Day 1 : Arrival New Delhi International Airport.
You will be met from your flight to Delhi International Airport by Summit Safari’s representative, and he will accompany you to your hotel in New Delhi. Rest of the day free to rest after the flight
Day 2 : Half day of sightseeing of Delhi & further to Amritsar.
Today after breakfast around 10:00 A.M we will check out from the hotel and first we will take you for the sightseeing tour of Delhi to view some of the famous sights of the town with a guide. We will take a walking tour of the Old Delhi covering the Chandani Chowk, historic Red Fort, and the busy market. If interested we will arrange for a bicycle rickshaw ride in old Delhi or a Tuk Tuk ( Three wheeler ) ride in new Delhi for you. We will also visit Gandhi Smriti, also known as the Birla house where –Mahatma Gandhi had lived the last 144 days of his life from 9 September 1947 to 30 January 1948 when he was assassinated in 78th year of life at Birla House Prayer Grounds by Nathuram Godse . Thus, the house treasures many memories of his life. Lunch will be in a local restaurant in Delhi and after lunch you will be transferred to New Delhi railway station (4:30 P.M) to board the super fast Shatabdhi express train to Amritsar. Evening tea / coffee and Dinner will be served to you on this super fast express train all included in the ticket price. You will arrive Amritsar at night where you will be met by your driver and will be transfer to hotel in Amritsar.
Day 3 : Amritsar (Sight seeing around Amritsar.)
After breakfast at your hotel we will leave for sightseeing with your guide covering Golden Temple (the biggest and holiest Sikh shrine in the world – gilded with gold.),Jallianwala Bagh-the historic site where hundreds of innocent Indian men, women an children were massacred by British General Michael Dyer on April 13, 1919. A memorial and Garden have been created here as a national monument. Return back to your hotel by afternoon and after lunch we will be driving you to Indo-Pak Border to watch retreat ceremony-30 KM on the road to Lahore is India-Pakistan Border (Wagha Boarder). A visit to the border is an interesting experience especially at Sunset, when the retreat ceremony takes place with the Border Security Force on the Indian Side and the Sutlej Rangers on the Pakistan side putting up a well coordinated and spectacular display. The sound from the Bugles blown together from both sides paints past on the canvas when India and Pakistan were one, simultaneously Flags of the two nations are ceremoniously retrieved and lights are switched on marking the end of the day. Return to hotel in the evening, second night in the same hotel at Amritsar.
Day 4 : Amritsar to Dharamshala / Mcleod ganj
After breakfast drive to Dharamshala (5 hrs). Check in at your hotel in Mcleodganj. Originally home of the semi-nomadic Gaddi tribe, Mcleodganj is today the residence of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. After lunch we will visit the monastery and residence of his Holiness the Dalai Lama ji. Evening free to explore in the local market.
Day 5 : Dharamshala / Mcleodganj (local sight seeing around Dharamshala)
After breakfast at your hotel, we will leave for a sight seeing tour including, Dalai lamas monastery and house, St.John church, situated in the wilderness,& the Norbulingka Institute at a place known as Sidhbari, an institute working for the preservation of traditional Tibetan arts and crafts. At present, it houses over 300 teachers, students and workers. The arts and crafts include Thanka painting, tailoring, metal sculpture and wood crafts. There is a Losel doll museum a monastery and a popular restaurant inside the Norbulingka institute where you can have your lunch. Return back to the hotel by late afternoon and rest of the time free at leisure or if interested we could take you for a nice village and nature walk in Mcleodganj ( 2-3 hrs). Second night in the same hotel at Mcleodganj.
Day 6 : Dharamshala to Jawalamukhi — Village Home stays.
After breakfast we will leave for the Kangra valley home stay experience. From today we will spend around 3 nights with a local Indian family in Basdi village. Enroute we will visit Bankhandi village where we will meet the different local communities and see how they do coir making, bamboo basket making, local musicians etc. We will have our lunch in the village with a local family and later on we will walk around this village which will provide us a chance to meet the local people and to know about their life and traditions. You will see and experience at first hand the way in which the villagers live. By evening we will leave this village and will drive you further to Basdi village – finally where you stay in a neat and clean comfortable home stay.
Day 7 : Basdi to Pragpur and Back to village Home stay.
Today we will drive to the heritage village of Pragpur famous for its heritage mansions. We will visit the local village market and will meet and speak to the local people to know more about their lifestyle, culture and traditions. In the evening if interested we will take you to visit, the famous Hindu Temple “Jawalamukhi” (The temple of flames – as the natural fire flames are burning out of the temple walls at many places for the centuries). Later on return back to home stay in Basdi village. Second night in the home stay in the village.
Day 8 : Relaxing day / Walk around Basdi village.
After a leisurely breakfast we will walk around the Basdi village and will visit a local school, where we will meet the local children’s and the teachers. We will also attend the school prayers which are held regularly during the morning time We will take fresh seasonable fruits with us to distribute among the school children’s.( summit safari will arrange for the seasonable fruits). Today we will spend our time relaxing and walking around the village. Third night in the village home stay.
Day 9 : Basdi to Shimla.
After Breakfast we will drive you to Shimla (6-7 hrs), the former summer Capital of India during the British Raj. Now a days Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh state. Enroute we will make a couple of comfort breaks / lunch and photo breaks. Reach Shimla by evening. Check in at your hotel.
Day 10 : Sight seeing in Shimla town.
After breakfast at your hotel your guide will take you for a sight seeing tour of Shimla town. We will visit the famous monkey temple (dedicated to Lord Hanuman) on the top of Jakhoo hills, Christ Church of Shimla, the Gaiety Theatre, the Mall Road with its scandal point, and the famous Viceregal Lodge where agreements for the partition of India and Pakistan were worked out. Shimla is ideal for walks, and life revolves around the busy Mall in the centre of town. Evening free to explore of your own. Second night in the same hotel at Shimla.
Day 11 : Shimla Local - Countryside walk.
Shimla is ideal for walks. If you will be interested we will be taking you on a very pretty walk “Sipur village and nature walk ( 3-4 hrs)”. We will return back to the hotel in the evening. Third night at the same hotel in Shimla.
Day 12 : Shimla to Jaipur.
After breakfast in the morning, you will be transfer to Shimla railway station to board the UNESCO World heritage, Kalka Shimla Mountain Railways of India from Shimla (10:20 A.M.) to Solan (01: 20 P.M) .This train travels very slowly up to Kalka ( 4:20 P.M) and you see wonderful views en route as the train goes down from the mountains to the plains. Later on we will get down from the train at Solan railway station (3 hrs of train ride) and from there we will drive you to Chandigarh airport to board your flight to Jaipur. Enroute we will stop for the lunch / a cup of tea or coffee. We will reach Chandigarh airport by 04:30 P.M to board our flight from Chandigarh (06:10 P.M) to Jaipur ( 07:40 P.M). On arrival at Jaipur you will be met by your driver and we will drive you to your hotel in Jaipur.
Day 13 : Jaipur local sight seeing
Today we will take a easy day after breakfast around 10:00 A.M we will leave for a sightseeing tour of Jaipur and will visit Albert hall museum , the Palace of winds (Hawa Mahal), the Jaipur observatory ( Jantar mantar) and the local market at Jaipur for shopping , where you can buy fabrics, craft items, paintings, Jaipuri bangles, jewellery and jems etc. Later on return back to the hotel, free time in the evening to relax and to enjoy the Rajasthani folk dances at the Dinner time at your hotel. Second night in the same hotel in Jaipur
Day 14 : February 2014 Wednesday- Jaipur local.
Today early morning ( 08;00 A.M) after breakfast we will visit the Amber fort. Being a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture, this fort attracts travellers from around the globe. Beautifully caparisoned elephants go up and down carrying visitors to and from the fort. These well cladded elephants make a joyride to Amber fort and in turn makes your travel to Amber fort a fascinating experience. Later on we will visit Jaigarh Fort, overlooking the palaces and city of Amer, the world’s biggest cannon on wheels- The Jai Ban is positioned here. The fort offers the amazing view of the city below. On the way back to Jaipur city we will also visit Jal Mahal. You will have lunch in a local restaurant and evening you will be free to explore the local market in Jaipur, as it is a treasure trove for shoppers. Third night in the same hotel in Jaipur.
Day 15 : Jaipur to Agra
Today after breakfast ( 10:00 A.M) we will drive you to Agra ( 5 hrs) . Enroute we will visit the Chand Baori (a step well) situated in the village of Abhaneri. It was built by King Chanda of the Nikumbha Dynasty between 800 and 900 AD and was dedicated to Hashat Mata Goddess of Joy and Happiness upon completion. It is one of the oldest and most attractive landmarks in Rajasthan. After lunch on the way we will reach Agra by late afternoon and check in to our hotel. In the evening we will take you to visit the “Mohabbat-the-Taj” a series of play, music and dance, depicting the saga of love. It is based on The true and immortal love of Emperor Shajahan for Mumtaj Mahal- his beautiful wife. The show will take you back to the times of the lavish lifestyle of Mughal era. Later on return back to your hotel.
Day 16 : Agra Local sight seeing.
Today early morning we will take you to visit epitome of love, The Taj Mahal at Agra, which is one of the most graceful and extravagant monuments of the world. We will return back to the hotel for breakfast and after breakfast we will take you to visit the Red fort of Agra. Return back to your hotel by late afternoon and evening free at leisure or you can go to the local market for some shopping. The market in Agra offers mini Taj replicas in various sizes for the tourists. This white-marble Taj, is often used as decorative items in the homes and are considered to bring good luck for the lovers. Second Night in the same hotel in Agra.
Day 17 : Agra to Delhi
Today after breakfast we will drive you to Delhi ( 4-5 hrs). Check in to your hotel in Delhi and rest of the day free to relax your own. If interested than in the evening you may wish to go shopping in the shops and markets of Delhi or even our driver would be happy to take you out for a dinner in a local restaurant in Delhi. We will visit the Connaught place market where you notice typical Georgian buildings and market centers. This place is named after Duke of Connaught. Later on return back to your hotel in Delhi.
Day 18 : Fly back to your country.
Today you will be assisted and will be transfer to the international airport at New Delhi to board your return flight.
This is where the tour ends. However, if you wish to stay longer in Delhi or want to take extension tour, we can make arrangements for you to be transferred to the airport at a later time.
