Day 1 : Nairobi – Samburu
We will pick you up from your Nairobi Hotel at 0800hrs and thereafter depart for Samburu Game Reserve via Thompson Falls, which are named after Joseph Thompson, one of the first European explorers who walked from Mombasa to Lake Victoria in the 1880’s. Samburu Game Reserve lies in the Kenya’s semi-arid, rugged central region about 215 miles north of Nairobi. Arrive in time for lunch and thereafter proceed for an afternoon game drive in this pristine, unequalled ‘peculiar game country’. Dinner and overnight is at The Campsite.
Day 2 : Samburu
Breakfast. Then morning and afternoon game drives in Samburu with a lunch and leisure break at the Campsite in mid afternoon. Samburu is north of the equator and contains rare, drought resistant animal species, which go for long periods of time without water. These include the reticulated giraffe, grevy’s zebra, the blue-shanked Somali ostrich, the gerenuk (giraffe gazelle) and the beisa oryx. In the late afternoon (at an extra cost), go for optional activities like having a nature walk, visiting Samburu villages to see the nomadic lifestyle or swimming in the nearby lodges. Rest of meals and overnight is at The Campsite.
Day 3 : Samburu - Nakuru
After breakfast, depart Samburu for Lake Nakuru National Park. Have lunch enroute. You will enjoy the journey with scenic views of Mount Kenya’s peak if the weather permits. Very pleasant countryside with tea and coffee plantations will be by-passed enroute to Nakuru. Arrive in the early afternoon for check-in at a Lodge and a game-drive in this phenominal National Park. Dinner and overnight is at The Campsite.
Day 4 : Nakuru - Naivasha
After breakfast a morning game drive will follow in Lake Nakuru National Park, the abode of various water birds that breed in the lake’s salty water including flamingos, white pelicans and marabou stork; white rhino may be seen as well as the rare Rothschild’s giraffe, cape buffalo and other plains game in this park that is 188 square kilometres. After lunch you depart for Naivasha Town where you arrive for check-in at a Lodge. The nearby Lake Naivasha, the highest lake in the Rift Valley, is famous for being used as a staging post in the 1930’s for The Imperial Airways Flying Boat Services from Durban to London.
You will then have a boat ride among the lake’s hippo families and spectacular bird-life showcase up to the Crescent Island where you will experience an unforgettable on-foot game tracking. Dinner and overnight is at The Campsite.
Day 5 : Naivasha – Mara
After breakfast, depart Naivasha for Masai Mara Game Reserve arriving in time for check-in, lunch and a short rest at a Lodge. You then proceed for a late afternoon game drive. The Masai Mara is famous for it’s wildlife concentration and abundance that is second to none in the region. Elephant, lion and buffalo can be seen with relative ease though luck is a necessary factor for spotting rhino and leopard that complete the big five as the two animals are very timid and sparsely numbered. Dinner and overnight is at The Lodge.
Day 6 : Masai Mara
After breakfast, a full day of tracking game with your guide in this Reserve which forms the same eco-system with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and is the annual seasonal scene of the migration of close to 800,000 zebra and wildebeest that occurs between the two Parks. The Mara’s landscape is scenic savannah grassland on rolling hills, which enables the Reserve to attract sufficient rainfall to maintain and support a large population of herbivores, together with the predators that follow. Beside The Big Five, plains game like wildebeest, zebra and maasai giraffe abound as well as hippos and a wide variety of antelopes including impala, dik dik, hartebeest, Grant’s gazelle and Thompson’s gazelle among others. We will cater for a picnic lunch at the Hippo Pool.
In the afternoon there is a choice between a game drive and a nature walk escorted by our armed Maasai guides. At an extra cost, you may visit a local Maasai village to see their nomadic lifestyle; the Maasai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years. In the evening, return to The Campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7 : Masai Mara – Nairobi
After breakfast, leave Masai Mara for Nairobi with lunch enroute, with scenic views of Mount Longonot which is in the Great Rift from afar on the main highway. You will have a stop over at the Rift Valley View Point and arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon/evening.
