This six-day trek takes you into an area adorned with a multitude of pristine, crystal clear lakes. As you walk amidst the shimmering lakes you’ll be treated to stunning views of the entire Himalayan mountain range and some of the world’s highest peaks including Mt. Everest, Jomolhari, Masang Gang, Jichu Drake, Gangche Ta and many more.
During the trek, an entire day will be dedicated to visiting some of the more picturesque lakes, fishing, and resting. The trail also takes you through several Bhutanese villages so you can get a good idea of traditional Bhutanese village life as you make your way back from the lakes.
While this is a somewhat strenuous trek, it is well worth the effort because of the tranquility and beauty of the natural landscape that you will enjoy during the journey.Flight into Bhutan via Drukair (can be arranged with us)

Day 1 : Paro International Airport - Paro
Upon arrival at Paro International airport, a representative from our company will be there to receive you as you exit the Paro international airport. Upon warm greetings with the offering of the scarf, our team will take you to one of the finest restaurants in Paro for a Lunch served in a finest Bhutanese dishes.
After lunch
- Visit Ta Dzong (built in 1656 and renovated in 1968), an ancient watchtower which now houses the National Museum.
Followed by a visit to the Rinpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”) built in 1646 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal below the museum. The dzong is the center of civil and religious authority in this valley.
And a walk around the Paro town for you to explore and get a glimpse of traditional Bhutanese Urban (Overnight at Paro)
Day 2 : Paro Halt - Taktsang Monastery or Tiger’s Nest Hike (acclimatization)
After breakfast,
- Drive to the trailhead to commence a climb through beautiful pine forest. Taktshang Monastery (Tigers nest) has to be the monastery with the most outstanding setting in Bhutan. Set on a vertical cliff face at 3100m above sea level, it defies all engineering logic. For the energetic, hike 2 hours up to get a more dramatic view of the monastery. (The hike demands a certain level of fitness and a pony ride to the monastery can be arranged at additional cost). The primary Lhakhang or main temple was built around Guru Rimpoche meditation cave in 1684 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgay. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan in 747 AD, flew here on the back of a flying tiger from Kurtoe Singye Dzong in the east.
After lunch,
- Visit Drugyel Dzong (a ruined fortress), 16km away from Paro. Although it is now under reconstruction, this Dzong has great historical importance for the people of Bhutan. It was a place where the Bhutanese finally defeated the Tibetan invasion. On a clear day, one can view sacred Mt. Jomolhari (mountain of Goddess).
- Followed by a Traditional Hot stone bath and dinner at one of the popular lodge in the middle of the farmland. (Overnight at Paro)
Day 3 : Paro – Thimphu
After breakfast,
- Dive to Thimphu, the capital city of the country. Enroute, visit Tachog Lhakhang, one of the popular tourist hotspot in Bhutan and followed by Simtokha Dzong the oldest fortresses in Bhutan. It was built in 1629 AD. It houses the largest monastic school in the country.
- And Buddha Dordenma Statue, this massive statue of Buddha Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley.
After lunch,
- Visit Centennial Farmer's market, the biggest farmers market in Bhutan and stroll around it. The farmers from all the districts in the country come to this place to sell their Agriculture product.
- Followed by a visit to Folk Heritage Museum, a living museum of rural life which provides visitors and tourists with fascinating insights into the Bhutanese material culture and way of life and Dechen Phodrang, The initial place of Trashichoe dzong.
In the evening,
- Visit Trashichoe Dzong a fortress of the glorious religion. (Fortress of the Glorious Religion), built in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel and reconstructed in 1961 by the Late King, His Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wang chuck. It houses His Majesty's secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the king, the central monk body, and some ministries. Visit the chapel until the unique flag lowering ceremonies at the Dzong. Our team will then drop you at your hotel and give you an orientation on the next day trek. (Overnight at Thimphu)
Day 4 : Thimphu – Geynekha – Gur, 7km, 5hrs, 550 M Ascents, 210 M Descents, 3290m
After Breakfast,
- Drive to Geynekha to begin the 6-day trek. The trek starts at beautiful Geynekha village through terraced paddy fields and coniferous forests with a short descent to the river.
After crossing the river you will be climbing until you reach a huge rock platform from where you have a picturesque view of the valley below. After another two hours, you will reach Gur, yak pastures located just below the main trail. (Overnight at campsite)
Day 5 : Gur – Labatama, 12km, 5hrs, 1220m Ascent, 110 M Descents, 4300m
The second-day trail takes you across the high ridges from where you can truly appreciate the rugged beauty of your surroundings and the mountain vegetation. The path winds through refreshing meadows adorned with Primula Irish and wildflowers.
The first mountain pass you cross is marked by a huge cairn and gives a spectacular view of Mount Kanchenjunga in Sikkim, and a number of the Bhutanese Himalayan peaks. As you descend the pass you will be able to see the entirety of the Dagala mountain range include meadows and yak herder camps.
Once you have descended into the Labatama valley you begin climbing gradually through the valley, passing several yak herder huts before you arrive at Utsho Tsho (Lake). (Overnight campsite)
Day 6 : Labatama Halt
The day will be dedicated to relaxing and recuperating at Labatama. On this day, you will take an excursion to any of the three nearby lakes such as Reli Tsho, Hen Tsho, and Jama Tsho.
Hikers are encouraged to take the opportunity to engage in some trout fishing as the location is ideal. If you are interested, we will arrange permits. (Overnight campsite)
Day 7 : Labatama – Panka, 8km, 6-7hrs, 260 M Ascents, 520 M Descents, 4000m
The trail climbs along the western side of the Dala Tsho up to a saddle at 4520m. From here onwards you will have a spectacular view of the majestic Himalayan peaks throughout the descent. The mountain peaks visible include Mt. Everest in Nepal, Mt. Jichu Drake, Mt. Tsherim Gang, Mt. Kangbum, Mt. Masang Gang, Mt. Tsende Gang and Mt. Gangche Ta.
If you want an even better view, you can climb a peak close to the saddle at an altitude of 4720m. From the saddle, the path descends, passing some yak herder huts to Dochha Chhu. You follow the river for a while, but stay higher up on the slope to reach Panka with ascents and descents along the way. (Overnight campsite)
Day 8 : Panka – Talakha, 8km, 5-6hrs, 180m Ascent, 110m Descent, 3080m
This day entails the crossing of several passes but none of them require a major climb. You should keep your eyes open for different varieties of blue poppy (June-July) and mountain birds while in this area. After crossing the last pass, Tale La (4180m) you will start a long descent to Talakha Goempa.
You will camp right beside the monastery and wake up to the early morning prayers of the monks. From here you will be treated to a great view of Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu. (Overnight camp)
Day 9 : Talakha – Chamgang, 6km, 3hrs, 440m Descent – Thimphu
From the monastery, it’s a short walk down to the feeder road which will lead you to the village of Chamgang. From here, you will be met for a drive through to Thimphu.
Relax in your hotel and in the evening you can do some last minute shopping and leisure. (Overnight hotel in Thimphu)
Day 10 : Thimphu- Paro International Airport
In the morning drive to Paro International Airport where your guide will bid you farewell as you embark on your onward journey.
