This trek visits Dodital (lake) - indeed an angler's paradise. Dodital Lake is a fresh water lake and a tempting trout pool renowned for trout and Mahseer fishing. There is a scenic path along the shores of the lake which takes you to where the feeder stream meets the lake. You can easily spot the Shining red spotted Himalayan Golden Trout in the crystal clear waters. The fresh water lakes like Dodital, surrounded by the Himalayan peaks, are excellent for the catch regardless of the season. On the way to Dodital, are the Alpine forests of oak, rhododendron, bhojpatra, (the famous "paper tree"), juniper, and the stately deodar. The trek continues up to the mountain top meadows - the famous Dharva top bugyals (Alpine meadows) with their spectacular views of the snow capped high Himalayas, Vistas of dramatic peaks - Bandar Punchh, Black peak etc.. Hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Chances to see ibex, snow fox, mountain crow & eagles, Seasonal contacts with Gujars (generally muslim tribal mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking & their herds of buffalo. Visits to local picturesque mountain villages. End the trek in the fascinating spiritual & philosophical center of India - colorful Swagashram at Rishkesh.
Day 1 : New Delhi - Dehradun (240 kms/6 hrs).
In the morning drive to Dehradun. You can take overnight train or Volvo bus from Delhi it arrives to Dehradun early in the morning and where our taxi picks you up for Uttarkashi.
Day 2 : Dehradun - Uttarkashi (160 kms/5 hrs)
Drive to Uttarkashi, located on the Bhagirathi River in the foothills of the Himalayas. Upon arrival at Uttarkashi transfer check into the hotel
UTTARKASHI AREA Vishwanath Temple: One of the major Shiva worship centers for all India, this ancient and renowned temple is an interesting and important pilgrimage and touristic monument. Uttarkashi Town: Situated on a new lake, this clean and nature-surrounded little city features a line of ashrams along the banks of the Bhagirathi River, an early branch of the sacred Ganga. Nehru Institute of Mountaineering: World famous institution of instruction for the mountaineer.
Day 3 : Uttarkashi - Bhevra (27 kms/5 hrs)
Drive 20 kms to the trail head. Scenic drive along the roaring Bhagirati River, one of the source rivers of the sacred Ganges, through terraced fields, Deodar forests, and villages to the tranquil, park like Assi Ganga Stream valley to Sangamchatti village, then moderate 5 k uphill trek to Agora village through terraced fields, then gentle 2 k downhill trek through forests to Bhevra campsite in terraced fields by a babbling brook, surrounded by a forest, beneath the mountains. See families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above.
Day 4 : Bhevra - Manjhi (9 kms/6 hrs)
Uphill 4k then 5k gentle k up and downhill trek through forests of oak, rhododendrons (bloom end April - beginning may), pine, and stately deodar trees. Manjhi is summer huts for villagers where there they spent their summer with cattle's camp side are surrounded by forest and spectacular views of Bundarpunch peak.
Day 5 : Manjhi - Dodi Tal (6 kms/4 hrs)
Gentle 6 k up and downhill trek through forests of oak, rhododendrons (bloom end april - beginning may), pine, and stately deodar trees. Frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Views down into the wooded and now steep sided and wild Assi Ganga valley. Camp at Dodi Tal, sacred as well as scenic lake famous throughout northen India for its beauty, its religious significance and its sacred golden trout. There is a temple on the shore presided over by a local pundit. Camp on the lake shore with views up into the mountain forests and high passes to be visited on the morrow.
Day 6 : Dodi Tal - Day Trek round trip Dharva Top (14 kms/8 hrs)
Steep 7 k uphill trek over Dharva Pass, then gentle 1 k downhill trek. Follow a stream bordering juniper groves and then up, up into the high grasslands with fine views of Bandar Punchh mountain's snowy summit, Black Peak , etc. from the pass, also down into the Hanuman Ganga valley & Bandar Punchh valley. Meet with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, and Gujars. (generally muslim local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking contacts with & their herds of buffalo. Camp in a bugyal at Dharva top to meet Gujars (generally handsome local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking & their herds of buffalo (June - September).
Day 7 : Dodi Tal - Bhevra (15 kms/7 hrs)
Trek back via the same route as day 4
Day 8 : Bhevra - Uttarkashi (27 kms/5hrs)
Trek back to trailhead and return drive to Uttarkashi. Stay in hotel.
Day 9 : Uttarkashi - Rishiskesh (185 kms/6 hrs)
Return drive to Rishikesh. Stay in hotel. (Possible to reach Haridwar to explore this popular and beautiful shrine town as opposed to Rishikesh.
One hour further) Rishikesh: Rishikesh is the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttaranchal. It's also starting point on the journey to the sacred sources of the Ganga and the Yamuna Rivers. According to legend, Prince Bhagirath performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to Sage Kapila's curse. The penance was answered and the river Ganga trickled forth from Lord Shiva's locks and its bountiful water revived the sons of King Sagara. In the tradition of Bhagirath, devout Hindus stand in the sacred waters here, praying for the salvation of their ancestors.
Day 10 : Rishikesh -Delhi (225 kms/6 hrs)
Return drive to Delhi
