Ali Bedni Bugyal trek is ideal for beginners. You can even consider it as a pre-trek to get used to the rigors of high mountain hiking. Almost like an appetizer. It does not have difficult or technical sections, but a few sections on the trek can be challenging.
Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti at their best. They stick out. By standing out, I mean you see their whole face, like the whole 6,000-7,000 feet of Mt Trishul right in front of you. Imagine the magnificence of the sunset.

The surprise when you find yourself in Ali Bugyal after walking through dense forests is unbeatable. The moment you step out of the shadows of the forest cover, you see acres and acres of green carpet spread out before you. The Trishul mountain stands tall against the blue sky and creates an imposing backdrop. Horses and their foals tear uninhibitedly across the lawn while cattle graze lazily on this bounty.

The walk to Bedni Bugyal from here is exciting! It is a walk that tempts you to take off your shoes and feel this carpet for yourself. Bedni Bugyal is the next stop in this meadow landscape – a strip of vibrant greenery overlooking the western valley. The Trishul and Nanda Ghunti mountains jut out directly from this meadow-like sentient and silent sentinel. If you climb Bedni Top, other high-rise buildings of the imposing Chaukhamba range will open before you. These incredible settings make these twins an unavoidable part of the tourist bucket list.
The oak and rhododendron forests on the Ali-Bedni Bugyal trek are the thickest I have walked. They may also be the rarest, as most of these trees are well over a thousand years old. Sunlight falling from spectacular angles. It is a photographer's delight to capture these sun rays falling through the leaves at charming angles. It creates wonderful lighting.
Ali Bedni trek has slightly longer trekking days and has steep ascents and descents. So it is rated as a level 2 moderate trek as it requires good endurance.

Coming to the details, this 5 day trek climbs from 7,550 feet to 12,550 feet. That's almost 5,000 feet of elevation gain. This climb is one of the main challenges of the trek. You have never seen such wonderful views on any trek. Forget any trek across the meadow.

The spring season is about to end on the Ali-Bedni Bugyal trek. Green meadows will soon start peeking out from under the snow. The Winter in this meadow is also mesmerizing.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1 : Dehradun to Wan

Drive Duration: 9 - 10 hours, Distance: 303 km
Altitude: 8,009ft
Highlight:
Departure at 6:30 AM from Dehradun and after 9 to 10 hours of journey, you’ll be at WAN.
Wan is the OnMap base camp and trek starting point of Ali Bedni bugyal trek.
There are several local shops where you can buy jackets, gloves, hats, shoes, etc. if needed. However, it is recommended to bring all the necessary items for the trek in advance and not rely on these shops.

Day 2 : Wan to Ali Bugyal via Gehroli Patal

Trek Distance: 10 KM, Duration: 7 Hours
Altitude: 11,500ft
Highlight:
After breakfast, you’ll start climbing towards Ali Bugyal which will be your first trek stop for 2nd day.
The initial 30-45 minutes of ascent to ‘Ran Ka Dhar’ is followed by a 20-minute descent to Neel Ganga River. Hard climb for 3 hours from Neel Ganga to Gehroli Patal.
You can see the trails from Lat Devta Temple. Latu Devta is a local deity who is believed to protect the area.
From here begins a beautiful ascent to the first camp, Gehroli Patal. Now the trail winds through oak and rhododendron forests and welcomes the sight of the Trishul and this is Gehroli Patal.
From Gehroli Patal there is a sidewalk towards Ali bugyal and after the climb of 2 more hours you’ll be at India's 2nd largest bugyal ‘Ali bugyal’.

Day 3 : Ali Bugyal to Bedni Top & Bugyal and back to Gehroli Patal

Trek Distance: 6 KM, Duration: 6 Hours
Altitude: 11,500ft to 10,360ft via 13,769ft and 12,550ft
Highlight:
The weather in these parts fluctuates and you can experience moments of wild sunshine followed by anxious clouds. Keep a raincoat handy. Sometimes it rains for a few minutes so you are frustrated, sometimes it can rain for hours.
just 2624 feet away is the highest point of the trek, Bedni Top. The best views are from the top. Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti appear right in front of you. And far ahead, hundreds of feet below is Bedni Kund.
Once back on Bedni Bugyal, take the path to the right and down. 20 minutes later you reach the tree line and steep descent that signals the end of the meadows. Follow the descending path on the left.
After an hour of descent in meadow, oak, and rhododendron forest, you will reach a clearing. A green tourist hut signals Gehroli Patal. On a clear day, you will get stunning views of Mount Trishul, which dominates the area. Set up camp here.

Day 4 : Gehroli Patal to Wan

Trek Distance: 6.50 KM, Duration: 5 Hours
Altitude: 8,009ft
Highlight:
From Gehroli it is a steep ridge descent to the Neel Ganga River. Faster hikers can reach the river in an hour and a half. The slower ones take two.
Take your time, as you will rarely see a more stunning stretch of woodland. The Neel Ganga River Bridge is an idyllic place to wash away the dirt and grime of a long trek.
Trees overhang the river and water tumbles and tumble over boulders in the shade. The water is cold and refreshing. From the river, it is a short hour's climb to the ridge above the village of Wan.

Day 5 : Wan to Dehradun

Drive Duration: 9 - 10 hours, Distance: 303 km
Highlight:
After breakfast, way back to Dehradun from Wan.
You’ll be in Dehradun by late afternoon.

Best Time To Visit

Summer: Ali & Bedni is good during the summer season from April to mid-June. The calm and pleasant summer sun and evening make the trek more pleasant.
Monsoon: In monsoon, the trek route is muddy and slippery. It is better to avoid risky places trekking in this season.
Spring: The spring month from mid-September to early November is considered the best time to trek Ali & Bedni. Trekking is fun with lush greenery all around and calm weather.
Winter: Ali & Bedni is pretty thrilling in winter because you get snow-covered meadows (white snow fields) to play with snow and for skiing with snowboarding. And you see some spectacular views of some of India's highest mountains.
