Amritsar, The Home Of Golden Temple Is One Of The Most Ancient And Fascinating Cities Of India. It Is An Important Place Of Sikh History And Culture. Being The Gateway For Travellers Coming To India On The Overland Route From Central Asia It Soon Became The Centre Of Various Commercial Activities. The Most Famous From All Of Them Is The Golden Temple . Construction Of The Golden Temple Began In 1574 On Land Donated By The Mughal Emperor Akbar. The Building Project Was Overseen By The Fourth And Fifth Sikh Gurus. The Temple Was Completed In 1601, But Restoration And Embellishment Continued Over The Years. The Temple Had To Be Substantially Rebuilt After It Was Sacked In The 1760S.
In The Early 19Th Century, 100 Kg Of Gold Were Applied To The Inverted Lotus-Shaped Dome And Decorative Marble Was Added. All This Gold And Marble Work Took Place Under The Patronage Of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The Legendary Warrior King Was A Major Donor Of Money And Materials For The Shrine And Is Remembered With Much Affection By The Sikh Community And Punjabi People.
Jallian Wala Bagh
Amritsar Massacre: This Place Noted For Its Most Notorious Massacre Under British Rule. It Is Situated 400 Meters Away From The Golden Temple In North. The British General Dyer Was The Lieutenant Governor Of The Province In 1919. He Banned All Meetings And Demonstrations Led By Indians Against The Economical Set Back By World War I. On 13 April 1919 In The Afternoon Thousands Of People Gathered At Jallian Wala Bagh To Celebrate The Baisakhi. This Ground Is Surrounded By High Walls On All Sides Has Only A Narrow Alley For Access. General Dyer Personally Led The Troops To The Sight And Ordered His Men To Open Fire Without Any Warning. It Resulted In The Death Of 379 And Injured More Than 1200. India Was Outraged By Dyer´S Massacre. Gandhiji, Called For A Nation Wide Strike And Started The Non-Cooperation Movement, Which Became An Important Mile Stone In The Struggle For India´S Independence. Today This Ground Has Been Changed To A Park And It Has A Pleasant Garden. There Is A Narrow Path Between The Houses Which Leads To The Lawn Of The Park. At The Entrance There Is A Memorial Plaque Which Recounts The History. There Is A Well On The North Side In Which Many People Who Tried To Escape From The Bullets Were Drowned, And Remnants Of Walls Have Been Preserved To Show The Bullet Holes. At The East End Of The Garden There Is A Large Memorial Built In Memory Of Those Who Died Here.
After Visiting This Historical Place We Will Have Lunch At Some Restaurant.
Durgiana Mandir
History
Shree Durgiana Mandir In Amritsar Is A Focal Point Of Faith For The Hindus. Pilgrims Flock To This Temple Not Only From India But Also From Abroad. The Complex Is Popularly Known As The Durgiana Derives Its Name From The Goddess Durga. This Connection With Goddess Durga Has A Socio Cultural References As Goddess Durga Is Normally Invoked For Protection And Health While The Soldiers Go To War.
Amritsar Is Particularly Nearer And Dearer To Hindus As It Is Believd That The Lov-Kush Along With Their Mother Mata Sita Spent Their Early Childhood In The Ashram Of Bhagwan Maharishi Balmiki Ji In The Land Of Amritsar .King Ishvaku Grandson Of Surya Devta Performed A Number Of Yagya On This Land.The City Of Amritsar Was How Ever Established By The Fourth Guru Of Sikhs Sh.Amar Dass Ji.This Religious & Pious Place Of The Durgiana Mandir Is Managed By Durgiana Committee (Regd.).The Trust Utilizes The Offerings Of The Temple & Other Resources For The Various Activities For The Welfare Of The Society Irrrespective Of Religion, Caste And Creed. Gods & Godesses Of The Hindus I.E Lakshmi Narain, Lord Rama,Sita,Lakshman,Bharat,Radha Krishna Ji,Shree Hanuman Ji,Lord Shiva & Satnarain ,Are In Existence Here . There Is A Continuous Flow Of Devotees Throughout The Day Till Late In The Evening .The Blessings Of The Gods Fulfill The Desires Of All.
Wagah Border
Wagah, Named Wahga In Pakistan, Is A Village Near Which The Accepted Radcliffe Line, The Boundary Demarcation Line Dividing India And Pakistan Upon The Partition Of India, Was Drawn.[2] The Village Lies 600 Meters West Of The Border Line. At The Time Of Independence In 1947, The Migrants From The Indian Parts Of The Subcontinent Entered The Present Day Pakistan Through This Border Crossing. The Wahga Railway Station Lies 400 Meters To The South And Only 100 Meters From The Border Line Itself. In Pakistan The Border Crossing Is Known As Wahga Border Whereas In India It Is Called Atari Border Crossing, Named After The Indian Village Atari, Which Lies 500 Meters East Of The Border Line Within Indian Territory.
It Is Particularly Known For The Elaborate Wagah Border Ceremony That Happens At The Border Gate, Two Hours Before Sunset Each Day.[2] The Flag Ceremony Is Conducted By Indianborder Security Force (Bsf) And Pakistan Rangers (Pr).
On The Same Day After Visiting All These Places We Will Return Back To Jalandhar.
