Warorot Market
Warorot Market is one of the places where lots of Thai locals do their own shopping, so expect to find the same or similar goods that you see at other Markets also sold here but cheaper and usually of better quality. You will also find a lot of goods here that you will not find in the tourist Markets like the Night Bazaar. You can buy almost anything at Warorot Market, a real mixed bag of everything. There are fresh/dried fruit – vegetables – flowers, butchery and bakery items, herbs, condiments, clothing, shoes, cosmetics, jewelry, lacquerware, silks, hemps, handicrafts, ceramics, wood carvings, beauty supplies, household appliances, electronic gadgets, sunglasses, watches, souvenirs, and fireworks, just to name a few.
Anasarn Market
Anusarn Market is where you can enjoy low cost wonderful meals of many different varieties. Besides Thai Food you will also find Asian, Seafood and Indian at several large open diners. Highly recommended for quality service and meals are Best Taste Kitchen, Ping Ping Restaurant and the Sea Food Restaurant. For those feeling homesick you can slip into somewhere like O’Mally’s Irish Pub for a roast dinner or an Irish stew with a pint of Guinness; or just grab a burger from the burger shop.
Kalare Night Bazaar
The Kalare Night Bazaar is a less hectic haven for a rest and is host to many shops including artist studios, jewellers, tour operators, shoe & clothing outlets and many others. Essentially it is a large undercover arcade full of shops with an open food court and entertainment area.
The Sunday Market
The Sunday Market (or Walking Street) is a large market located right in the centre of the old walled city area of Chiang Mai. Starting at the Tha Phae Gate at one end the Sunday Market extends for roughly 1km down the full length of Ratchadamnoen Road. You can go to the Market every Sunday from 4pm till midnight. The Sunday Market is open. This allows shoppers to browse the goods on display, bargain with vendors for a good price and wander freely all around without watching over their shoulder for a motor bike zipping past. Unlike the Night Bazaar which is filled with imitation designer labels, the Sunday Market is a showcase of the art and craftsmanship of the Northern Thai people. Many of the stall vendors make and sell their own products and the quality of craftsmanship is superb. The goods available are made from a wide variety of materials such as silk, paper, fabric, wood, metal, glass, ceramic etc. The handicraft products displayed are perfect as gifts or beautiful and useful items to decorate your own home. You will also find many vendors selling shoes, jewelry, souvenirs and clothing. There are a number of restaurants, coffee shops and bars in the Market area where you can opt out of the crowd and sit and enjoy a meal or a drink and watch the ebb and flow of shoppers.
The Saturday Market (or Wui Lai Market)
Saturday Market is located to the south west of the old city opposite the Chiang Mai Gate. The Saturday Market extends for roughly 1km all the way down the length of Wui Lai Road. It is open every Saturday from 4pm till midnight. Like the Chiang Mai Sunday Market the road is closed to all vehicular traffic so you can browse the goods on display, bargain with vendors for a good price and wander freely around without traffic worries. For the sheer volume and variety of goods on display the Saturday Market easily matches the more well-known Sunday Market and the Night Bazaar. Wui Lai Road is full of Silversmith shops to visit and there are plenty of silverware and aluminium sculptures on display. Besides silverware you will also find handicrafts, bags, clothing, perfume, shoes, belts, lanterns, street performers, food stalls, wood carvings and woodwork, sketch artists, ornaments, candles, housewares etc. There are no permanent restaurants in the Saturday Market streets but there are plenty of food and drink stalls and eateries. There is also a 7-Eleven Supermarkets. Nearest restaurants are located on the main street just outside Saturday Market.
Chiangmai Night Bazaar Market
The Night Bazaar, on the east side of the old walled city, is approximately 1km long on Thanon Chang Khlan (large roads in Thailand are named Thanon, and smaller side streets are named Soi) The Night Bazaar is open every day of the year regardless of the weather from dusk till around midnight. In the Night Bazaar you will find a huge variety of brand name designer goods (real and fake) (clothing, T-shirts, belts, shoes, jewelry, watches, DVD’s & CD’s) and local Thai goods at really low prices. All the other things are not stated in the part of inclusions
