Day 1 : Arrival
You will be met at Kasane Airport and transferred to your game lodge near the Chobe River.
Chobe National Park is Botswana’s premier wildlife reserve and is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, where four African countries meet – Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
After checking in to your lodge, enjoy a boat ride on the Chobe River, which is home to some of Botswana’s most spectacular wildlife, as well as abundant bird life. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately in this vast game sanctuary and hopefully you will see elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, antelope and other river-based wildlife today. Afterwards dine in the atmosphere that only the African bushveld can provide.
Day 2 : Chobe National Park
Rise at dawn to take advantage of the best game viewing conditions of the day and enjoy a thrilling open-top game viewing drive with a lodge ranger.
Chobe National Park is home to vast herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as numerous other species which roam in profusion and diversity. During the dry season, vast elephant herds migrate from both south and north to congregate in their thousands along the Chobe River – the largest concentration of elephants in the whole of Africa. Also hope to see lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons and many other interesting animals before returning to your lodge.
In the afternoon, enjoy another game-viewing boat ride on the Chobe River.
Day 3 : Chobe River
Today transfer across the Chobe River into Namibia. After completing customs formalities, continue 15-minutes to your house boat moored near the confluence of the great Chobe and Zambezi Rivers.
Settle-in and relax on your house boat, which has an entertainment deck, lounge, kitchen, bar and dining area. Then enjoy sundowners on the Chobe River which attracts abundant wildlife from Chobe National Park situated across the river.
Day 4 : Chobe National Park
Enjoy the very special experience of cruising down the perennial Chobe River and the mighty Zambezi River on a houseboat, whilst viewing the abundant game of the Chobe National Park and overlooking the fertile flood plains of both Botswana and Namibia.
A house boat holiday is ideal for bird watching (over 400 species) and game viewing in the most relaxed way possible, as Chobe is home to vast herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as numerous other species that roam in profusion and diversity. During the dry season, vast elephant herds migrate from both south and north to congregate in their thousands along the Chobe River – the largest concentration of elephants in the whole of Africa.
This holiday is also favoured by fishermen as the Chobe River is home to ferocious Tiger Fish – legendary fighters with extraordinarily large tails and specialised bone structure, which allows them to accelerate like a rocket and hit your bait like no other fish their size. Their teeth are formidable and they prey on other fish up to 40% of their own weight. They grow up to 16 lbs but even at 4 lbs they fight like champions. Tiger fish are more active in the warmer months (September to February) when the rivers are low and clear, but there is also a short window in June when tigers feed well. Barbel (catfish) and Wild Bream (yellow bellied, thin face and hump back) are also plentiful, fishing with either conventional tackle or on fly. Fishermen will have free access to all necessary tackle, several smaller motorboats and a fishing guide.
Each evening relax with sundowners on the deck and watch the spectacular sunset over the Zambesi River surrounded by hippos, crocodiles and abundant bird life!
Day 5 : Kasane
Today transfer across the Chobe River to Kasane in Botswana.
After completing border formalities, connect with your 2-hour shared transfer to your hotel near Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River.
Check in, settle in and relax whilst you catch your first glimpses of the magnificent Smoke That Thunders first discovered by Dr. David Livingstone and still one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. The flow of water over the Victoria Falls is greatest from February to June following the summer rains, but they are a magnificent sight at any time of year.
Day 6 : Victoria Falls
Today we recommend exploring on foot the mighty Victoria Falls and its rainforest, which offers magnificent views.
Afterwards you can participate in other optional activities such as a helicopter flight over the falls or an elephant interaction.
In the late afternoon we recommend an optional Sunset Cruise on the Zambezi River where you may see hippos, crocodiles and abundant bird life.
Note: We suggest you take your own raincoat for walking in the rainforest, as those on hire are well used.
Day 7 : Zambezi River
At leisure to explore the small town of Victoria Falls on the banks of the Zambezi River.
Many optional activities are available - such canoeing in the gentler rapids above the falls, abseiling or white water rafting in the turbulent gorge below the falls (grade 5). You can also watch bungi jumping from Victoria Falls Bridge.
