A three-day long extravaganza of dances, music, handicraft fairs and interesting competitions- including really unusual ones like a 'Mr Desert' pageant, a 'turban-tying' contest and a 'best moustache' contest- vyasbookingoffice. It's a fantastic showcase of all things Rajasthani, and is justifiably popular with tourists, both Indian and foreign. Besides the food, the music and the cultural performances, there are camel rides, processions, camel polo, and even a camel tug-of-war. Day 1 :
The colourful festival starts with a morning procession which displays the life and culture of the desert, from Sonar Fort and proceeds towards the Shahid Poonam Singh Stadium. Many exciting competitions are held during this vibrant event. The festival reflects the traditional performing arts of Rajasthan and showcases several Rajasthan folk songs and dance. Ghoomer, Gangaur, Gair Dhap, Moria, Chari and Tehratal The Gair and the Fire dances are the special attractions of the festival. Especially the Gair and Fire dancers leave the onlookers captivated. Competitions like Mr. Desert, the longest moustache and turban tying competitions are held.
Day 2 :
Colourfully decorated camels which are indispensable part of any event in the state also form part of the festival. Camel races and camel polo competitions are also conducted. Camel decorating, camel dances, camel acrobatics and camel fur cutting competitions are also held. Tug of war and Panihari Matka race are some of the events where even visitors to the fair can participate. The festival culminates with the Rajasthani folk artists performing against the splendid backdrop of the famous Sam sand dunes on the full moon night.
Day 3 :
The fair also has snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats who all exhibit their traditional skills to the tourists. Colourful craft bazaars that display exquisitely embroidered attires, hand-woven shawls, rugs, carvings on wood and stone, camel decorations, embroidered leather bags, ethnic silver jewellery and terracotta are set up at the fair. A sound and light spectacle is also organized. Dazzling fireworks display held on the grand finale light up the night sky and is a feast to the eyes. The festival offers an opportunity to endure the beauty and true essence of the art and culture of Rajasthan.
