Paro Valley: This picturesque region is amongst the region’s widest valleys, covered by rice fields. Its crystalline river meanders down the valley. A bouquet of traditional, colorful, and decorative houses makes the valley come alive with beauty.
Ruins of Drukgyel Dzong: Tucked in the upper Paro Valley, these ancient ruins are among the much famed archaeological sites of the country. One of the four principal Dra Dzongs (defense fortresses), Drukgyel Dzong was built during 1644-1649 to commemorate the Bhutanese victory over the Tibetan-Mongol forces. On a cloudless day, you can catch sight of Bhutan's holy peak - Mt. Jumolhari from here.
After an insightful day of vacation in Bhutan, come back to the hotel for a relaxing stay.
Arise fresh amidst unpolluted expanses and gorge on a delicious breakfast. The day presents you an incredible trek to Tiger’s Nest. The ascent is an easy one and you can reach the top in almost 2 hours, if you are an enthusiastic trekker. Beginners might take a little more time.
Tiger’s Nest: Also known as Taktshang Goemba or Paro Taktsang, Tiger’s Nest is a monastery that is perched on a cliff and offers you a spectacular scenery of blue pine and rhododendrons forest. Legends state that Guru Rinpoche flew to this site on a tigress’ back to mollify a local demon. Later, he meditated here for three months.
Once you have enjoyed the adrenaline rush with this Bhutan trekking, come back to the hotel and relax your weary self.
Wake up to a hearty breakfast and set off to delve into the past of the country. Your places of interest today are Rinpung Dzong and National Museum.
Rinpung Dzong: The Dzong is originally Rinchen Pung Dzong but is famous with its shortened name - Rinpung Dzong, which means 'Fortress on a Heap of Jewels'. In 1644, its construction began on the order of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It is looked upon as a masterpiece of Bhutanese monastery and hosts Paro Tsechu - festival of masks. Formerly the National Assembly meeting hall, the Dzong now is home to monastic body, district government offices, and local courts. Its splendid architecture and breathtaking views make it a must visit attraction among Bhutan tourist places. The fortress defended Paro valley against Tibetan invasions throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.
National Museum: Take a sneak peek into the history at this museum, which is located in an age-old ta dzong (watch tower). Here, a tasteful collection of ancient weapons, coins, Bhutanese art and artifacts, and stamps is displayed. Go through the 3D map of Bhutan in the natural-history gallery.
