Bali is a cultural haven for the uninitiated. Beauty is dotted across the island in iconic places like Tanah Lot, Uluwatu, Ubud Monkey Forest. Not to mention the unforgettable Kecak or the elegant Balinese dance. How do you like your coffee? Indonesia has one of the best in the world. Make sure you get a cup of Kopi Luwak while you are at it.
We have spoken to numerous travelers, but there is something about their uninhabited happy attitude that’s a real pleasure to be around. There is no rat race here, people are courteous, and even though the traffic is killing in some parts, in the interior of Bali no one is ever in any hurry. It will be a culture shock of the good kind for anyone traveling from a bustling city. Om swastiastu!
Day 1 : Denpasar
Arrive at Denpasar and meet the happy guide who will help you get settled in your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 2 : Tanah Lot
You have an full day ahead of you, after breakfast, start with Bedugul, a naturally beautiful region in the central highlands. This region also has Lake Beratan, the largest of three volcanic lakes. Here you find yourself at an altitude of 700 to 900 meters while the surrounding mountain peaks rise to about 2,000 meters.
After the natural sojourn, we head to Jatiluwih Valley where we see beautiful display of terraced farming. In Jatiluwih the landscape is a sculpture that was meticulously perfected over some five hundred years by many generations of farmers who collectively created an intricate infrastructure of dams, canals and aqueducts to irrigate their individual rice fields most efficiently.
Take a walk through the terraces to listen to the gentle song of water that continuously trickles down from one rice field into the next.
Then head to Alas Kedaton Temple & Monkey Forest. Alas Kedaton is a small forest with hundreds of monkeys in their natural habitat. It's one of the Bali attractions where monkeys exist, free and peaceful. As we walk with the monkeys, yes, with the monkeys, reach the Alas Kedaton Temple.
Day 3 : Uluwatu
Take the first half of the day to explore Nusa Dua, and other local areas near where you stay. Post lunch, head to Pura Uluwatu on the extreme southwestern tip of the island. This temple dates back to the 11th Century and is one of Bali's nine key cardinal temples.
The structure itself is not as imposing as it’s location. This beautiful temple is set on the edge of a steep cliff some 70 meters above the roaring waves of the Indian Ocean, it is the one place where you will literally feel awestruck.
After taking in the glory of this temple placement, stay for the Kecak dance that is performed every day near the temple between 6PM and 7PM.
This is a mesmerizing dance which is combined with sounds made by artists themselves. Set against the truly magnificiet sunset in Uluwattu, as the sun sets, the artists arrive to take over the magic. The dance itself is about the the eternal love story of Rama and Shinta, this dance form can only be staged in the temple. It’s best experienced! Watch out for the white monkey while you are at it!
Close the day with a lovely Balinese dinner at Bumbu Bali.
Day 4 : Nusa Lembongan
After an eventful day before, its time for another lovely day in Bali! Head to Nusa Lembongan, a small island paradise that is a world away from the hassle and hectic pace of South Bali. This is a great place for surfing, diving, kayaking, scuba diving, parasailing and snorkeling. The water is some of the clearest you will find anywhere, and a vivid aqua blue in color.
Close the day with exploration of your own!
Day 5 : South Bali
Explore South Bali at your own pace, shop, eat, interact with locals. They are a friendly bunch who will happily tell you all the local legends and what not! Bali is not a country that's hard to get by.
Day 6 : Back Home
It's time to say bye to this beautiful little place!
