Enjoy a half-day private Bilbao tour in the company of a local guide discovering the former industrial heart of Spain and home to one of the world’s Guggenheim museums.
Departing from the pier, you will enjoy a short drive to Getxo, an elegant residential town nestled on the bank of the Nervion River and featuring large, English-style homes. Upon arrival, you will take a panoramic drive of the city and then proceed for a visit to the nearby Hanging Bridge, or Bizkaia Bridge. The Bridge joins the riverbanks at Portugalete and Las Arenas, allowing for free-flowing maritime traffic. Reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower due to its iron structure, this over 100 year-old old masterpiece of engineering is now the oldest transporter bridge in the world.
Once in the city, you will head towards the Ensanche area – the big town extension of 1883 which is today recognized as the city center of Bilbao. The geometric grid of the Ensanche offers a large variety of well worth seeing buildings and squares: the Indautxu and Bizkaia square, the local government´s library, the Alhondiga building, which was reformed by the french industrial designer Philippe Starck or the unique Metro designed by Norman Foster.
Afterwards, you visit the jewel of the city, the popular Guggenheim Museum, a striking fish-shaped structure built by Frank Gehry in the late 20th century. Built of shimmering titanium and glass, the stunning building put Bilbao back on the tourist map and is at the top of every visitors must-see list. Join your guide for a tour of the modern facility with its galleries of permanent and temporary exhibitions.
Following an approximately 1 hour 30 minutes visit you will enjoy a guided walk around the Old Quarter, the most popular area of the city. Here, you will see the Teatro Arriaga, el Arenal, the old stevedoring port and today one of the favorite promenades of the citizens of Bilbao, the San Nicholas Church, the Cathedral of Santiago along with its cloister, and Plaza Nueva.
Before ending the tour you will stop at the Artxanda Park, which features panoramic views across the city.
