Mount Cho Oyu expedition is a familiar landmark to climbers ascending Everest’s north face. Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world at 8,201 meters (26,906 ft) above sea level. It is said that Cho Oyu means ‘Goddess of Turquoise’, as its stark shadows appear this color in the light of the setting sun when viewed from Tibet. The mountain is the westernmost major peak of the Khumbu sub-section. It was first climbed by S. Moehler, H. Tichy and P. Dawa Lama in 1954. The mountain stands on the Tibet – Nepal border and offers climbers views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and literally hundreds of other Himalayan peaks. Cho Oyu Expedition is a classic Himalayan climb and considered the easiest 8000m peak to climb via its Northwest Ridge, with no technical climbing, big snowfields, and little objective danger.
The Cho Oyu peak expedition can be done from both Nepalese sides up on the south face and north-east ridge routes and Tibetan side along the Northwest ridge route with the North approach being an easier and a standard route. These days there are more than four different routes on Cho Oyu with the Tibetan north side offering several worthy first ascent possibilities. Our route is comprised of snow slopes with short sections of ice and rock scrambling. Of all Nepal’s 8000m peaks, Cho Oyu is second only to Everest in the number of expeditions and successful ascents as of its easy and hazardless climbing trail.
Most of the Cho Oyu expedition teams climb from Tibet side due to the easy technique-climbing route from there. The Mount Cho Oyu expedition starts with the drive through wonderful scenery dominated by green meadows, river gorges, snow-capped mountains, waterfalls and enchanting flora & fauna of the valleys of Zhangmu, Nyalam, and Tingri. We will have a breathtaking panorama view of incredible Himalayan ranges including Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m), Mt. Xishapagma (8012m) and Mt. Everest. Discover ancient Buddhist culture, overwhelming landscapes, exotic cities, hidden valleys, artistic monasteries, dominant inhabitant all the way to Chinese Base camp. Expedition of Mount Cho Oyu is full of gorgeous views of stunning peaks in the area, including Jobo-Rabzang, and many unclimbed and unnamed 6000 meter peaks.
