Day 2 : Cape Town
Today your guide will collect you for a full day tour of Cape Town.
We start with a short tour to see the key historical and architectural sites of the "Mother City". Weather permitting, we will then ascend Table Mountain by cable car to enjoy one of the world’s most famous views (alternatively we drive up Signal Hill, with its wonderful view point).
We continue to the fishing village of Hout Bay, where we take a boat ride to see the Cape Fur seals at Seal Island.
Afterwards we visit Kirstenbosch Gardens, nestled on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and regarded as one the most beautiful botanic gardens in the world. Bequeathed to the nation by Cecil John Rhodes, the garden was established 1913. There is an avenue of camphor trees, a beautiful protea and fynbos garden, useful plants garden, sculpture garden and a dell garden as well as a world class collection of indigenous South African flora. Wonderful summer sunset concerts are held in the gardens on Sunday evenings from December to March.
Note: For Seal Island you will be lifted in your manual wheelchair into the boat, so this will not be possible for very heavy guests, nor for power chairs. There is no accessible toilet on the boat.
Day 3 : Boulders Beach
Today your guide will collect you for a full day tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
Enjoy wonderful ocean views as we drive around the Cape Peninsula to naval Simonstown, where we visit the resident penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
We continue to Cape Point where we hope to see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July to November). We take an accessible funicular ride up to the Old Lighthouse, before returning via spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Town.
Day 4 : Stellenbosch Winelands
Enjoy a full day tour of the renowned Stellenbosch Winelands today, travelling through the scenic Franschhoek Valley where a handful of French Huguenot refugees started South Africa’s now famous wine industry. Visit the historic university town of Stellenbosch and several different wine estates of your choice – sampling as you go!
Enjoy lunch at a good restaurant or wine estate (own account), and visit the Cheetah Outreach Project in Somerset West on the way home.
Day 5 : Cape Town
This morning your guide will show you more of the dramatic and contrasting beauty of South Africa on your scenic 5-hour drive from Cape Town along spectacular Route 62 towards Oudtshoorn in the arid Little Karoo.
We travel through the beautiful Cape Winelands and Breede River Valley, where we enjoy wine tasting at a wine estate renowned for its port, before checking into our accommodation in the small town of Calitzdorp.
Day 6 : Cango Wildlife Ranch
This morning we visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch outside Oudsthoorn, to see cheetah and crocodiles up close.
Afterwards we visit an Ostrich Farm to learn more about these huge flightless birds and their magnificent plumage.
In the afternoon we travel 2-hours through the spectacular Outeniqua Pass to Knysna on the beautiful Garden Route. Check in to your hotel and relax in this area of outstanding natural beauty.
Note: In season we recommend bookings Knysna restaurants online in advance of your visit, to avoid disappointment.

In the afternoon a special treat awaits – a visit to a Knysna Elephant Park where you will have the opportunity to feed one of these gentle giants.
Day 8 : Plettenberg Bay
Today we drive through Plettenberg Bay, South Africa’s playground for the rich and famous. Schools of dolphins are sometimes seen here in the warm Indian Ocean and whales may be seen in season (July to November).
Continuing northwards, we travel 4-hours past the Tsitsikamma Forest and across the dramatic Storms River Gorge to the malaria-free game Addo Elephant Park in the beautiful Eastern Cape.
After checking into your simple Addo Rest Camp enjoy a late afternoon game drive with your guide, where game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately. In addition to elephants, we hope to see several species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and maybe even giraffe - as well as several of the Big Five.
Day 9 : Addo Elephant Park
This morning enjoy a game drive in your guide's vehicle in Addo Elephant Park, where you can view these magnificent animals which once roamed free in this area and were saved from extinction by this national park, which has also preserved the rare Cape buffalo and the flying dung beetle. Addo is home to all the Big Five - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino - as well as many other interesting species.
The remainder of the morning is free to relax at your rest camp, before setting out again in the late afternoon on another game drive. You can hope to see ostrich, giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons and many other animals. With hundreds of different bird species in the region, outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed!
After a beautiful African sunset, enjoy the balmy evening and pristine stars of the Milky Way as you have never seen them before – as well as the spectacular Southern Cross.
Note: Vehicles are not allowed to drive off-road in any national park in South Africa.
Day 10 : Addo Elephant Park
After some final early morning game viewing in Addo Elephant Park, today we travel 4-hours along the beautiful Garden Route to Mossel Bay.
We drive past the Tsitsikamma Forest and across the dramatic Storms River Gorge. Along the way we stop to view the beautiful beaches of Plettenberg Bay and at the scenic Knysna Heads, which mark the entrance to Knysna lagoon.
We continue through the lakes of Sedgefield and the beaches of Wilderness to Mossel Bay, where the famous Portuguese explorer Bartholemew Dias landed and erected a cross. He was the first European to set foot on South African soil.
Day 11 : Dias Museum
Today we visit the Dias Museum, which has a life-sized replica of the ship that the Portuguese explorer, Bartholemew Dias, sailed in when he became the first European to set foot on South African soil and erect a cross. At the centre of the complex is the famous Post Office Tree, an ancient Milkwood where early sailors left mail for homebound ships.
Afterwards we drive to the small town of Albertinia, where we visit an Aloe shop and learn more about the healing properties of this fascinating succulent plant.
We continue driving 4-hours to the small seaside town of Hermanus. From July to November, southern right and humpback whales come here to breed and this is considered the best location for land-based Whale Watching in the world. Once severely endangered, these magnificent creatures of the deep are now breeding successfully in the area due to a major international conservation effort.
On arrival check in to your hotel and enjoy the natural beauty of the coastline.
Note: The Aloe Factory is closed on a Sunday.
Day 12 : Hermanus
