Day 1 : Arrival - Beirut
Upon arrival at Beirut, check into the hotel. You have the remainder of the evening and night for relaxation. Dinner and overnight at the hotel
Day 2 : Beirut
After breakfast, depart for a full city tour of Beirut. Visit the Martyr's Square which is at the heart of the downtown district of Beirut. The Square has a central statue which commemorates Lebanese nationalists who were hung during World War I by the Ottomans. Also right by the Square is a really famous shopping centre Souk El Barghout. Also pay a visit to archaeological sites in the capital. Explore the Mosquee Al Omari which is one of the most fascinating spaces in Beirut. One of Beirut's most important mosques, Al-Omari is named after the second Caliph, Omar ibn al-Khattab, under whose leadership Beirut was conquered by Moslem armies in 635 AD. Also see magnificent churches such as the Greek Catholic Cathedral of St.Elias which is a mid 19th century Greek-Catholic church with its vaulted interior was once decorated with a marble iconostasis and also the Cathedral of Saint Georges which is the oldest Greek-Orthodox church in Beirut built in 1767. Also explore the Roman Baths in Beirut whose remains once served Beirut’s population. You will also see the Grand Serail which served as the Ottomans’ military barracks and also The Ottomans’ Clock Tower. Finally, take a short drive to Al Saifi Village which is the region’s hottest area for arts and galleries; and also the Sursock/Gemmayzeh area and attractions include the Sursock museum. Characterized by its narrow streets and historic buildings dating from the French era, this bohemian quarter hosts yearly artistic events and exhibitions and is known for its numerous pubs, bars, restaurants and lounges. Transfer to the hotel in Beirut. Overnight at the hotel
Day 3 : Bekaa and Baalbek
After breakfast, depart on a two hour drive to the Bekaa which is a vast, open valley nestled in the east between Lebanon’s two mountain ranges and is the “bread basket of Lebanon.” The valley is a checkerboard of fields, dotted with small villages – a testament of the region’s agricultural heritage. Visit the famous Ksara’s winery (Chateau Ksara) Starting out in 1857 by the local members of the Christian community, Ksara developed the first dry wine in Lebanon. Also visit the Roman Temples of Baalbek (Temple of Jupiter, Temple of Venus and Temple of Bacchus) which are among the best preserved since the time. Also see the ancient city of Anjar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose ruins reveal a very regular layout, reminiscent of the palace-cities of ancient times, and are a unique testimony to city planning under the Umayyads. Transfer back to the hotel in Beirut. Overnight at the hotel
Day 4 : Jeita - Jounieh - Byblos
After your breakfast at the hotel in Beirut, leave for Nahr El Kalb, an ancient Lycus river and get enchanted by the monuments built along the mouth of the river along the coastal highway. Close to the Nahr El Kalb is the Jeita Grotto. Explore Jeita Grotto which is a magnificently built compound of crystallized caves. Continue on to Jounieh and break for lunch. Jounieh is an excellent coastal city with numerous attractions and also water sport facilities. Soar to new heights at Jounieh and take the cable car to get spectacular views of the Jounieh Bay. Then hit the road again for the short drive to Byblos. Transfer to the hotel in Byblos. Byblos is a UNESCO world heritage site. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Byblos
Day 5 : Zgharta - Bcharreh - Batroun - Byblos
After early breakfast at the hotel, drive to Zgharta and the highlands to enjoy the wilderness passing by Ehden, Hawqa, Blawza, Hadshit and Bcharreh. Visit Gebran Khalil Gebran Museum close to Bcharreh. Then after lunch, visit the exotic Cedars forest and indulge in the beauty of the forests at Mt. Makmal (about 5 mi/10 km east of Bcharreh). At 6000 ft/1800 m above sea level (take along a sweater) a cluster of large old cedars survive. On the way back, pass through Hasroun, Tourza, Kousba, Amioun and Batroun. Transfer to Hotel in Byblos. Dinner and overnight at the hotel
Day 6 : Byblos - Sidon - Adloun - Beirut
After breakfast, depart for the drive back down south. En route, visit Sidon which is rich with historical events and see the sea castle which is a major witness of Sidon’s history and was built by the crusaders. The castle offers breath taking views of the harbour and the city. Also see the Khan El Franj a typical khan with a large rectangular courtyard and a central fountain surrounded by covered galleries. Next on your attraction list is the Murex Hill which is an artificial hill (100 meters long and 50 meters high) was formed by the accumulation of refuse from the purple dye factories of Phoenician times. Visit Tyre which have the ruins of the Bass District on the Mainland and juts out on to the Mediterrannean. The Crusader Cathedral is another must-see sight which you will be taken to. After lunch, drive to Adloun and visit the prehistoric caves, two of which were discovered during the late 19th century. Archaeological digs in one of the caves, Mgharet el Bzez, uncovered human remains from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic eras and also see the Necropolis in Adloun. Drive back to the capital and transfer to the hotel in Beirut in the evening. Depart to Beirut airport to catch your flight back home.
