Fantastic Tour of Southern Malawi staying in beautiful lodges along Lake Malawi. Malawi is an up and coming tourist destination and this tour offers a great insight into this beautiful country, the amazing people and stunning wildlife.
Day 1 : Game Haven
You will be greeted on arrival at Lilongwe Airport, and from here it is a 4 hr drive via Dedza and Blantyre to Thyolo tea estate area. Game Haven is a serene, beautiful game park and lodge set in the indigenous forests and grasslands of the Shire highlands of Southern Malawi. You will experience exceptional viewing of the wildlife which include kudu, roan, eland, sable, giraffe, zebra, and a prolific birdlife. Relax in this tranquil setting where there are 5 private cottages with a fireplace that warms the spacious lounge and leads onto the verandah with exceptional views. There is also a choice of 20 rustic ensuite rooms. As part of the unique Game Haven experience, enjoy the internationally designed Matkovich & Hayes 9 hole golf course, beautiful but challenging; You should be sure to enjoy the relaxing sound of the cascading waterfall at the swimming pool and fishing and braaing on the scenic lawns of Lake Bvumbwe. As the sun sets, enjoy a drink in the Victorian styled bar followed by exceptional international cuisine at the Ambrosia restaurant.
Day 2 : Game Haven (FB)
Today you explore the local area. From Game haven its a short 30 min drive to Satemwa estate. On arrival you will undertake an hour walking tour of the estate, followed by a tea tasting workshop starting at 10.30 am. Satemwa produce a variety of white, black, gold and flavoured teas. After the tasting [allow 1 and half hours] return to the luxurious Huntingdon House where you will have a superb lunch in the beautiful established gardens or in the beautiful colonial house. After lunch its a short drive up into the estate, up Thyolo mountain to a wonderful picnic site with excellent views of the estate and the lower shire valley, should weather permit. For keen birders the forest surrounding this picnic site is home to the rare and endemic Thyolo Alethe.
Day 3 : Mvuu Camp
Today you will drive 3 hrs. via Zomba to Liwonde Park. Mvuu Camp is sited on the banks of the Shire river and has spacious 7 X twin and 5 X family chalets for a maximum of 34 guests. There’s a restaurant, a camping site, children’s playground and large swimming pool. Game viewing is available in safari 4x4 vehicles, on foot or a boat safari. The river safaris are a wonderful way of viewing the exceptionally large schools of hippo that live in the Shire and of seeing the great herds of elephant which come to drink and bathe. The unspoilt nature on Liwonde National Park is one of its great attractions. There is a great range of wildlife to see including rare black rhino and some really large crocodiles in the river. For birdwatchers, Liwonde is a ‘must visit’ game park. Over 400 species have been recorded. Afternoon / evening game drive included.
Day 4 : Mvuu Camp
Today you can opt for a morning and afternoon game drive, boat safari or game walk.
Day 5 : Blue Zebra
After breakfast, depart Liwonde then drive for 3 hrs. to Salima. On arrival, your boat transfer to Blue Zebra is at midday. The lodge is tucked into the corner of Nankoma island, part of the Marelli Island Archipelago, in Lake Malawi National Park. Blue Zebra Island Lodge offers 8 high-standards Lakeview tented ensuite chalets in a unspoiled environment surrounded by nature and luxury. The Island is only 3km away from the shore, transfer is a scenic boat ride that takes you down the last stretch of Linthipe River and out into Lake Malawi. The restaurant offers a choice of 3 menus everyday with vegetarian options and the Fig Tree Pool Bar offers a large range of drinks and homemade cocktails. The facilities available are a pool, a volley ball ground, a conference room and several comfortable and secluded lounges to chill or to admire Lake Malawi's glorious sunsets. Activities included on site are snorkeling (from Nankoma Island), kayaking, birdwatching, nature trail up to the top of the island and a boat ride around Nankoma Island to watch cormorant colonies and fish eagles. Scuba diving, windsurfing and wakeboarding are available at additional costs.
Day 6 : Blue Zebra
Day at leisure on the island - all non motorized watersport activities included. Overnight lodge on all inclusive basis.
Day 7 : Lilongwe
Transfer from the island is at 11am and then it’s a 2 hr return road transfer back to Lilongwe and the end of your safari.
