
