Day 1 : Nairobi
We welcome you to Kenya at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and after a brief meet-and-greet session, we then transfer you to your city hotel – Fairview (or a similar hotel facility) for check-in on a bed-and-breakfast basis and overnight stay at leisure. This is a typical Country Hotel with the convenience of proximity to the ultra-modern Nairobi city centre.
Day 2 : Nairobi - Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
We pick you up after your breakfast from the hotel at 0800hrs for transfer, after a short briefing, to Wilson Airport in time for your flight to Lewa. Upon arrival at the Lewa airstrip, you will be met by your driver guide who will transfer you to the Wildlife Sanctuary (also known as Lewa Downs). Check-in and lunch is at Lewa Safari Camp in this conservancy that is set in a riverine habitat amid gently rolling hills. After an afternoon rest we embark on our first game drive in this park that boasts hosting the world’s largest single grevy’s zebra population (over 350), equally large black rhino population, all the “Big Five”, reticulated giraffe, cheetahs, a few hyenas, the rare sitatunga, gerenuk, eland, oryx, waterbuck and impala. It also has an array of interesting birdlife like the blue Somali ostrich, falcons, sunbirds and even the lesser flamingo. Dinner and overnight is spent at the lodge.
Day 3 : Lewa - Shaba National Reserve
After an early morning game drive, we go back to the lodge for a late breakfast and check out. We depart the Sanctuary with an enroute game drive, heading north-eastwards to Shaba National Reserve away, arriving in time for lunch at the Sarova Shaba Game lodge. After a short afternoon rest we finally embark on a late afternoon game drive and drive back in the evening to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 : Shaba
We wake up for an early morning game drive and go back to the lodge for a late breakfast and leisure. This Game Reserve set by the extinct volcanic Shaba Mountain (1525M) and dotted with acacia, riverine and thorn trees in a dramatic savanna landscape is home to a variety of wildlife such as elephant, lion, cheetah, grevy’s zebra, giraffe, gerenuk, buffalo, oryx, grant’s gazelle, dik-dik, waterbuck and the rare leopard. The forested areas along its life supporting river Uaso Nyiro provides an array of birdlife including the rare William’s Lark. This park is also known for its setting for the book and film, Born Free (about Elsa the lioness) authored by the late Joy and George Adamson. After lunch we embark on an afternoon game drive and go back to the lodge before sunset for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 : Shaba - Mount Kenya
We wake up for an early morning game drive and then back to the lodge for a late breakfast and check out with a last game drive enroute, driving across the equator to the southern hemisphere and arriving at Mount Kenya Safari Club in Nanyuki in time for lunch. Thereafter we embark on a guided Nature Walk that takes us to the Mau Mau Caves, our freedom fighters’ hideouts during the country’s struggle for independence. We also experience on foot, the cool effects of the dense Mount Kenya forest with its varied indigenous tree species and forest life, maybe chancing on the occasional 3-horned chameleon and colorful butterflies amid the melodious sounds of singing birds and crickets. We go back to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 : Mount Kenya - Masai Mara
After breakfast, we check out of the lodge for a drive to Nanyuki Airstrip for your flight to Masai Mara, arriving at Mara Keekorok Airstrip to be met by your driver guide who will transfer you to the adjacent Keekorok Lodge (or a similar lodge facility) in time for lunch, a short rest and a late afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight is spent at the lodge.
Day 7 : Masai Mara
This will be a day of tracking game with your guide, after an early breakfast. The Mara's landscape is scenic savannah grassland on rolling hills, which enables the reserve to attract sufficient rainfall to maintain and support a large population of herbivores, together with the predators that follow. Elephant, lion, buffalo can be seen with relative ease though luck is a necessary factor for spotting rhino and leopard that complete the big five as the two animals are very timid and sparsely numbered. Plains game like wildebeest, zebra and Masai giraffe abound as well as hippos and a wide variety of antelopes including impala, dik dik, hartebeest, Grant’s gazelle and Thompson’s gazelle among others. We will cater for a picnic lunch at the hippo pool. In the evening we drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 : Masai Mara - Nairobi
After breakfast we check out of the lodge and depart the park via a last game drive chancing to see what you may not have seen the previous days, lunch enroute. We arrive in Nairobi in the early evening marking the end of our safari.
