Detail
A tour that combines the best that Cambodia has to offer whilst taking you well off the beaten track. Visit the famous temples of Angkor the ABOUTAsia way - without the crowds - then travel to the country's other two main cities: Battambang and Phnom Penh. Battambang is relatively unvisited and offers an insight into authentic Cambodian city life whilst Phnom Penh is the busy and increasingly cosmopolitan capital. The tour also gives a glimpse of rural Cambodia at Kratie, one of the last homes of the rare Irrawaddy dolphin, and Mondulkiri, in the mountainous north east. A few days of relaxation at the coastal town of Kep complete a comprehensive tour of this beautiful country.

Day 1 : Siem Reap

Day 2 : Ta Prohm
A single, magical day at the temples following our well researched crowd avoidance itinerary, including Ta Prohm of ‘Tomb Raider’ fame, Angkor Thom: Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper King, Preah Palilay, Phimeanakas, Baphuon, and the Bayon with its captivating stone faces. During your tour enjoy a wonderful tuk tuk breakfast in the secluded forest temple of Ta Nei.
Day 3 : Angkor Wat
Motor through the darkness of pre-dawn to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat as we guide you to the best photo vantage points. Explore the temple in the hours immediately after sunrise when the temple is at its quietest. This afternoon take a journey of discovery by boat, ox-cart and on foot to visit villages little changed since the days of Jayavarman VII. End the day with a cocktail at ABOUTAsia’s country villa overlooking the paddy fields with the option of adding on dinner.
Day 4 : Tonle Sap
Cruise by boat across the great Tonle Sap and up the Sangker River to Battambang, the centre of agriculture in Cambodia's fertile southwest. There is an opportunity to stop at several places along the way as we pass floating and stilted villages, including at Prek Toal bird sanctuary and island wats.
Day 5 : Battambang
In the morning explore some of the local markets and the French Colonial architecture around Battambang town, before a ride on the famous bamboo train. This afternoon visit Wat Ek Phnom with its 30m tall white Buddha and see how fish paste and rice paper are made.
Day 6 : Phnom Penh
Explore the villages, markets and rural scenery along National Road No 5 by private car on your journey to Phnom Penh. Your driver will stop at your request at some of the villages and towns producing traditional and modern Khmer crafts, including the famous marble work of Pursat, and the ceramics of Kompong Chhnang.
Day 7 : Phnom Penh
Weaving through Phnom Penh’s colourful streets, explore some of our favourite hidden gems by traditional transportation method: the cyclo. In the afternoon take in the shimmering spires of the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.
Day 8 : Killing Fields
This morning we endeavour to provide some insights into Cambodia’s recent tragic history under the Khmer Rouge with visits to the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng (S-21) Prison. Later visit Wat Phnom to learn how the city got its name and stroll aound the boutiques of street 178.
Day 9 : Phnom Penh
Depart Phnom Penh in the morning to drive to the town of Kratie, located in east-central Cambodia, in order to spot Irrawaddy Dolphins on the Mekong River. En route you will pass through scenic countryside and stop in the small town of Skoun to see (perhaps dare to try?) deep fried spiders
Day 10 : Irawaddy Dolphin
Take a boat out onto the Mekong to try your luck at spotting an Irawaddy Dolphin. Continue on to Sen Monorom in the province of Mondulkiri in the mountainous region of northern Cambodia that borders Vietnam.
Day 11 : Elie

Day 12 : Northern Highlands of Seima
Discover the beautiful area of the Northern Highlands of Seima Protected Forest with a local guide who knows the area well. There are several different treks covering different parts of the forest depending on the season and catering to differing levels of fitness. In the afternoon visit Bousra Waterfall, one of Cambodia´s most impressive falls.
Day 13 : Phnom Penh
Visit a local market this morning before your drive back to Phnom Penh where the rest of the day will be at leisure for you to further explore the capital.
Day 14 : Kep
Private transfer by road to the delightfully sleepy coastal town of Kep, a fashionable seaside resort in the 1960s. Explore some of the examples of colonial French and modern Khmer architecture, which are wonderful to visit and photograph in their various states of disrepair.
