Day 1 : Qinghai Lake - Chabcha Town (Gong'he) 228km
In the morning, you will drive from Xining to Lake Kokonor, also known as Qinghai Lake, the largest salt water source in Asia at 10,499 feet (3200 meters) above sea level. En-route, you will pass through Sun & Moon mountain where the princess Wenchen took the road to Tibet autonomous region in 7th century. At arrival to 151 settlement, we will enter Er’Lang’Jian scenic spot to explore the Qinghai Lake (Boat and other activities at your own expenses). We will have lunch at Qinghai lake and then drive to Chabcha Town through Shala Pass, where you will see panoramic and stunning view of the lake. You can also hike around 1 hour up the Shala pass (12,467 ft./3800m above sea level). Local nomads are herding their animals on the grassland here in summer where flowers are blossoming in this peaceful place. You will be able to get fresh yak-yogurt from local nomads. Overnight: at a clean local hotel
Day 2 : Chabcha - Mangzong County (Gui'nan) 160km
After breakfast, we will drive to Mangzong. En route, you will visit Atsok Monastery, a remote and old monastery located in a deep valley of the Yellow River, where the landscape is incredible. Cross the river on a newly built bridge (the highest and the long bridge in Qinghai) over the Yellow River and continue drive to Kushug Village near Mangzong county. Overnight: Home-stay in a farm village.
Day 3 : Mangzong - Sogwo Grassland 220km
After breakfast with the Tibetan farmer family, you will drive to Sogwo through amazing grasslands of Tsekog. Explore the livelihood of a Tibetan-Mongolian nomad family where you can learn how to herd and milking yaks, a hands-on experience of Amdo nomad lifestyle. Sogwo is a big grassland and it is good to experience horseback riding by asking the local nomad (own expense). Overnight: Tibetan nomad family Homestay
Day 4 : Sogwo - Rebgong 126km
In the morning, have breakfast with the nomad family and then drive to Repkong. Repkong is the capital city of is Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous prefecture. This place is rich in Tibetan culture and traditional arts, and it hosts a special Mountain God Festivals called ‘lurol’ in summer. Some of the villages and monasteries in this region are famous for Tibetan Thangka painting skill throughout Tibet. You will visit upper and lower Sengeshong Monasteries to explore the arts of the Tibetan Thangka painting. Overnight: A modern Home-stay
Day 5 : Drive to Xining 165km
In the morning, we will visit Rongwu Gonchen monastery, the mother monastery of 35 others in the region. This monastery is large enough and it take around 3 hours complete. After touring in the monastery, we will have lunch in Repkong and then driver to Xining. Transfer to hotel in Xining.
