Kinnaur Is The South Eastern District Of Himachal Pradesh And Lies At An Altitude Ranging Between 2320 - 6816 M. It Is Situated On The National Highway No - 22 Which Is Popularly Known As The Hindustan Tibet Road. Shimla, The State Capital Is Around 250 Km Away. The District Is Basically A Mountanious Region With A Temperate Climate. Vegetation In Areas On Higher Elevation Is Sparse While At Lower Elevation Temeperate Trees Like Oak, Chestnut, Maple, Birch, Alder, Magnolia, Apple And Apricot Can Be Spotted.

Kalpa Is A Little Known Town Situated In The Lap Of The Mighty 19965 Feet Kinner Kailash Peak, Around 240Kms From Shimla. Situated At An Altitude Of 9711 Feet, Kalpa Is Surrounded By Snowy Peak For Almost The Whole Year. One Gets A Clear View Of The Sacred Kinner Kailash Peak As Well As Its Sister Peaks. You Can Get A Chance To Bike To This Place, Band In The Middle Of Winters!
Kalpa Used Be To A Favourite Haunt Of Lord Dalhousie, Who Used To Visit This Place By Travelling Next To The Sutluj River In Those Days.. But Nowadays You Can Easily Drive Down, Although The Road Is Quite Tough! From Delhi, Shimla Is A Comfortable 9Hour Drive (355Kms Via Ambala And Then Nh22). From Shimla, Things Get Interesting. Carry On The Nh22 To Narkanda (64Kms, An Easy 2Hr Drive), Then Rampur (Another 73Kms, 2 Hours). From Here On, For A While Roads Are Good But Mostly, Turn Into A Bad Shape With Work Going On (The Hydro Electric Power Station). But The Views Make Up For It. From Rampur, You Pass Thru Jeori (23Kms), Wangtu (37Kms) And Finally Karcham (20Kms). The Road From Wangtu To Karcham Is In A Bad State And Occasionally The Road Is Blocked For A Couple Of Hours Due To Landslide.
At Karcham, A Right Goes To Sangla Valley, Take A Left Towards Recong Peo/Kalpa (35Kms). At Recong Peo, There Are Two Options, A Longer 13Kms Or A Shorter Steeper 7Km Route. You Can Take Another Shorter 7Km Route, Riding Between Apple Orchads, Narrow Roads, In Complete Isolation. And If You Are Here Between Dec And Feb, You Will Be Greeted With Atleast 5-6 Frozen Waterfalls By The Road Between Peo And Kalpa. If You Are Driving Youself, Taking A Nights Stop At Narkanda, Around 420Kms, 11 Hours From Delhi. Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival

  Meet on arrival in Chandigarh airport/ station and transfer to Shimla by road. On arrival check in at hotel. Evening free to stroll in the famous The Mall & The Ridge. Overnight at hotel.
• Day 2 : SHIMLA-RAMPUR

  Travel by road from Shimla to Sarahan, the gateway to Kinnaur enroute crossing the famous hill resorts of Kufri & Narkanda. Enroute also visit Rampur and view Padam Palace. Continue drive along the Satluj river and from Jeori climb upto Sarahan. On arrival check in at hotel. Evening visit the famous Bhimakali temple at Sarahan. Overnight at hotel.

• Day 3 : SARAHAN TO KALPA

  After breakfast travel by surface from Sarahan to Kalpa. The route is along the Sutlej river. Kalpa is a beautiful village located in the backdrop of Kinner Kailash Mountain range. On arrival check in at hotel. Afternoon visit Roghi village which has traditionally built Kinnauri houses. Evening free to walk around the Kalpa village. Overnight at hotel.
• Day 4 : KALPA TO SANGLA

  After breakfast travel to Sangla which has earned distinction of one of the most beautiful valleys in Himachal. At Sangla visit Kamru village and make a small walk to visit Kamru Fort which has a temple dedicated to Kamaksha Devi. Later check in at camp. Rest of day is free to relax and enjoy the pristine beauty. Overnight at camp.

  After breakfast an excursion visiting the picturesque village of Chitkul. Drive back to Sangla. Rest of day free to relax or make walks to nearby Batseri village. Overnight at camp.

  Travel by surface from Sangla to Shimla. On arrival check in at hotel. Overnight at hotel.
