This is a fairly easy three-day trek that takes you through beautiful valleys and along clear, trout-filled rivers. Bumthang is often known as the ‘cultural heartland’ of Bhutan and there are plenty of ancient temples to visit during the hike.
In addition to the numerous lhakhangs there are also a number of small villages where you can stop and rest. The only segment of the trek that may prove challenging is a 500m ascent to Pephe La pass.Both International & domestic Flight fares.

Day 1 : Paro - Thimphu
You will be welcome by our representatives at International airport. After completing customs & Immigration formalities. We will drive to capital city Thimphu and check in hotel.
Afternoon, Visit National Memorial Chorten , built in 1974 in the memory of Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Takin Reserve, the National Animal of Bhutan, (budorcas taxicolor/ Drong Gyemtse’.) is found and Radio tower, it offers splendid views of the city from a hilltop festooned with prayer flags.
In the evening visit Tashichhodzong, the “fortress of the glorious religion", built in 1641. It houses His Majesty’s Secretariat and the Central Monk Body. Across the river you can see the National Assembly building. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 2 : Thimphu - Punakha
Morning visit Semtokha Dzong,built in 1627 and it is the oldest Dzong in the country and now houses the School for Buddhist Studies.
Stop at Dochula ( altitude 3088m) , drive 23km from Thimphu which will take about 45 minutes where you can enjoy the viewpoint of Eastern Himalayas. The 108 chortens was built by the present Queen Mother of Bhutan Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Indian militants and to liberate the souls of the soldiers lost.
En route visit Chhimi Lhakhang atop a small hillock, built in 1499 by the 14th Drukp Kinley during his first visit in this vally. Temple renowned for its fertility blessings.
Afternoon short expedition Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten (stupa), 3 hours round trip: One of the only such chorten in the world, constructed in 1992. Overnight hotel in Punakha.
Day 3 : Punakha - Trongsa
Morning visit Punakha Dzong,The ancient capital of Bhutan and now winter residence of Chief Abbot (Je Khempa), built in the year 1637. En route visit majestic Wangdue Dzong and local market.
After wangdi, journey passes through dense forests and oak, rhododendron tress till we reach at Pele La_altitude3420m, boundary between western and central Bhutan. Stop at Chendebji Chorten_altitude2430m: Similar style of the great Bodhanath Chöten of Nepal. Built in order to subdue harmful, anti religious demons.
Afternoon visit Trongsa Dzong, Longest fortress and in the centre of the kingdom, built in year 1647.Ta Dzong_ means “watchtower”: built1652 by Choeje Minjur Tenpa, the first governor of Trongsa. Explore Trongsa market and Overnight hotel in Trongsa.Overnight hotel in Trongsa.
Day 4 : Trongsa - Bumthang
Morning start journey and Stop at Yotongla pass (altitude3425m) for superb view and at Chumey private Yatha weaving Centre.
Afternoon visit Jakar Dzong,historic Jakar Dzong, builtt in 1646 AD by Minjur Tenpa, the third Druk Desi (Temporal ruler). Jambay Lhakhang, One of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in 7th century and Kurjey Lhakhang, associated with Guru Rinpochoe, who brought Tantric Buddhism in to Bhutan and Tibet. Day 5 : Toktu Zampa - Ngang Lhakhang (begin the trek).
Campsite: Altitude 2,800m.
Distance: 12 km.
Estimated time: 4-5 hours
Trek road type: 170m ascent,
The route follows the Chamkhar Chu, a river known for trout and stops for lunch at Thangbi Lhakhang. From here the trek enters the Ngang Yul (Land of the Swan) at the centre of which lies the Ngang Lhakhang (Swan Temple). The valley was once populated by swans, and hence the name Ngang Yul.
Day 6 : Ngang Lhakhang -Tahung
Campsite: Altitude 2,720m
Distance: 16 km.
Estimated time: 6 hours.
Trek road type: 750m ascent and 670m descent.
You’ll begin the day by crossing verdant meadows and with a beautiful view of the valley below. Then you climb gradually to Phephe La (3,360m), the highest point of the trek route. The trail passes through beautiful forested areas where many stops can be made to enjoy the natural beauty of your surroundings. The path leads you downhill into a broad valley. Amongst several possible camping sites the most likely one is uphill behind the village of Tahung.
Day 7 : Tahung - Mesithang
Distance: 16 km.
Estimated time: 4-5 hours.
Trek road type:230m descent.
The trail follows the Tang Chu, another trout-filled river. On the bank of the river is the Tang Rimpoche’s Lhakhang. The trek will pass the Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake) and lead you to Tang Ogyencholing. Ogyencholing Palace houses the only privately owned museum in Bhutan and has all manner of traditional artifacts on display. From here you will soon reach the road ahead.
End the trek and after drive to Bumthang. Overnight hotel in Bumthang.
Day 8 : Bumthang - Phobjikha.
Morning drive to phobjikha via Trongsa and stop at Trongsa view point for photo session. Afternoon visit Gangtey Gomp,the oldest and largest Nyingma Bhuddist centre, established in 1613 by the first Peling Gyalsé Rinpoche . Phobjikha valley to view magnificent bird,The Black Neck Crane”.These endangered birds fly south from Siberia and farm house. Overnight hotel in Phobjikha.
Day 9 : Phobjikha to Thimphu
Morning from Phojikha to Thimphu, on the way stop, places of your interest.
Afternoon vist Library, established in 1960 where an ancient texts and manuscripts are preserved.National Institute of Zorig Chusum, (commonly known as the Painting School), where a six-year training course is given in the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. Institute of Traditional Medicines Services, where the medicinal herbs abundant in the kingdom are compounded and dispensed. Textile Museum, which provides an excellent introduction about the techniques, style of various textiles woven in the country along with exhibition of the national dress ‘gho’ for men and ‘kira’ for women. Handicraft Emporium, which offers a wide range of colourful, hand woven textiles and other products.Overnight Hotel in Thimphu.
Day 10 : Thimphu - Paro
Morning expedition Tango Monastery, distance 12km drive and hike for 3 hours round trip. This temple was built in 18h century by the 8th Desi Druk Rabgye.
Afternoon Chele La pass (altitude 3720m), it is 40 km from Paro which may take 1 hour drive. A favorite place for many visitors, it is the highest motorable pass in the country. For naturalists, the ridge offers the gardens of Himalayan flowers, plants and of special pleasant species. From the top you can sport the Kela Dechen Yangtse, a nunnery perched on the opposite hillside with prayer flags lining. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 11 : Short trek to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest
To get starting point, you will have to drive 11km to reach the parking lot and for the trip may take 5 hours. Somewhat arduous adventure for the day, ascending the 915m cliff to reached the most spectacularly located temple in all Bhutan. It perched atop on a cliff at 2950m, built in 1692 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye. Though the climb up through the pine forest is steep, the journey is most worthwhile on account of the super views.
Afternoon visit Ta Dzong (watchtower), built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century, Ta Dzong was inaugurated as Bhutan’s National Museum in 1968.
Paro Dzong , is also known as Rinpung Dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal , the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, the Dzong houses the monastic body , district administrative and judge of Paro district. The approach to the Dzong is through a traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam. A walk through the bridge, over a stone inlaid path, offers a good view of the architectural wonder of the Dzong as well as life around it. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 12 : International departure from Paro
