Package Overview

The Chadar is a lifeline to Zanskari people from the rest of the world, the Chadar is the pride and prestige of the Zanskari which connects them from different cultural and traditional background people to exchange the life saving techniques during harsh winter climate which goes up to -40 C. Chadar Trek is mostly walking on ice sheets formed from the flowing water river of Zanskar, which connects them from the outside world and in fact the Ladakh region and its people. Zanskari people praise the Chadar Trek rather than complaining to the Almighty for remaining isolated from the rest of the countries, because it gives them an opportunity to spend most of their time with family and friends, cheering Local butter tea and playing local games during winter. The Chadar also gives them an opportunity in income generation and livelihood, the Zanskari feel proud in leading the trekkers for Chadar Trek, which also makes them the finest guides in exploring and experimenting with new and challenging routes. The Zanskari will tell you the mountain ghost stories and the deities which protect the Zanskari from failing during the harsh winter climate.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival Leh Ladakh

  Arrival Leh K B Rinpoche Airport (world highest airfield) Depart to Hotel for Check in. We suggest you have a Complete day rest for acclimatization to avoid High Altitude Sickness (HAS) which is common to guests flying from very low altitude to sudden high altitude areas like Leh which is at 3358 m above sea level. You will be Welcome at the hotel with herbal tea which is advisable for health concerns. Overnight stay at a guest house/Hotel in Leh.

• Day 2 : Acclimatization

  Local sightseeing
  Rest and Acclimatization Walk in Leh – Altitude 11,400 ft. Stay in a Hotel.
  Overnight stay at a guest house/Hotel in Leh. – (Food not included in Package)

• Day 3 : Rest and check-up

  Keeping in mind the health problems that trekkers are facing (acute mountain sickness), as per the new regulations applied by Ladakh government authorities, anyone doing the chadar trek should be spending at least two days in leh to get your body fully acclimatized to the weather conditions here. It is irrevocable and it is important that it is strictly followed by every trekker. You can spend the day shopping at the leh market. It is very important that you get used to the cold temperature in leh because the temperature will only tend to fall as you start walking on the frozen zanskar, where the temperatures reach way below zero even in the daytime. It is advisable that you avoid visiting places which are at a higher altitude. Overnight stay at Leh

• Day 4 : Leh – Chilling – Shingra Yokma (3200 M)-Bakula Cave (Drive / 4 – 5 Hrs) Trek / 1 Hr.

  After breakfast, depart to Bakula Cave. Shingra- gets its name due to the abundance of a plant called Shingra. After visit to Patthar Sahib Gurudwara, Magnetic hills and Confluence of Sindhu and Zanskar Sangam, the drive continues and the road begins descending right into the river valley.
  Night stay in Tent at SHINGRA / bakula

• Day 5 : Bakula Cave to Tibb

  After breakfast, trek to Tibb (Appx 08kms , 7 hrs). You can enjoy trekking while listening to the legends related to this place from a local guide. At Tibb, there is a big cave. This cave is the dwelling of all the porters, and they welcome you warm-heartedly in here. Lunch halt on the way.
  Night stay in Camp / Tent at TIBB.

• Day 6 : Tibb Cave – Nerak

  After breakfast, trek to Nyerak Pullu (Appx 12 kms , 7 hrs). We pass through a beautiful landscape of cliffs, gorges and the valleys of Chadar and also view the famous Nyerak Pullu waterfall, also known as the frozen waterfall. This point can be the coldest point of Chadar trek.
  Night stay in Camp

  • Themes : Camping, Mountaineering

• Day 7 : Nerak to Tibb

  After breakfast back to Tibb by the same route (Appx 12 kms , 7 hrs). Even though we will be following the same route, the Chadar would have taken a completely new form, and it will almost be impossible to say whether you have been here before. The Zanskar River reacts to the slightest change of temperature, and constantly keeps changing over time. Lunch halt on the way.
  Night stay in Camp / Tent at Tibb.

• Day 8 : Tibb to Bagula (distance to be covered 14km). and Back to Leh

  And from Tilad-Dho, you will be driven back to Leh. Transfer into Guest house/Hotel.
  Dinner and Overnight stay at Leh – Hotel

• Day 9 : Depart from Leh

  Check out and depart to Leh KBR Airport, Fly home with smile and memories, back to home.
  As you have accomplished the challenging trek, you will feel pride and it will be a cherished memory of your life. You have learnt the techniques and skill to survive in harsh extreme weather condition and also have witnessed the hard life the ZANSKARI people are facing, the respect and encouragement for the Zanskari people bravely fighting the odds, surviving and defeating and accepting the will definitely teach you a lifetime lesson to remember.

Special Note

• In case of ill health or any other reason, if any participant has to turn back to Leh, the cost of heading back to Leh (Travel + Porter) along with the Cost of stay in Leh has to be borne by the Participant himself/herself.
• Any Increase in the Hotel tariff charges. Difference in cost arising due to change in Taxes by the Government which will have to be collected directly ON ARRIVAL.
• Cost for supplementary service, optional Tours, Up-gradation Charges, and camera charges. Cost for service provided on a personal request.
• Bottled Water, Soft Drinks, Laundry Charges, Room Service, incidentals, porter charges Or any other expense of personal nature

• Due to any natural calamities or poor ice layer formation on the Zanskar River for the Chaddar, no refund will be made, but the company could organize a substitute tour in Leh around only.

Tour Notes

• Age Group: Minimum 18 years completed. Maximum 55 Years
• Fitness: This trek involves walking for 5-6 hours daily at an average pace. The highest altitude that we attain on this tour is 3500m/11,484 ft. We do not recommend this tour to people with chronic problems like epilepsy and those related to blood pressure or heart or diabetes.
• Permits & Documents: It’s mandatory that all the participants carry a valid photo id / passport for issuance of permits and 02 passport size photographs.
• Baggage & Porters: You can hire a porter so that he can walk along with you and carry your baggage, and then an extra porter can be arranged on the spot for which the client must make an extra payment.
• Temperature: Day temperatures average minus 13 ºC (8 °F) and at night it can drop to minus 30 ºC (-22 °F).
• Temperatures can vary a lot depending on the season and altitude.
• Travel: All the Delhi – Leh flights are scheduled in the early morning hours hence it is advisable to fly to Delhi a day in advance.

Important Notes

• Considering it is an outdoor activity, please prepare accordingly.
• We advise participants with any medical issues /history not to opt for this event. Still If he/she does so, it should be at the participant’s risk. The management will not be responsible for any incident.
• Do not carry Suitcase or Heavy Luggage, we recommend you to carry a backpack.
• Be Prepared for 2 days sightseeing in humid climate, almost it usually remains hot during the day, carry sunglasses, caps
• It’s a Backpacking Trip, not a Luxury Trip; we would change a few transports based on availability, as the overall year used to be full of tourists.
• We request you to go through the complete itinerary. Since it is a group event, we will not be in a position to entertain any request of leaving early from the event. Respecting the fellow trek buddies, please adhere to the schedule and take back lovely memories.
