  • Day 2 : Accra

Your first stop in Accra takes you to Jamestown where the city of Accra originated. Start your day with a climb to the top of the old lighthouse near James Fort with a great view of the city and the busy and colourful fishing harbour. Wander through the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Independance Square and the W.E.B. DuBois Center to learn about the pan-African culture, the history of the Gold Coast (Ghana) and the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Visit the Makola Market and the Art Center, where you can watch the production of woven baskets and other handicrafts. Get an introduction to drumming music by the locals. Later we continue to a private Ghanaian home where the family will welcome you with a traditional Ghanaian dinner. In the evening we enjoy some typical live music.

  • Day 3 : Kumasi

After your breakfast we will start our journey to Kumasi in the Ashanti Kingdom. Visit the Kente cloth weaving village, Adanwomase, which carries on the centuries-old Kente-weaving tradition. After learning about the creation and tradition of Kente cloth you will be guided through the village. Be introduced to the chief of the village during an official greeting ceremony (durbar) and learn about the history of the community. Visit the chief´s palace, the forest shrine and wander through the cocoa farm. Later we will continue to Adinkra village where you will be introduced to the traditional meaning of the Adinkra symbols. Take part in a workshop to design your own print clothes.

  • Day 4 : Akwasidae Festival

Today we will visit the Akwasidae Festival. Akwasidae Festivals are held in Ghana every six weeks, honouring the ancestors and the Ashanti king. The festival features a golden stool alongside the central feature of attention, the Ashanti King, who is carried on a palanquin through the procession of Ashanti people who have come to pay homage to their king. It is a beautiful and spectacular site, with colourful canopies and umbrellas amongst drummers, dancers, hornblowers and singers who perform in honour of their ancestral spirits. Continue to the 'unmovable' Komfo Anokye Sword, which is said to be a symbol of unity between the Nzema and the Ashanti tribe. End the day with a visit at the busy Kejetia Market, the biggest market in West Africa with over 45,000 stalls.

  • Day 5 : Cape Coast

After starting our journey to Cape Coast, you will visit the Assin Manso Slave River. This river is where captured slaves from the Northern part of Ghana had their last bath before being transported to the Americas. After learning about the historic site you will visit one of the highlights of our tours, the home village of our founder Enock, a typical Ghanaian village close to Cape Coast. Be welcomed by the elders of the village during an official greeting ceremony, where you will hand over traditional gifts which we arranged in advance. Listen to the stories of the elders and learn about the history and traditions of the village. Watch a traditional cultural performance by the children and women of the village. Get an introduction to local cuisine by the family by enjoying a Ghanaian lunch together. You will be guided to the vegetable farm and the cocoa plantation, which is the main source of income for the village. Get a taste of typical village life while fetching water from the nearby river. Visit the school project and say goodbye to your new family before we continue our way to Cape Coast.

  • Day 6 : Cape Coast

Start your day with taking part in a head wrapping workshop in a local community of Cape Coast. Learn about how wraps identify a woman´s religion, social status and celebrations. Continue to Cape Coast Castle, which was used to hold slaves before they were loaded onto ships and sold in the Americas, especially the Caribbean. Start an emotional journey during which you will visit the dungeons and the Door of No Return. Receive a unique naming ceremony and get your own Ghanaian name. Later you will visit Fort Williams, which was built in 1753 by the British. End your day with a cultural performance at the beach site.

  • Day 7 : Departure

After your breakfast, we continue to do a guided walking tour through Elmina to see the fishing harbor and traditional Posuban shrines of this historic town. Climb the stairs to Fort St. Jago and enjoy the view over the city. Afterwards we will visit the Elmina Castle and learn about the history as a major trans-Atlantic slave hub. Loaded with unforgettable memories of your trip, we continue to Accra and take you to the airport to get your evening flight. Receive farewell wishes by your new Ghanaian friends and family at the airport.
