Day 1 : Siem Reap Arrival
Flight: TBA
Upon arrival in Siem Reap, you will be welcomed by local guide and transferred to the hotel. Your room is available anytime from 14.00. Early check in subject to room availability. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 : Siem Reap - Angkor Wat - Angkor Thom - Ta Prohm
Meet your guide this morning to discover the marvelous temple of Angkor Wat, the world heritage site whose soaring tours and extraordinary bas-relief are not to be missed. It is considered one of the most amazing monuments ever conceived by man and was erected in the 12th century (1112-1152) in honor of Vishnu.
In the afternoon, visit the Great City of Angkor Thom, beginning at the southern gate’s famous Bayon temple built in the 12th and 13th centuries and dedicated to Buddhism. Bayon comprises 54 gigantic towers featuring 216 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara. Then visit the 350-meter-long Elephant Terrace, which was used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies and a base for the King’s grand audience hall, and see the raised terrace of the Leper King, built in the 12th century and presenting many of the city’s most admired Apsara sculptures. Continue visiting Ta Prohm, a Buddhist temple of the 12th century, abandoned and alive with vegetation. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 : Siem Reap - Bang Melea - Kompong Kleang Floating Village
In the morning, transfer to visit the Temple of Bang Melea in the jungle. Bang Melea was built during the reign of Suryavarman II, in the middle of the twelfth century. Far from the bustle of Angkor Wat, it will give you the impression of being the first explorer to the temple.
Then take a visit to Kompong Khleang, a village 40km from Siem Reap and as yet bypassed by mass tourism. All the houses are on stilts offering an exceptional natural environment with breathtaking views of floodplains, rice fields and water vistas as far as the eye can see. Have a picnic lunch in a villager’s home. Walk through the village meeting the locals and a family who raises crocodiles. Afterwards, travel by boat over the canals to a large lake where Vietnamese people live when they are displaced from their homes because of the seasons. Return to Siem Reap. Dinner on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
Remark: the program could be changed due to the water level of Tonle Sap lake
Day 4 : Siem Reap - Sunrise at Phnom Bakheng temple - Phnom Penh
Leave your hotel early in the morning (at about 5.00 am) to visit and enjoy spectacular sunset at Phnom Bakheng - a temple built on a hill of the same name, where the first city at Angkor was established. This gives its state temple on Phnom Bakheng special significance. Return to the hotel and free at leisure until transfer (without guide) to the airport for your flight to Phom Penh on Flight: TBA. Transfer by local driver to the hotel. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5 : Phnom Penh Sightseeing
Today you will take a city tour of Phnom Penh, start at the National Museum, a fascinating introduction to Angkor and a superb example of Khmer architecture. Officially inaugurated in 1920, the Museum displays a range of sculptures dating from different periods of Cambodia’s history. Continue with a visit at the Royal Palace built in 1866 by King Norodom and comprising different structures grouped together in one enclosure. These house a remarkable collection of Khmer art. Here you’ll find the Silver Pagoda whose key works include a golden Buddha encrusted with 9584 diamonds and weighing 90kgs, and a Buddha featuring emeralds and Baccarat crystal dating from the 17th century.
Afterwards travel to the south of the city to learn about the darkest period of Cambodia’s history: the regime of the Khmer Rouge. Here, you will visit the genocide museum of Tuol Sleng, an old secondary school which was transformed into a detention centre under the Khmer Rouge. The prison gates carry the name ‘S21’. Thousands of prisoners were detained, tortured and killed here. . Returning to Phnom Penh, visit the Russian Markets (Tuol Tumpoung) where you can stroll among all the stalls and try your hand at bargaining. You’ll find fabrics, jewels, jewellery, home wares and handicrafts among many other items.. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.
