Into the Wilderness – Botswana explores two unique wilderness areas that have been shaped by the southernmost fault lines of Africa’s iconic Great Rift Valley: the fascinating wetland of the Okavango and the riverine woodlands of the Linyanti River. Our safari begins in the heart of the Delta exploring the Xigera Concession from the beautiful island that is home to Xigera Camp. Heading north to the Linyanti we will have a chance to discover the river and associated floodplains that often see large numbers of general game closely followed by their associated predators, in particular leopard and wild dog. The Linyanti Concession also has a reputation for its large concentrations of elephant.
Day 1 : Xigera Okavango Delta
Arrive in Maun and board a light aircraft for a scenic flight to Xigera. At camp you will enjoy morning and afternoon safari activities exploring the Xigera Concession by boat, mokoro, game drives and walks. The Okavango is an oasis in the middle of the Kalahari Desert home to an array of wildlife and birds. You will glide through the winding channels of the Delta in a traditional boat called a mekoro, birdwatching and seeing tiny jewel-like frogs perhaps encountering elephant and buffalo.
The two abundant habitats visited on this Exploration offer a fabulous combination of wildlife species. On the channels of Xigera, mammal sightings include the water-loving red lechwe, spotted-necked otter, elephant and tsessebe along with the elusive sitatunga. Predators include leopard and spotted hyaena. The area is a delight for birdwatchers and there is also an opportunity to see the elusive Pel’s fishing-owl.

Day 4 : Linyanti Region Okavango Delta
After a morning safari activity at Xigera, transfer by light aircraft to Linyanti Tented Camp in the Linyanti Concession in time for an afternoon safari activity. Enjoy your time here exploring the wildlife-rich area on morning and afternoon/evening game drives. The Linyanti region offers excellent game viewing for plains game and predators such as lion and leopard. The vegetation and natural light in this region make it a photographer’s dream.
The Linyanti has diverse and prolific wildlife, but is most noted for its very large elephant population which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Other game concentrations are also high, and apart from abundant plains game, species such as roan and sable antelope, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyaena, black-backed jackal and wild dog may also be encountered. This area can also be excellent for the rarely-seen aardvark and aardwolf. Birding is spectacular.
