Day 1 : Arrive Aurangabad - Ellora
Morning arrive Aurangabad Railway station / Airport Pick up & transfer to Hotel. Fresh up Later if time permit visit Also visit truly magnificent hilltop fortress of Daulatabad, about 15km away from town en route to Ellora, which sits atop a 200m-high craggy outcrop known as Devagiri (Hill of the Gods). A 5km battlement surrounds this ancient fort, a most beguiling structure built by the Yadava kings through the 12th century and originally conceived as an impregnable fort.
In 1328, it was renamed Daulatabad, the City of Fortune, by Delhi sultan Mohammed Tughlaq, who decided to shift his kingdom’s capital to this citadel from Delhi. Known for his eccentric ways, Tughlaq even marched the entire population of Delhi 1100km south to populate it. Ironically, Daulatabad – despite being better positioned strategically than Delhi – soon proved untenable as a capital due to an acute water crisis and Tughlaq forced its weary inhabitants to slope all the way back to Delhi, which had by then been reduced to a ghost town.
The climb to the summit takes about an hour, and leads past an ingenious series of defences, including multiple doorways designed with odd angles and spike-studded doors to prevent elephant charges.
Later visit Chand Minar Daulatabad in Aurangabad is a 2nd tallest individual minaret in India. Built in pinkish colored bricks, it displays a splendid architectural style!
Also visit Bibi-qa-Maqbara, a Taj Mahal replica, - This marvelous mausoleum built in the memory of “Rabia-Ud-Daurani” AKA “Dilras Banu Begum”. She was the 1st wife of 6th Mughal Emperor of India “Aurangzeb”. Of the many historical buildings that Aurangzeb has built in his life, but this is the most famous and beautiful. During Mughal rule, this beautiful tomb was the heart of the city of Aurangzeb. It was constructed between 1651 and 1661 CE. The marble used in the tomb was brought from the mine near Jaipur. According to historians, more than 150 vehicles were used to bring the marble from Surat to Golconda. According to historian Ghulam Mustafa’s composition “Tarikh Nama”, Overnight at Hotel.
Day 2 : Ellora - Ellora Cave
Morning after breakfast visit Ellora The Unesco World Heritage Site Ellora cave temples, located 30km from Aurangabad, and you’ll know exactly what we mean. The epitome of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture, these caves were chipped out laboriously over five centuries by generations of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monks. Monasteries, chapels, temples – the caves served every purpose and they were stylishly embellished with a profusion of remarkably detailed sculptures. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 3 : Ajanta Cave - Aurangabad Departure
Morning after breakfast check out hotel visit Ajanta’s caves line a steep face of a horseshoe-shaped gorge bordering the Waghore River. Five of the caves are chaityas while others are viharas. Caves 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and part of 15 are early Buddhist caves, while the others date from around the 5th century AD (Mahayana period). In the austere early Buddhist school, the Buddha was never represented directly but always alluded to by a symbol such as the footprint or wheel of law.
During busy periods, viewers are allotted 15 minutes within the caves, which have to be entered barefoot (socks/shoe covers allowed; flip-flops will make your life a lot easier). Caves 3, 5, 8, 22, 28, 29 and 30 remain either closed or inaccessible. Later after visiting accordingly you flight / train departure transfer to airport / railway station for onward Journey.
