Day 1 : Arrival
You will be met at Victoria Falls Airport and transferred to your hotel near the mighty Zambezi River.
Check in, settle in and relax whilst you catch your first glimpses of the magnificent Smoke That Thunders first discovered by Dr. David Livingstone and still one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. The flow of water over the Victoria Falls is greatest from February to June following the summer rains, but they are a magnificent sight at any time of year.
Day 2 : Victoria Falls
Today we recommend exploring on foot the mighty Victoria Falls and its rainforest, which offers magnificent views.
Afterwards you can participate in other optional activities such as a helicopter flight over the falls or an elephant interaction.
In the late afternoon we recommend an optional Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River where you may see hippos, crocodiles and abundant bird life.
Note: We suggest you take your own raincoat for walking in the rainforest, as those on hire are well used.
Day 3 : Victoria Falls
This morning is free to relax at your hotel or explore the small town of Victoria Falls.
In the afternoon (16.00) you will be collected from your hotel and transferred on a 1.5-hour game drive through Zambezi National Park to your rustic mobile bush camp situated on the banks of the Zambezi River about 16 miles (25 km) upstream from Victoria Falls.
After drinks on the river bank, relax under the brilliant stars of the southern sky and enjoy a delicious dinner cooked over a roaring campfire.
Note: Your walk-in tent will be erected for you and camp beds, mattresses, sheets, pillows and duvets supplied. You will also have a camping water basin (filled with hot water in the morning), paraffin lantern and hand towels. There is a portable toilet and hot water shower in camp. Limited beer, soft drinks and bottled water will be supplied, but if you have specific drink preferences you need to bring your own. From April to August (the winter months) the evenings and early mornings will be very cold, so warm clothing is essential. As space is limited, one soft bag per person is recommended.
Day 4 : Zambezi River Canoe Safari
After a delicious breakfast cooked over an open fire and a safety briefing (where you will be required to sign an indemnity form), we embark upon your exciting Zambezi River Canoe Safari.
We launch our canoes onto the river and spend the morning paddling 11 miles (18 km) downstream through gentle grade one and two rapids, exploring various channels, birding and game viewing. A picnic lunch is served along the way. Afterwards transfer back to Victoria Falls, arriving around 14.30.
You will then be transferred 2-hours to the Botswana border at Kasane. After completing immigration formalities, continue to your game lodge near the Chobe River.
Chobe National Park is Botswana’s premier wildlife reserve and is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, where four African countries meet – Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
After checking in to your lodge, enjoy a boat ride on the Chobe River, which is home to some of Botswana’s most spectacular wildlife, as well as abundant bird life. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately in this vast game sanctuary and hopefully you will see elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and other river-based wildlife today. Afterwards dine in the atmosphere that only the African bushveld can provide.
Day 5 : Chobe National Park
Rise at dawn to take advantage of the best game viewing conditions of the day and enjoy a thrilling open-top game viewing drive with a lodge ranger.
Chobe National Park is home to vast herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as numerous other species which roam in profusion and diversity. During the dry season, vast elephant herds migrate from both south and north to congregate in their thousands along the Chobe River – the largest concentration of elephants in the whole of Africa. Also hope to see lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons and many other interesting animals before returning to your lodge.
In the afternoon, enjoy another game-viewing boat ride on the Chobe River.
Day 6 : Okavango Delta
This morning transfer to Kasane Airport for your light aircraft flight to your walking camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
Settle into camp in this pristine water wilderness, before participating in an introductory bush walk. Afterwards enjoy a hearty dinner around the campfire.
Day 7 : Okavango River
The seasonal Okavango Delta is flooded annually by the Okavango River, which flows inland from Angola into the dry sands of the vast Kalahari – never finding the sea, but instead forming a huge inland delta whose waters are absorbed by the desert.
Comprising 6,000 square miles of crystal clear channels, serene lagoons and a myriad of islands, the Okavango Delta forms a natural oasis that sustains a vast variety of wildlife and birds of all descriptions. The waters are at their height from July to October, forming an amazing wetlands ecosystem that is one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.
Activities at your camp centre on early morning walking safaris along the delta waterways, accompanied by an armed ranger, to track some of the larger species that inhabit this water wilderness - including buffalo, hippo and elephants. You will also be able to experience the rich birdlife of the delta, which is a renowned birding hotspot. In the afternoon explore the delta by mekoro canoe, a tranquil way of admiring the birds and plant life of these watery channels. There is also the opportunity to try your hand at some fishing.
In the evening exchange stories around a blazing campfire, under balmy African skies.
Walking safaris require an average level of fitness and minimum age of 16 years. Wear good walking boots and neutral clothing (avoid black, white and bright colours). Pack a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, insect repellant, torch, binoculars, camera with extra batteries, rain jacket and warm sweater.
Day 8 : Okavango Delta
This morning transfer from your walking camp to your game lodge in the Okavango Delta, with bird watching and game viewing along the way.
In the late afternoon enjoy an open-top game viewing drive with your ranger, before dinner at your lodge.
Day 9 : Okavango Delta
Today transfer from your lodge to your wilderness fly camp (with bush ablutions) in the Okavango Delta, where your dome tents will be erected for you.
Enjoy a late afternoon game viewing walk, before relaxing under the stars around a blazing campfire in this pristine wildlife conservation area. Camp beds will be provided with clean linen and all meals will be cooked over an open fire.
