After breakfast we will head off for an 8am rendezvous at Kibale Forest National Park headquarters. Kibale Forest is an impressive rainforest and sectors have the highest rainfall in Uganda. At the park headquarters the rangers will give you a trek briefing before we head off to find our closest living relative.
The average weight of an adult well grown male chimpanzee is between 35 and 70 kilograms, with a height of approximately 3 meters whereas tan adult female chimpanzee weighs between 26 and 50 kilograms and a height between 2 and 4 feet.
A chimpanzee’s life expectancy is at 40 years whereas that for those living in captivity can extend up to 60 years.
In Uganda today, Efforts to actually conserve the chimpanzees are extensively acknowledged and well supported. Actually, The Jane Goodall Foundation has played a major role in the overall conservation of not only these Chimpanzees but the Gorillas as well found in Uganda.
Chimpanzees are the closest relatives to humans sharing about 98% of their DNA composition with humans. They are Sociable, intelligent as well as communicative and among their very fascinating traits is the ability to utilize tools like rocks for crushing nuts, empty pods for hollowing out water plus sticks for capturing termites from their holes. These skills are for long been passed on from generation to another and researchers say that different troops have specialist tasks, basing on their habitat as well as diet.
Chimps stay in groups of 10 – 100 members. They can babysit each other’s young, kiss, groom one another and even hold hands. The young chimps become independent at the age of 4 year. Nonetheless, chimps can be aggressive and unsociable, mainly if disturbed.
Although they spend some time on ground, they normally feed and do make their sleeping nests up in the trees. Their diet varies comprising of leaves, seeds, fruit plus flowers.
You will most likely finish just before midday as we take you back to your lodge for a freshen up and lunch before transferring you to Queen Elizabeth National Park via a game drive in the Kassese Sector.
In the late afternoon we arrive at Kazinga Channel for a Boat Safari. Kazinga is thought to have the highest concentration of hippos in Africa and you will easily spot crocodiles, water buffalo and many species of birds. Elephants often come to the channel for a drink as well if you are lucky. This is wall to wall wildlife from a whole different perspective. Enjoy a drink as we return watching the sun go down on a magnificent day.
It’s only a thirty minutes transfer to your accommodation of choice and a warm dinner and overnight.

  • Day 3 : Queen Elizabeth Game Drive – Kasenyi and Kyambura Sectors

After breakfast, have your packed lunch and embark on a game viewing in Kasenyi plains which will reward you with sightings of the various animals like huge herds of Uganda cobs, elephants, lions, hippos, and warthog.
Have your packed lunch in route, and continue with the afternoon game view including a return game drive in the Kyambura Sector. Queen Elizabeth National Park is an Elephant lover’s dream and we are sure you will have plenty of close encounters. For the extremely lucky you might even catch a sight of the impressive but very shy leopard.
Return to the lodge and enjoy the beautiful sunset at your balcony, dinner and overnight at your accommodation of choice.

  • Day 4 : Transfer to the Southern Ishasha Sector Via a Game Drive Through Maramagambo Forest and Kigezi Wildl

Keep your eyes open for Hyenas, Buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, Leopard and Elephants, as well as the elusive Forest Hog.
Once you reach Ishasha check in to accommodation of choice to refresh, have dinner and overnight.

  • Day 5 : Game Drive and Tree-climbing Lions Experience. Afternoon Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

After breakfast your driver guide will take you through Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishasha Sector.
Ishasha is only one of two places in the world where tree-climbing lions are found, the other being in Lake Manyara. Whilst all lions can climb trees these two prides are the only ones found to spend a majority of their time in trees. Seeing tree-climbing lions is usually a 50/50 chance but we guarantee seeing them as we organize an experience that includes the park tracking system and expert doctor.
Ishasha is also home to great population of Topis, not found anywhere else in this National Park. On the river you may spot hippos and the Ugandan national bird the Crested Crane. Lunch at your lodge before we transfer to a whole new ecosystem of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest only around 90 minutes’ drive away.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation of choice in Buhoma, Bwindi.

  • Day 6 : Rare Mountain Gorilla Trek

After breakfast we head off for a 10-minute drive to the Uganda Wildlife Authority Bwindi Park Headquarters. The early morning briefing starts at 8am and hear the rangers will give you information on the trek, gorilla behavior and rules. Then you head off in to the Impenetrable Forest in search of these magnificent beasts. The advanced tracking group give your guides an indication of where the gorillas where located last night, however these creatures constantly move in search of food so the trek can take 2-6 hours in total.
When you come across the Gorillas you will sense the excitement as you get to spend and hour with the troop you have come across. It is often described as one of the great natural animal encounters on the planet. There are only around 1000 Mountain Gorillas left in the world and Bwindi has almost 1/3 of them.
They will entertain you with performances for about1hour and your guide can explain their behavior, language and relationships.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation of choice.

  • Day 7 : Batwa Experience. Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.

Have a most enjoyable breakfast regaling your stories and encounter with the Mountain Gorillas. After breakfast we head off to meet the Batwa. The Batwa are the original inhabitants of these forests, however today they are a displaced minority since the early 1990’s. This cultural tour is a re-enactment but a very real one as many members still recall living as forest dwellers and these tours now help them earn income, ensure their traditions and skills are practiced as well as pass on these traditions to the next generation. Their bush skills are a delight and their small stature will amaze. Thought to be an adaptation over thousands of years to living and moving in the thick rainforest conditions.
After the Batwa we will head off for Lake Mburo National Park. Arriving for a late lunch we will then check in and refresh before heading out for an afternoon game drive.
Lake Mburo will amaze you with it’s density of animals especially Kob, Waterbuck, Zebra’s and more. This is because there are hardly any predators at Lake Mburo and the other animal populations are thriving. This is your chance to spot the Rothschild Giraffes recently re-introduced to Lake Mburo.
Dinner and overnight at your accommodation of choice

  • Day 8 : Game Drive Lake Mburo. Transfer to Entebbe to Connect with Your Evening Flight.

After breakfast why not try one of the different kind of safaris the Lake Mburo offer. Because of their low predator count you can do Horse Riding Safaris, Walking Safaris, Bike Riding Safaris or a Boat Safari and get up close the birdlife and hippos. Or you can take a traditional game drive in your 4WD, the choice is yours as you have almost a full day before we leave at 4pm to get back to Entebbe by 8pm in plenty of time for your International Flight connection in the late evening.
