Day 1 : Nakhal - Wadi Bani Awf - Jebel Shams
Itinerary : Pick up 8.30 a.m. The day will start with a visit to Nakhal Fort. This 17th Century Fort has some stunning views from the battlements. It highlights the prime position this fort used to command and is really worth the climb. Next you will travel to Wadi Bani Awf taking a stunning and exhilarating trip over the mountains. Deep in Oman’s countryside are many villages that still retain their traditional charm. Perhaps the most appealing of these is Bilad Sayt, a tranquil hamlet tucked away in the mountains. The road, or should I say track, is steep but worth the trip. Your next stop will be, Misfat Al Abreen, set in a stunning landscape above terraced plantations of date palms. This is a rare sight in Oman as most palms are grown on the plains. The ancient houses and ruined watchtower perched on the mountain complete the scene. Continue your journey to the top of Jebel Shams, “Sun Mountain”, Oman’s highest peak at 3009 meters. The cooler temperatures will surprise as you reach the top to get a spectacular view of the “Grand Canyon”. Sleeping in high altitude will get you closer to the stars. Overnight at Jebel Shams resort.
Day 2 : Jebel Shams - Nizwa - Muscat
Itinerary : After breakfast you will visit the historic city of Nizwa, the cultural capital of Oman. Its main places of interest are the lively traditional Souq and the spectacular Fort with its massive Circular Cannon Tower, one of the most impressive forts in Oman. You will also visit the Nizwa traditional Souq. The Souq is a lively place and an ideal location to purchase handicrafts and souvenirs. After completing your Souq experience you will proceed to Jabreen Palace/Castle where the visitor is able to capture the medieval atmosphere and view the beautiful hand painted ceilings and carved door frames. After this you will start your journey back to Muscat calling at Bahla one of the oldest small towns of Oman and in the 12th century the capital of the tribe living in the region. After an impressive cultural day it will time to travel back to your hotel. Lunch will be served en route back to Muscat.
