The tour continues to Jama Masjid, one of Asia’s largest mosques and which is viewed from the outside. People stream in and out of the mosque continuously and the presence of a nearby bazaar means that the area is rarely quiet.

  • Day 3 : Delhi - Agra

Agra is 210 kms. away from Delhi, which is the city of Taj Mahal - a poem in white marble built in the 16th century by the emperor Shahjahan as a monument of love. Agra was once the capital of the Mughals and the relics of the glory are scattered all over the city from the Taj Mahal to the massive Agra Fort, Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb & Akbar’s deserted majestic capital Fatehpur Sikri. Agra is India’s best known tourist destination.

On arrival you will check-in to the luxurious Amar Vilas Hotel. The hotel lies just 600 metres from one of the greatest wonders of the world. The Oberoi Amar Vilas opened in January 2001 and is breathtakingly luxurious hotel. There is only one way to truly experience the Taj Mahal. The challenge for Bombay-based architect Prabhat Patki was to create a haven that would reflect the exotic grandeur of the monuments around them. The aim was to provide guests with every modern service in luxury and comfort, while adhering to strict planning laws. He succeeded. Straight out of an Indian fairytale, The Oberoi Amar Vilas - Sanskrit for ‘Eternal Haven’ - is set among lush and serene Mughal-inspired pools and terraced gardens. Ancient and traditional Persian and Moorish influences combine with the very best in modern Indian interior design.

This fusion is exhibited to spectacular effect in the cobalt blue and gold domed entrance hall, whose windows frame a fabulous vista of the Taj Mahal. Sixty-four fountains filigreed stone bridges and pillars greet guests as they cross the forecourt of the ceremonial entrance pavilion of what appears to be a Mughal palace. All rooms and suites feature a separate walk-in closet with electronic safe, colour satellite TV, DVD/CD player. Minibar and a facility to make tea and coffee. Beautiful marble bathrooms feature both a bathtub and a separate shower cubicle with deluxe toiletries. Fifty-Seven superior deluxe rooms have their own private open-air terraces. Four Executive Suites have a separate living room and bedroom. The two luxury suites feature in addition, a separate living/dining room with butler’s pantry and private open-air terrace. The bathroom overlooks the Taj Mahal.

  • Day 4 : Agra

You will visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal is everything that has been said about it and more. Taking 22 years and 20,000 men to build, the white marble was quarried 200 miles away and was transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife Mumtaz, in mid 17th century, the Taj Mahal is truly one of the wonders of the world. Though the Taj appears to be amazingly perfect from almost any angle, it is the close-up marble inlay work, which is really astounding. You will have ample time to view and be mesmerized by this outstanding piece of architecture.

Late afternoon you will proceed to visit the Agra Fort – the seat and the stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive generations. Visit its Hall of Public Audience and its Royal Pavilions.

  • Day 5 : Agra - Ranthambore

In the morning after breakfast you will be driven to Ranthambore . Enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted capital of the former Mughal Emperor Akbar. In many ways it is one of the most impressive and romantic legacies of the Mughal dynasty. These forts & palaces are almost 400 years old but has still maintained the charm as same as 400 years earlier.

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most renowned national park in Northern India. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, which is about 130 km from Jaipur. Being considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, today the Ranthambore National Park terrain is major wildlife tourist attraction spot that has pulled the attention of many wildlife photographers and lovers in this destination.

Ranthambore National park is spread over an area of 1,334 sq km along with its nearby sanctuaries like - the Mansingh Sanctuary and the Kaila Devi Sanctuary. The park is majorly famous for its tigers and is one of the best locations in India to see the majestic predators in its natural habitat. The tigers can be easily spotted even during the day time busy at their ordinary quest- hunting and taking proper care of their young ones.
Ranthambore is also counted as the famous heritage site because of the pictorial ruins that dot the wildlife park. Certainly, a visit to Ranthambore National Park is a treat for every wildlife and nature lover. The time spend on watching tigers roaming around, verdant greenery, a gamut of other species of chirpy birds and animals is priceless and worth enough to be explored at least once in a life.
Nestling in the natural beauty of the wilds, The Oberoi Vanyavilas is India’s leading luxury jungle resort on the edge of the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. The perfect base from which to explore the territory of the majestic tiger. While it is warm during the day, mornings and evenings are pleasant. The resort setting is picture-perfect with a dramatic watercourse and sun-kissed private decks. The lwith finely embroidered canopies, luxurious bathrooms and private walled gardens are in perfect contrast to the ruggedness of the jungle. The Forest department responsible for conservation of wildlife has placed a restriction on the number of visitors to the park on a daily basis. To avoid disappointment, we recommend that you book your jungle drive in advance. As part of commitment to responsible tourism practices, The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Ranthambhore is a member of the Travel Operators for Tigers campaign (TOFT).
TOFT is a global travel industry initiative which aims to advocate, catalyse and support a more responsible and sustainable approach to wildlife tourism in India’s Tiger Reserves, in cooperation with the charity Global Tiger Patrol. Its objective is to support specific conservation and local community projects which benefit the local villagers and the wildlife within the parks you visit as part of your stay with us. Our operational practices have been reviewed through a process called Pug Audit and the resort has been recognized as following an "Outstanding Practice", the highest pug ranking environmentally. This allows visitors to rest assured that their visit to The Oberoi Vanyavilas in Ranthambhore is enjoyed at a resort that makes sustainable development, environmental and socio-cultural issues their prime priority, and endeavour to be both environmentally innovative and socially responsible. The ranking illustrates that we have made a positive impact on the environment, on support for our local community, and on the experiences of our clients. The PUG audit team recognizes that we are continuously working to better our operations and enhance our sustainability, with our management being knowledgeable about key issues. Finally we work hard to maintain our status as exemplary industry leaders, so that others can learn from us.

  • Day 6 : Ranthambore

The great virgin jungles of Central India were an awesome gift of nature which have been vandalized and largely destroyed over the years. What survives is but a small portion of its northwestern extremity. This region, with its relics, is a historically important reminder of the misty past. The fort of Ranthambore was the center of a Hindu Kingdom which was invested by Allaudin Khilji's army in 1301 A.D. He later defeated its king, Raja Hamir, and the Rajput, women are reputed to have committed the terrible ritual of sali in the fort. However, the area soon slipped back into the hands of the Rajputs and again became a powerful kingdom. The Mughal Emperor, Akbar, invested it in 1569, the year after he took the fort at Chittor, and conquered it in 40 days of warfare. The Kachchwaha rulers of the principality of Amer (later known as the Jaipur state) received the fort from the Mughals and it remained with them till 1949 when Jaipur state was merged into Rajasthan. The forests around the fort, then' known by the name of the nearby township of Sawai Madhopur, were the private hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur. Among the most famous of their hunting parties was one organized for Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1961. It was thanks to the desire to preserve game for sport that the forest and its inhabitants first received protection and thus survived long enough to be rescued by Project Tiger.
In 1972, it was estimated that there were 1827 tigers in India, of which Rajasthan had 74 and the number of tigers estimated in the Ranthambore Sanctuary's 60 sq miles (155 sq km) was 14. That year saw the launching of Project Tiger and this sanctuary, named after the fort, became one of the eight sanctuaries and national parks of the new project. Over the years, the sanctuary has become a national park with a core area of 158 sq miles (410 sq km) with a tiger population of 40 according to the 1986 census. In 1984, an additional area of 40 sq miles (104 sq km) of adjoining forest was designated the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary, after the late Maharaja of Jaipur. Friendly Tigers: Ranthambore is famous for its tigers and justly so. Over the last decade, as a result of strict preservation, tigers have become more and more active during the day, thus giving the lie to the earlier belief that they are nocturnal animals. More than in any other park or sanctuary in India, tigers are now encountered here in broad daylight. They have lost all fear of humans and are quite unperturbed by their presence. Besides hunting in broad daylight as well as at night, some other unique aspects of tiger behavior have been observed and photographed. Once, for instance, a magnificent large male hunted openly from the thickets on the edge of the lakes and ran down its sam bar prey in the water. A tigress too indulged in similar behavior. There have been instances when a tiger and a crocodile from the lake have confronted each other. On one memorable occasion a tiger battled with a crocodile over a sambar carcass and finally took possession of it in broad daylight, after a long fight. It was generally believed that tigers arc solilary creatur'eS and only the mal her's tllk care of their cubs so long as these are unable to care for themselves, and tigresses with cubs were seen only rarely. Here too their behavior seems to have undergone a change. In 1986, two tiger families, one with two cubs and another with three, have been extremely trusting of human presence in jeeps and have been observed for long stretches of time in jungle clearings in broad daylight, even when the cubs were but a few weeks old. The family with three cubs includes a large male which seems to have chosen to live with the cubs without being aggressive. In fact, this male is also seen with another tigress in the same Bakaula nala region from time to time. Because of such tiger activities, Ranthambore is probably the best park in which to photograph them. In recent times it has become a center of attraction for wildlife photographers from all over the world. Sighting a tiger can never be a sure shot, but here one comes as close to it as is possible. Other Predators: This park also has a large population of panthers which are the second largest predators of this forest. The prey species of tigers and panthers overlap, and because of possible conflicts between them, the latter are found more often on the periphery of the park. Kachida valley accounts for the highest number of sightings of these cats. They do not appear to be as fearlessly diurnal as tigers have become and therefore their sightings are not as frequent. Another interesting feature of the park is the visibility of marsh crocodiles in and around the lakes. Over the years, their number has increased and these reptiles, eight to 10 feet (2Y2-three meters) in length, are not uncommon. They are easily seen in the water or basking on the shores of the lakes. Often they are seen crossing from one lake to another. Interestingly, they eat dead sam bar on land and try to drag the carcass into the water, even during daylight hours. Other predators in Ranthambore are hyenas, jackals and jungle cats. Caracal too have been recorded. The last sighting of wild dogs was way back in 1954; it is not known why they have disappeared from these forests completely. Ranthambore has sloth bears which one may encounter while driving through the park. Lakarda and Anantpura are the areas where they are seen most often. Sambar are seen everywhere and in large herds around the lakes. They are in hard horn and at their best during the rutting period in the winter months, though their antlers tend to be smaller than those of their, counterparts in Central India. Sam bar are known to wallow in and like water, but here they can be observed in water for hours, eating and swimming in the lakes. Actually, one would expect such behavior from barasingha rather than sam bar.
Later return to Hotel for breakfast. Rest of the day at leisure.
